50 Influential Scream Queens: Part 2

27 October 2009 10:57 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Before I launch into the conclusion of my 50 Influential Scream Queens (read part 1 here), please let me remind you that this list is based upon my personal taste, and my personal taste alone. I didn't poll 100 Fango readers, the Fango staff or any other form of 'industry professionals'. It's all opinion, so if you feel I've wronged a certain actress by excluding them from the list, don't leap to brand the entire Fango crew 'vile'.  I probably just don't personally find their work to be that influential. Either that or I'm just ignorant to their accomplishments!

25. Mia Farrow: Mia's genre work may be a bit limited, but that doesn't change the fact that Rosemary's Baby will forever be regarded as one of the creepiest films in history. Farrow's portrayal of Rosemary Woodhouse is harrowing to say the least, and will always remain (in my mind) one of the best performances the genre has seen. »

Fright Exclusive Interview: Tony Todd Talks Splatter

Tony Todd Talks Splatter

Conducted by Phil Fasso and Mike Cucinotta on October 26, 2009

So we're sitting here in The Frightquarters waiting for Tony Todd to report in. We interviewing him via telephone so no need to repeat his name five times. We tried it, it didn't work. (Ok, ok... we only got to 4 and turned the lights on.)

A funny thing pops up on our telescreen: An old doc on 'Bride of Frankestein', hosted by Joe Dante, starring Clive Barker and featuring Bill Condon, all of whom have worked with Todd. Barker and Condon having been involved in 'Candyman' and 'Candyman: Farewell To The Flesh', and Dante having recently directed him in 'Splatter', a new 3 episode web series, produced by Roger Corman and debuting exclusively for free on Netflix on October 29th.

Bill Condon Takes On ‘The C Word’

28 September 2009 7:00 AM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

Delicate subject matter generally requires an equally delicate approach, and The C Word is no different. Showtime’s pilot starring Laura Linney (John Adams) about a suburban wife and mother recently diagnosed with cancer will attempt to mix the seriousness of the disease with a lighter spin, and they’ve found their juggler in director Bill Condon (Dreamgirls).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Condon will reunite with Linney for the first time since they worked together on Kinsey, where Linney received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2004. While the writer, director and Oscar-winner is no stranger to sensitive subjects, as his writing and direction on 1998’s Gods and Monsters would suggest, he’s also been involved in other genres throughout his career.

Condon has managed to tackle horror in 1995’s Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh and musicals in 2002’s Chicago, and was even part of the writing »

DiCaprio heads for The Twilight Zone

19 July 2009 11:48 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Leonardo DiCaprio heads to Shutter Island under the guidance of Martin Scorsese this fall, and soon he'll be heading to another dimension - one not only of sight and sound, but of mind.

Variety reports that Warner Bros. is gearing up for it's second big-screen trip to The Twilight Zone.

The studio that produced the 1983 Twilight Zone (pictured on the cover of Fangoria #30) film that featured segments by Joe Dante (Gremlins), John Landis (An American Werewolf In London), George Miller (Mad Max), and Stephen Spielberg (Jaws), will be bringing another vision of the Rod Serling-created series into theaters from a screenplay by Rand Ravich.

Ravich first hit the genre radar after penning the screenplay to Candyman: Farewell To The Flesh. He's since written The Astronaut's Wife, produced Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind, and created the NBC series Life.

No director has been attached to the project just yet, but »
