Patrick Swayze passes away at the age of 57

15 September 2009 1:06 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Patrick Swayze, the man who immortalised Johnny Castle (Dirty Dancing), Sam Wheat (Ghost) and my favourite, Dalton (Road House), has passed away after a near two year battle with pancreatic cancer. The actor, survived by wife Lisa, was diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer in January 2008. His last role was the lead in an A&E TV series, The Beast, which premiered on January 15, 2009. Due to a prolonged decline in health, Swayze was unable to promote the series, and on June 15, 2009, Entertainment Tonight reported that the show had been canceled.

Swayze appeared in early 1980's flicks The Outsiders and Youngblood, but it was the low-budget 1987 film Dirty Dancing that made his name. The film, which was originally intended to play for just one weekend on its initial cinema release before going straight-to-video, went on to make well over $300 million since it first debuted. It has spawned a sequel, a musical »

Following a long and very public battle with cancer, Patrick Swayze — a film and television star and dance icon — died Monday (September 14). He was 57 years old.

Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer early last year, the news shocked fans who had long followed the career of Swayze, a muscular heartthrob most famous for playing a virile dance instructor in "Dirty Dancing" and a no-nonsense tough guy in films like "Road House" and "Point Break." As the tabloid headlines of his imminent demise intensified, he launched a new crime show called "The Beast," even though the noticeably thinner star admitted that shooting was difficult on him physically.

Born in Houston, Swayze's mother was a dance instructor, and he followed in her footsteps while pursuing classical ballet. He also poured his evolving, formidable »

[DVD Review] Best of "Snoop Dogg's Father Hood"

16 June 2009 10:00 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Reality TV has hit the hood. Father Hood. It’s amazing that I haven’t gotten used to the cockamamie ideas for new reality shows that hit the likes of MTV or Bravo. After years of new shows popping up on the entertainment radar, it’s a wonder any shows surprise us. Either you want to be a model, you want to be the best animal groomer in all the land or you’re a celebrity with a semi-interesting family.

Who is Calvin Broudus? Calvin is a loving husband. Calvin is a devoted father. But, Calvin on his own probably doesn’t make for a very interest television show. Now throw in a little hip and a little hop. What do you get? Reality TV. Calvin “Snoop Dogg” Broudus may not have been the subject of a reality show ten years ago…but the Snoop of today is a daddy three times over. »
