Sweet but not sappy

Natalie Cole shines in this film. Marla Gibbs is absolutely lovable and fun. I highly recommend this little film. It is even appropriate for the entire family. Well written and acted.

Little more than standard TV material
millennia-215 April 2001
This film, seemingly neglected by Universal, is watchable, but for the most part it's little more. It doesn't have the impact that a comparable theatrical drama does, and it was obviously done on a limited budget, but at the least the heart was in the right place. In the leads, both Natalie Cole and Brian Bonsall deliver good performances, especially Cole, making her film debut here. However, there's little other material of interest here, it's a good pick if it's on TV and there's nothing else to do, but it's not worth going out of your way for.

Cake of another time
Vincentiu4 March 2010
Warm, charming and delicate. Same ingredients of family's drama, with the science to give charisma for his character of Nathalie Cole. A beautiful option for Chistmas Eve, lesson about kindness, moral values and love, sacrifices and its price, about past and its shadows, with feelings who makes people to be parts of a family. Nothing new. But the taste after its end is important. For be more yourself after snacks of sentimental game, for remind the child behind the words of present, for a smile or nostalgic wing of a lost angel. Cake of another time - this is my definition for this nice movie. A film like others. But every memory has the art to open secrets doors. Like it.

Natalie Cole gives a Wonderful Performance.
jleotaud1 April 2001
In the movie "Lily in Winter" Natalie Cole and Brian Bonsall are the stars in the movie, they become good friends.

Lily Covington (played by Natalie) who is nanny to a white little boy name Michael Towler (Bonsall) who start to like Lily very much. So Lily and Michael run away to go to Alabama in 1957, but don't weary they will come back. Plus also starring (James Picken,Jr.) who plays "Chick" a mean, sick and stupid man who will do anything to get what he wants. Then there's (Marla Gibbs) who plays "Mazie,Lily's Momma" who is very nice. And (W. Earl Brown) who plays "Sherrif Boyd" who needs help.

This movie is a "must see" so that you will feel happy to find a nice person right next to you, just like Natalie and Brian.
