Renny Harlin’s career has come full circle, from low-budget horror and action films like Born American and Prison through blockbusters such as Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger before reverting back to budget-minded films like The Bricklayer and this film, Refuge. This time around, he’s bringing the horrors of war back home as a soldier’s encounter with the unexplained threatens the lives of everyone around him.
Sergeant Rick Pedroni is serving somewhere in Afghanistan when his unit takes a group of Taliban prisoner. Questioned about a nearby cave, they say there’s no more of them in there, in fact, none of them would go in there. Rick volunteers to check it out.

Director Renny Harlin's career is fascinating. The Finnish filmmaker grew up loving Hollywood movies and later managed to insert himself into that very industry, making a slew of successful '80s and '90s movies from "The Long Kiss Goodnight" to "A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master." More recently, however, his output has been a little more uneven.
Last year, Harlin's Pierce Brosnan-starring film "The Misfits" made a surprise comeback on Netflix. I say a "surprise" because "The Misfits" did not fare well at the box office when it was first released in 2021, and despite Harlin's efforts to rekindle the magic of his '90s actioners, simply functioned, according to critic Chris Bumbray, as "ad for Abu Dhabi tourism." Thankfully, the man who gave us such classics as "Die Hard 2" and "Cliffhanger" has not simply been reduced to churning out streaming movies that desperately...

The 1990s represented a golden epoch for action cinema. This was the time which saw VHS and its digitized successor DVD introduce a whole new generation of fans to the magic of stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. And those titans from the ‘80s still claimed big wins, too, at the box office and home media via the likes of Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Demolition Man, and Cliffhanger.
It was also the decade that saw audiences turn out in droves to theaters and rental stores to catch a glimpse of Steven Seagal’s flying fists in movies like Under Siege or Jean-Claude Van Damme and his trademark splits in Timecop; Jackie Chan finally got the larger American fanbase he so richly deserved thanks to the Rush Hour movies while Bruce Willis gave us Die Hard With A Vengeance, the best of all the Die Hard sequels, before pivoting...

Sylvester Stallone is certainly one of the biggest names in the history of Hollywood, as he was truly the king when it came to action and drama in the 70s and 80s. After all, his roles in classics such as Rocky, Rambo, and more, solidified his legacy as an all-time great.

Goodbye, The Lazarus Project. Unless a mysterious sci-fi organisation steps in to reset time to before Sky chose to cancel the mind-bending time travel drama, that’s our lot. After airing two seasons, they won’t be making a third.

It had previously been rumoured that if season three were to go ahead, creator Joe Barton would be stepping back to a producer role and welcoming in new writers, who would have to do without some of the major cast members including Tom Burke. “Arthur the King” suitably plays like an emotional endurance challenge. Director Simon Cellan Jones and screenwriter Michael Brandt, adapting Mikael Lindnord’s book “Arthur: The Dog Who Crossed the Jungle to Find a Home,” take us through the ups and downs of adventure racing. They put our stamina, tear-ducts and psychological well-being to the test as we watch a team of underdog athletes attempt to cross the finish line in record time after befriending an ailing, scruffy street mutt. Our palms sweat, our hearts palpitate, and our spirits brace themselves for a windfall of feelings in the final act. This true-life tale about perseverance, compassion and second chances cuts right to the quick. While it doesn’t stray from a predictable path, the journey is rarely dull, making our travels and these characters’ travails feel worthy of the big screen.

Sylvester Stallone is one of the most underrated gems when it comes to screenwriting. Although the actor has been nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and is known for always tweaking his scripts, the actor has remained under-appreciated for this talent of his. Lionsgate has shared the first trailer for Renny Harlin’s prequel slasher. Take a look at The Strangers: Chapter 1 trailer here.
2024 has been a little barren for horror films, but fear not, my friends. Things are looking up.
Renny Harlin’s The Strangers: Chapter 1 is heading our way in May and if it captures even a smidge of the atmosphere of the 2008 original, we’re in good company.

What do you do when they come for you? Beloved horror franchise “The Strangers” is getting a revamp, courtesy of prequel “The Strangers: Chapter 1” starring “Riverdale” alum Madelaine Petsch. Two more sequels are due later this year, all from “Die Hard 2” and “Cliffhanger” director Renny Harlin.
In this first film, Petsch stars as a young woman who is trying to start a new life with her fiancé. Yet, during a road trip stop in a remote vacation rental in the woods, the couple become the prey of a mysterious gang of masked strangers who attack without warning or reason. Froy Gutierrez, Gabriel Basso, and Ema Horvath co-star.
Sure, it may sound like a run-of-the-mill slasher, but “The Strangers” franchise has a haunting allure, thanks to its creation by filmmaker Bryan Bertino. The director has a “story by” credit for “Chapter 1,” which is helmed by Harlin and written by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland.

‘The Strangers: Chapter 1’ Trailer Looks Like a Direct Remake of the 2008 Home Invasion Horror Movie
The first installment in a brand new reboot trilogy from Lionsgate and director Renny Harlin, The Strangers: Chapter 1 will be available in theaters nationwide on May 17, 2024.
The Strangers: Chapter 1 is said to be something of a remake of the original 2008 movie, while its sequels – Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 – will blaze a new path from there.
Our hope is that the two subsequent movies will allow Renny Harlin to get crazy and inject a little more of his personal filmmaking style into the proceedings, because The Strangers: Chapter 1 indeed does look to be a pretty straight up remake of Bryan Bertino’s 2008 home invasion classic. This first trailer essentially goes through all the familiar beats, ending with a new/lesser version of the most iconic line from Bertino’s movie. “Because you were home” has been replaced with “Because you’re here,” which doesn’t quite have the same punch to it.

Remember "The Strangers"? They're back — in trilogy form. Released in 2008, "The Strangers" is a wildly effective horror pic in which a couple finds themselves targeted at random by a trio of masked killers. Written and directed by Bryan Bertino, the film made great use of sound design and slowly building dread to create a memorable scary movie that went on to become a sleeper hit at the box office. In 2018, we got "The Strangers: Prey At Night," a sequel that followed a similar formula but changed up the atmosphere a bit (it felt like more of a traditional slasher movie than the first film).
Now, we're getting a whole new trilogy, helmed by none other than Renny Harlin, the filmmaker behind "Cliffhanger" and "Deep Blue Sea." The plan is to release all three films in one year, and things are kicking off with "The Strangers: Chapter 1." Don't call it a remake,...

Lock your doors, because Lionsgate has released the trailer for the upcoming horror film “The Strangers: Chapter 1,” set to release on May 17.
The third film in “The Strangers” franchise, which originated with Bryan Bertino’s 2008 film, stars Madelaine Petsch as a woman moving to the Pacific Northwest to start anew with her fiancé (Froy Gutierrez). Their plans go askew when they stay at an AirBnB in Oregon, where they are subject to the torment of three masked strangers that show up at their door.
Other cast members include Rachel Shenton, Gabriel Basso, Ema Horvath, Richard Brake and Ella Bruccoleri.
“Chapter One” is the first film in a new trilogy directed by Renny Harlin, who has previously helmed “Die Hard 2,” “Cliffhanger” and “The Long Kiss Goodnight,” among other projects.
The original “Strangers” starred Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman as the targets of masked killers who break into their home.

Sylvester Stallone is not only one of the best actors in Hollywood but also one of the best action heroes in the industry. That is not to say that he has not tried other genres, but the action genre seems to fit him the best. His beefed-up body along with the signature snarling look and slurred speech, due to the accidental severing of a nerve during his birth, contribute to his success as an action hero.
Sylvester Stallone is gracing his fans’ screens with the second season of the Paramount Plus reality show- The Family Stallone. That being said, he is also getting ready to take over the big screen with the anticipated sequel of 1993’s Cliffhanger. During an interview, he revealed the reason for agreeing to do the reboot to be an impressive script.

Sylvester Stallone is undoubtedly one of the biggest names in Hollywood. He established himself as an action star in the entertainment industry with movie franchises like Rocky and Rambo. He is one of the only two actors in the history of cinema to have starred in a box office number-one movie for six consecutive decades. However, the price he has paid for this success and stardom might not be something every actor is willing to pay.
After years of struggling to make a breakthrough as an actor, when Sylvester Stallone got the chance to prove his worth in Rocky (1976), there was no looking back. The actor now has an enviable fan following and a reputation only a few have in the industry. However, behind the glitz and glamour of this reputation lie dark secrets.

Sylvester Stallone is undoubtedly one of the biggest names in the history of Hollywood, as he made a name for himself as the king of action movies in the 70s and 80s. That’s not all he is known for as Sly is also known as one of the most generous and giving actors in the business. With that said, Sylvester Stallone was accused of forcing a 16-year-old into a threesome in the past.

One month ago, heading into the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, the most anticipated title for buyers was not necessarily the action-adventure anthology with Pedro Pascal (Freaky Tales) or the Kristen Stewart-fronted post-apocalyptic love story (Love Me). It was Dídi, a coming-of-age film about a 13-year-old in the Bay Area from a first-time feature director with no notable U.S. stars. It quickly landed a deal with Focus Features, while films with shinier stars and higher concepts are still in negotiations for deals.
The U.S. has long been known as the great arbiter of “bigger is better.” But being risk-averse, given current economic conditions and industry trends back home (Disney, Paramount Global, Amazon MGM, and others are currently undergoing layoffs), may, says one U.S. buyer, “no longer mean getting a massive star or big director — it means costing less.” Yet, internationally, the mandate seems to be business as usual,...

Megastar Sylvester Stallone has been a prominent action figure in the entertainment industry. Stallone gained initial stardom by playing the role of a boxer Rocky Balboa in the Rocky franchise and films like Rambo. These films became a cultural phenomenon in the 70s and have reached a cult classic status since then.
In his decades-long career, Stallone has done predominantly action films and established himself as an action god of Hollywood. It is slightly surprising that after being in the genre for the entirety of his career, Stallone has now chosen to change paths and delve into murder mystery. Here’s what we know of his new endeavor.

In the 30+ years since Cliffhanger arrived, a lot has changed, including star Sylvester Stallone now being in his 70s and the action genre transforming significantly. But Cliffhanger director Renny Harlin has another worry entirely for the upcoming sequel: technology, expressing concern that it may rely too much on CGI.
Speaking with ComingSoon.net, Harlin said that while he isn’t attached to Cliffhanger 2, he is still holding out hope for the production’s success, further saying he isn’t confident that the studio will maintain the “real” quality of the 1993 original. “Now, of course, it’s a long time later, so I have no idea what kind of a story they are planning to tell or what Sly’s role in it is. But I wish them the best of luck. I hope they don’t try to replace what we did with a lot of CG. Because I...

Director Renny Harlin on why the original plans for Cliffhanger 2 never happened, as the sequel finally moves forward.
The original Cliffanger was directed by Renny Harlin and released in 1993. Starring Sylvester Stallone, the film is fondly remembered as a classic of 90s action cinema, not least for its memorable set pieces which, being of early 90s vintage, were largely practical in execution.
Although Stallone is of course returning for the long-belated sequel, Harlin isn’t involved in the follow-up, which will be helmed by Plane director Jean-Francois Richet. Cliffhanger sparked a career revival for Stallone, but Harlin worries that a key facet of the film’s production won’t stay true to that early 90s style of production.
“I hope they don’t try to replace what we did with a lot of CG. Because I think the audience will be able to tell that we did everything for real,...

Directed and co-written by Sylvester Stallone, The Expendables was a hit when it was released in 2010, drawing in viewers who wanted to see an old school action movie that allowed Stallone to share the screen with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis for the first time. Two years later, The Expendables 2 was even more successful, and many fans feel that film is where the concept really reached its potential. Mistakes were made on 2014’s The Expendables 3 that could have been easily fixed with a fourth film, which should have come along after a couple years. Instead, it took nine years for Expend4bles to happen… and when it did, with Scott Waugh at the helm, Stallone not only didn’t have a writing credit, but he was barely even in the movie. Expend4bles was a box office failure. But franchise cast member Dolph Lundgren thinks we might still see The Expendables 5 someday.

Nina Dobrev has had a great career, being the lead on The Vampire Diaries for an amazing six seasons while also appearing in movies like Let’s Be Cops, the Flatliners remake and more. Yet, she’s never gotten to test her mettle as an action heroine, with her regulated to mostly non-fighting roles in films like XXX: The Return of Xander Cage. That all changes with Renny Harlin’s The Bricklayer, in which she plays a CIA analyst sent on a mission to Greece, where she’s supposed to keep an eye on the agency’s most notorious hitman, Aaron Eckhart’s Steve Vail, as he chases down a rogue agent (Clifton Collins Jr) who’s been killing journalists. While initially at odds, it doesn’t take long for the two to team up, giving Dobrev a solid chance to show off her action chops.

Nearly six months after its release, and perfectly timed to its powerful awards momentum, Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” (Universal), now renting for $5.99 ahead of its unannounced Peacock debut, repeats as #1 at iTunes and Google Play this week.
Both platforms rank by transactions. “Trolls Band Together,” also Universal and still renting at $19.99, is #1 at Vudu, where revenue determines the top 10. They list “Oppenheimer” #3, tops among lower-priced entries, reinforcing its draw. “Trolls” is second at iTunes, #5 at Google Play.
“Society of the Snow,” a stealth Oscar contender from Spain director J.A. Bayona, is #2 at Netflix — besting its high-profile originals “Maestro” and “May December,” both of which ranked for only a few days and at lower positions.
“Snow,” which is Spain’s Oscar submission, is following the path of “All Quiet on the Western Front” last year as a non-English language success on the platform. It’s just behind “The Equalizer 3” for the second week,...

The episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? covering Eye See You was Written by Mike Holtz, Narrated by Travis Hopson, Edited by Juan Jimenez, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
If you’re like me and so many other nineties kids, you may remember Eye See You (watch it Here) as that Sylvester Stallone film you saw late in his career sitting on the shelves at your local Blockbuster or Hollywood Video featuring Sly pointing a gun in a snowy landscape looking just as surprised as you to be there with such little fanfare. Stallone belongs on the “Guaranteed to have in-stock or you get a free rental” Holy shit package wall of the video store or at the very least in an interesting role among an all-star cast like he’d been in with Cop Land a few years previous.

Brad Silberling's 1998 romance "City of Angels," a remake of Wim Wenders' indispensable 1987 film "Wings of Desire," stars Nicolas Cage as an immortal angel named Seth who gently breezes around Los Angeles, unseen by the people who live there. He appears to people only when they die, accompanying them to the afterworld. Observing humans as if they are an ineffable alien species, Seth becomes particularly enamored of an ambitious and compassionate young doctor named Maggie Rice. Seth finds that he might be experiencing love for the first time, and becomes visible to Dr. Rice, courting her and asking her deep questions about what it means to be human. Seth eventually chooses to transform into a human, sacrificing his immortality in order to be with his beloved.
What both Wenders and Silberling communicate with aplomb is how inhuman angels are. They live among humans but only interact when the humans die.
