The Basterds Guide to Brad Pitt

16 December 2009 10:15 AM, PST | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

It's a glorious week for Brad Pitt and the Inglorious Basterds, with several major awards nominations and the film's debut on DVD. Now, Pitt's fellow cast members are sounding off on what their leading man was really like off-screen. The consensus: Brad's anything but "basterdly." Director Quentin Tarantino says Pitt is all dude. "The thing that really just comes to my mind when you say something like that is - he is a guy," Tarantino told People at the launch party for the Basterds DVD at Los Angeles's New Beverly Theater. "He's a cool guy. You can have cool and »

Their Best Role: Brad Pitt and 'Fight Club'

12 November 2009 9:02 AM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Welcome to a new series here on Cinematical where we select an actor or actress and the role we think is their all time best.

Brad Pitt has taken on a myriad of roles over the years. He's fly fished, hunted down sadistic killers, played a romantic devil, dallied in thievery, suffered through pain in his Achilles, and even showed up as the notorious Jesse James. And while he may have earned Oscar nominations for his turn as a mental patient in 12 Monkeys and a backward-aging man in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, his best role lives in cult fandom as the corporation-loathing anarchist Tyler Durden in Fight Club.

I know. It's strange of me to pick this role out of the list -- especially in light of his time in 12 Monkeys. Fight Club was the film Edward Norton got recognized for -- not so much Brad Pitt. But »

50 Influential Scream Queens: Part 1

27 October 2009 5:54 AM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Given man's unwavering fascination with woman, it's no surprise that the female star acts as the anchor to a dominant portion of horror pictures. I mean really, who wants to see a bare chested man tearin ass through the woods screaming at the top of his lungs while a bladed assailant nips at his heels? I don't - I know that much, although I'm certain there are plenty of men who would disagree (and that's okay with me, to each his own!). The simple fact remains however, women bring a unique appeal and certain sensual atmosphere to film that no man ever could. And it's not all about gratuitous T&A.

There's a comforting quality in the hands of the heroine; a fascinating maternal strength that, as a man I cannot genuinely relate to. I can however admire, and in many cases it's nearly impossible to not admire the lone »

Kristen Stewart In “An American Girl”

5 October 2009 1:17 PM, PDT | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Kristen Stewart will star in James Woods‘ upcoming movie “An American Girl.”

Woods has revealed that he wants to direct and produce the movie, which he has described as a “slam-dunk Oscar” opportunity for the Twilight star.

“It’s “Coming Home,” “Best Years of our Lives,” it’s part of that trilogy. It’s a phenomenal story,” he told.

Woods will direct from the script written by Tim Metcalfe (”Kalifornia,” “The Haunting in Connecticut”) and Sean McCarthy.

Woods gave ComingSoon.net the basic plot synopsis:

“It’s about a young woman who is really destructive. It’s that magical time right after you’re out of high school. She was the top swimmer and dive champion in school. Now it’s a year later and she lives in a little town in Indiana and the place is dying, she’s working in a grocery store and drinking and drugging too »

Review: Whiteout

11 September 2009 12:00 AM, PDT | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

There comes a moment in Dominic Sena's Whiteout where our heroine Marshal Carrie Stetko (played by the usually British Kate Beckinsale) is about to face something horrific but it doesn’t come from a faceless killer’s snow axe or from the possibility of freezing to death in the Antarctic winter. The scene takes place in a doctor’s office and the horror of the situation comes from Stetko facing the aftermath of being exposed to sub-zero weather. I won’t spoil it further but let me add just this final note: what should have been a scene that left the audience squirming in silent horror turned into an unintentional funny moment where the people in my theatre (myself included) openly laughed at the absurdity of a poorly chosen line of dialogue. It’s these kinds of stupid moments that reduce Whiteout to being a sub-par thriller, one that »

'We all felt like action heroes!' said actress Juliette Lewis of her role in the movie.

Ellen Page, Kristen Wiig, Drew Barrymore and Juliette Lewis would wake up in the morning, do yoga and then strength-train together for two hours before going roller skating until nightfall. It was a bruise-inducing journey of female camaraderie, a two-month-long, check-your-ego-at-the-door boot camp for Barrymore's directorial debut, "Whip It." And as Lewis told MTV News as part of our weeklong fall movie preview, it was a chance for these actresses to become their own versions of superwomen.

"We all felt like action heroes!" the actress/singer said.

The film follows Page as a small-town Texas teen fed up with the beauty-pageant circuit who finds her way into an all-female league of roller-derby divas. Wiig and Barrymore play her tough-talking teammates, »

Second Trailer for Kate Beckinsale's 'Whiteout'

23 July 2009 11:56 AM, PDT | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

There's a new trailer for Whiteout, and even though it's put together pretty well, just like the teaser that premiered maybe two months ago, I can't shake the feeling that it will be awful. That's a terrible way to go into it, but don't blame me: Snowbound movies are never easy to execute, no matter how good the script is, and it's been delayed for over a year. Those are hard hurdles to leap.

There is good news, though. The graphic novel won some awards, and if you're any kind of red-blooded male, how could you not be interested in a movie with Kate Beckinsale, if only on a voyeuristic level? So let's say those two things almost balance the fact that the studio didn't have any confidence in it for this long. The nail in the coffin just might be director Dominic Sena, whose best film is probably Kalifornia, »

Summer Horror: Top 10 Road Trip Frights

22 July 2009 4:20 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Get your motor running and head out on some abandoned roads where your car will more than likely break down in front of an inbred ax emurderer’s shack.

As summer is in full swing and the roads heat up, our hearts yearn for adventure on the open road.  Here are our top ten films that might just make your forget about any road trip you had planned.

1.    The Hitcher (1986- original) – Labeled as gore fest featuring a brutal death every ten minutes, The Hitcher firmly established Rutger Hauer as one creepy mofo.  And what can be better than one Jennifer Jason Leigh?  Two Jennifer Jason Leighs!

2.    Joy Ride (2001) – The golden rule of any road trip: don’t piss off a truck driver.  This film did make me crave a candy cane for some reason.

3.    Jeepers Creepers 2 (2003) – A basketball team gets trapped on a bus with their cheerleaders in the middle of nowhere. »

‘Inglourious Basterds’ Co-Star Eli Roth Wants To Know: How Does Brad Pitt Go To The Bathroom?

6 July 2009 9:00 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

If you had a few hours alone with the most famous actor in the world, what would you ask him? That was the thought process driving director/actor Eli Roth when he appeared alongside Brad Pitt in the upcoming Quentin Tarantino flick, “Inglourious Basterds.” Naturally, Roth asked something we all might want to know: how does the dude go to the bathroom?

“I was wondering: ‘You’re at a baseball game and you have to take a p-ss,” Roth said with a laugh, remembering his query on the set of “Inglourious Basterds.” “What do you do?”’

Credit Mr. Angelina Jolie with an open-book answer, as Pitt told Roth that it happens to him all the time. “It’s a real problem,” Roth recalled Pitt’s response. “[He told me] ‘you go into a bathroom at Dodger Stadium, and everyone is looking at you. It’s kind of weird… you have to wait until the Dodgers are up, »

Antarctica Thriller:  Whiteout Trailer

17 June 2009 5:51 AM, PDT | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

So this one has been sitting patiently on the shelf for some time now, and Kate Beckinsale is not the strongest in straight-up genre pictures.  Yet, a peppy modern trailer with a halfway decent retro-styled voice over and nary a vampire in sight (yet the casting of Alex “Moonlight” O’Loughlin combined with the ‘threat’ of the sun setting for 6 months may suggest otherwise) promise a tidy little thriller along the lines of Nimrod Antal‘s underrated Vacancy (you know where Beckinsale got to act and stuff, instead of simply pose in her pretty make-up).  There is a bit of gore in the trailer suggesting that punches may not be pulled.  Finally, the director is Dominic Sena, so naturally here is hoping more for Kalifornia than Swordfish.

“A U.S. marshal, the only one assigned to Antarctica, must investigate a murder on the frozen continent within three days before the arctic winter begins. »

Brad Pitt Keeps Fresh with Baby Wipes, Reveals Costar

While filming Quentin Tarantino's movie about World War II, Inglourious Basterds, superdad Brad Pitt offered up some unconventional hygiene tips for his sometimes smelly costars. "He shared that when you're sweating and don't have time to take a shower, you just take a baby wipe and rub it under your armpits," Pitt's costar and pal Eli Roth told People at Saturday's Spike TV Guys Choice 2009 in Los Angeles, set to air on the cable network June 21 at 10 p.m. "After a scene, Brad had to get next to me for a close-up shot, and he said, 'Damn, you're ripe, »
