How long is a piece of string? Exactly. And when it comes to waiting for Quentin Tarantino to make a film, you can ask the same question…kind of. First Showing recently caught up with the American maestro and asked him for an update on all things Bride related, and he announced: “There’s no script, there are just ideas and notes…we’re getting there, we’re about one movie away.”
Tarantino resurrected his career after the ill-received Grindhouse with the mighty Inglourious Basterds. It is perhaps his most thoroughly enjoyable film since Pulp Fiction. It’s his biggest box office strike, too.
Kill Bill was his love letter to all things kung fu-related. If the first part was a lean, mean fighting machine, the second part was a rather bloated affair with a dull climax. Does the world need to hear from The Bride again after she settled her score? »

Screenwriter Roger Avary, who shared a 1995 Oscar-win for Best Screenplay with Quentin Tarantino for Pulp Fiction, will have to serve the remaining nine months of a one-year sentence in jail because of his time spent on Twitter. Avary, 44, was found guilty of driving while intoxicated which resulted in the death of one of his passengers, Andreas Zini, 34, of Modena, Italy. The accident occured in January 2008 when Avary was speeding down a Pch highway while returning to his home from a local bar.
In August 2009 Avary pled guilty to a charge of gross vehicular manslaughter and other related charges. The prosecution asked that Avary serve jail time of nearly seven years but the judge ruled the writer spend one year in a work furlough program, allowing him the opportunity to go to a job at a production company during working hours and work on screenplays for two films, Wolfenstein and Silent Hill 2. That's what Avary did, »

"Pulp Fiction" screenwriter Roger Avary won't be tweeting again any time soon, a Ventura County sheriff's official said Monday.
Avary probably will serve the rest of his yearlong sentence for a fatal drunken driving accident in the county jail instead of a lower-security work furlough program, said Sheriff's Department spokesman Ross Bonfiglio.
He's expected to be released next July. »

Recently, I took some time to finally give Guy Ritchie another chance. The man had made two really awesome movies, then mucked about a bit and made some real stinkers. Having heard good things about RocknRolla, I set settled in to give it a watch. Ultimately the movie was okay, maybe I'd call it good. It had some fun bits and some bad bits. Closer to his old work most definitely, but it did have one annoying trait - the painting. The painting that moves gangsters to tears and transfers hands like a hot commodity. Of course, we never get to see it. And that, of course, is bullshit. I'm most definitely annoyed by things like this. This wasn't the first time and it won't be the last time, but come on. It's not cute or clever or coy. It's annoying. It's lazy. Perhaps the most famous example would be the briefcase in Pulp Fiction. What's »

Pulp Fiction screenwriter Roger Avary has been sent to a secure jail after reportedly posting a series of messages about prison life on the internet.
The Oscar winner was sentenced to a year behind bars and five years probation for causing the death of a man in a car crash last year.
He has been on a "furlough" program since he was sentenced, which allows him to work outside of prison - but has now been moved to a tougher jail amid security fears after he apparently posted a series of messages on his Twitter.com page.
Ventura County sheriff's spokesperson Captain Ross Bonfiglio insists the move was due to security issues and was not related to the online messages. »

John Travolta struggled to control his jealousy when wife Kelly Preston filmed love scenes with Tom Cruise and Kevin Costner - because it was "hard to watch" his partner in bed with Hollywood's sexiest stars.
The Pulp Fiction star, who has been married to Preston for 18 years, hates seeing his wife get intimate on-screen.
But he breathed a sigh of relief when she partnered up with funnyman Robin Williams for their new movie Old Dogs - because he's such a close pal of the actor.
He says, "I have been jealous of many of her co-stars. I didn't like her making love to Tom Cruise. I didn't like her making love to Kevin Costner in Love Of The Game. It was hard to watch. All I can say is thank God for Robin. I adore Robin so it was Ok with him." »

Is Eyes Wide Shut really one of the worst movies of all time?By Lee Pfeiffer
MSNBC has listed reader's choices for the biggest film turkeys of all time - and the list itself is the biggest turkey of all. Sure, there are the undeniable bombs that one would expect to find in any sane list of worst movies: Showgirls, Ishtar and Battlefield Earth. However, these readers must have been into the cooking sherry a bit too early to include Pulp Fiction (too much profanity), The Blair Witch Project (the camera was too shaky) and Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut, which is regarded, at worst, as a noble failure but certainly not an outright turkey. Even the innocuous Mr. Bean is not spared. The readers must be of the same school of film criticism as the friend who once accompanied me to a screening of Lawrence of Arabia. At the conclusion of David Lean's masterpiece, »

His career in tatters since being sent to incarcerated, the producer of "Pulp Fiction" paints an icy portrait of life in jail via Twitter. In 1995, Quentin Tarantino and Roger Avary won the Oscar for best screenplay for "Pulp Fiction", a few months after having taken home the Golden Palm from Cannes. 14 years later, while Tarantino is busy being outraged at the criticism lobbed at "Inglourious Basterds" around the world, Avary languishes in Ventura County Jail, sentenced to one year for causing the death of a passenger in a car accident while driving drunk. The Los Angeles Times, which was first to scoop the press, has not been able to confirm 100% that the handle @avary really belongs to the filmmaker, or if someone else is sending tweets in his name. No matter who's doing the actually writing, it shows the world how scary Avary's prison life is, with stories of drugs, »

In 140-character takes, Roger Avary has built up a vivid portrait of life in Ventura county jail where he is being held
When Roger Avary, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Pulp Fiction, was last month sentenced to a year behind bars for his role in a fatal car crash, it seemed that a promising writing career had come to an abrupt end.
But a string of posts on social networking site Twitter has revealed that he is apparently still chronicling the underbelly of American culture.
In a series of 140-character takes, Avary has built up a vivid portrait of life in Ventura county jail where he is currently being held. "Sickness spreads throughout the facility like brush fires," he writes in his latest tweet from November 22, "and #34 [his identification number in prison] is helpless to avoid the outbreak and inevitable infection."
Though there has been no official confirmation that the Twitter feed is Avary's, there are various clues to its authenticity, »

John Travolta has been honoured by his adopted Florida hometown - the community named a street after his daughter Ella Bleu.
The Pulp Fiction star and his family paid tribute to the people of Ocala city for their support after the January death of his 16-year-old son Jett, during an appearance at the Friday premiere of their movie Old Dogs.
And Mayor Randy Ewers echoed his appreciation for the area's most famous family, thanking Travolta and his actress wife Kelly Preston for their fundraising efforts and presenting nine-year-old Ella with a street sign from the newly dubbed Ella Bleu Way.
Travolta held back tears as he told the crowd of locals, "Kelly, Ella and I want to thank all of you for supporting us over the last year. It's meant the world to us. We know that we have a community. We know that we have friends. And we know that we are loved. We appreciate it. Jett appreciates it. We love you, Ocala."
The Travolta family appearance at the premiere and a gala later in the evening on Friday is estimated to have raised more than $37,500 (£23,430) for charity.
It's one of the actor's rare public appearances with his family since they lost Jett, who died after suffering a seizure during a family holiday in the Bahamas. »
