There are some moments when we all want to get some comfort in our lives and seek nostalgia. That is when the TV shows and movies from our childhood come into play. But while some of them have aged well and are still just as funny and heartwarming, others will only bring disappointment.
This list may seem perfect for any 80's and 90's kid, but if you take a closer look, you'll realize that none of these shows are actually good by today's standards.
Baywatch (1989-2001)
To say that Baywatch was bad would not even be a controversial opinion or a hot take. Despite its longevity, the only thing the show could rely on was the good looks of its cast, which is why it was so overly sexualized. The creators must have hoped to hide the lousy production and all the plot holes behind a bunch of conveniently attractive people.

Steve Lawrence, a king among easy-listening crooners who rocketed to fame in the ’50s and ’60s as half of the duo Steve and Eydie, died Thursday at age 88. Lawrence died at home in Los Angeles, and the cause of death was complications from Alzheimer’s disease, according to a spokesperson for the family, Susan DuBow.
Lawrence’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis had finally put an end to his touring career in 2019, after a run in the public eye that spanned six and a half decades.
Lawrence was preceded in death in 2013 by his wife, Eydie Gormé, with whom he enjoyed nearly unparalleled success as a performing couple during their heyday as touring artists and TV stars in the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s. The couple had continued to tour together through 2009.

Lawrence, who partnered in a popular act with his wife of 55 years, the late Eydie Gormé, died of complications from Alzheimer’s disease, a publicidst announced.
With his boyish good looks, silky voice and breezy personality, Lawrence broke into show business when he won a talent competition on Arthur Godfrey’s CBS show and signed with King Records as a teenager. The singer chose to stay old school and resist the allure of rock ‘n’ roll.

“Oppenheimer” dominated the 30th Screen Actors Guild Awards on Saturday, winning the prize for best cast, as well as statues for Cillian Murphy’s lead performance and Robert Downey Jr.’s supporting work. The drama about J. Robert Oppenheimer and the development of the atomic bomb was an unexpected box office hit last summer and is considered a front-runner for next month’s Academy Awards.

With the Oscars just around the corner, you could have easily mistaken the 26th Costume Designers Guild Awards for a late-season “Barbie” party. But the pops of pink, magenta, and fuchsia that met honorees and guests throughout NeueueHouse in Hollywood on February 21 weren’t nodding to the billion-dollar Best Picture bid; they were sending a message to the AMPTP.

An app where mid-level celebrities can make beer money by carrying out the instructions of a total stranger via a selfie video… what could possibly go wrong? Elijah Wood, Dean Norris of “Breaking Bad,” Kate Flannery from “The Office,” Priscilla Presley (“The Naked Gun”), and “Scrubs” curmudgeon John McGinley found out the answer the hard way this summer.
Beginning in July, “Russia-aligned influence actors have tricked celebrities into providing video messages that were then used in pro-Russian propaganda,” the Microsoft Threat Analysis Center found and shared in a Thursday blog post. The videos were then “manipulated to falsely paint Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as a drug addict.”
Ok, so that could go wrong.
American actors and other celebrities, including musician Shavo Odadjian, were apparently asked to provide messages of support on Cameo (almost certainly; the popular website will not confirm the specific activity) to someone named “Vladimir.” The unwitting stars...

“I’m an unlikely labor leader,” Fran Drescher acknowledges on a late November evening.
Before this summer, Drescher long had been synonymous in the public imagination with her most iconic role, Fran Fine, in the popular ’90s CBS sitcom The Nanny, which she tailored to her comedic strengths, including her thick Queens accent. The sassy childcare worker to a posh New York family became inextricably linked with her persona, even after Drescher launched other sitcoms, started a cancer nonprofit and, eventually, was elected as the president of Hollywood’s largest union, SAG-AFTRA, in 2021.
But her public profile took a dramatic turn after SAG-AFTRA called a strike in July, joining the Writers Guild of America in the first double work stoppage involving the two unions in more than 60 years. In the spotlight during the months that followed, Drescher carved out a new lane with her distinctive advocacy for her 160,000 members: at once fierce and combative (yes,...

Some innovators try to devise a gadget that changes the world. Others hope to solve a global social ill. Sarah Sherman is eager to bring fake vomit on “Saturday Night Live” into the modern age.
The comic has gained notice on the long-running NBC late-night series for bizarre humor that blends gross-out jokes with a taste for the absurd. She’s been working with colleagues for months on new technology that would make the act of pretending to throw up onstage a lot easier — and more comfortable. For years, “SNL” cast members have relied on a tube tucked alongside their arm and usually inside a jacket sleeve that spews out liquid approximating vomit or blood. At just the right moment, the actor holds an arm close to the mouth, and the “vomit rig” does the rest. Dan Aykroyd used such a get-up in 1978 when playing Julia Child, who cut her hand open,...

“The endgame is to allow things to drag on until union members start losing their apartments and losing their houses,” a studio executive told Deadline. One insider called it “a cruel but necessary evil.”
We’re all glad the strikes are finally over, but I feel misunderstood. I mean, sure, I pull down tons of cash to stonewall and bulldoze artists on behalf of multinational media conglomerates who want to protect their many billions of dollars in beautiful, beautiful profits. And I get that a certain amount of public condemnation and mockery come with the gig (yes, I’ve seen your mean tweets and memes and yes, I hope all of you die). But before I crawl back into my office in the bowels of a Sherman Oaks shopping mall, before little ol’ Carol is gone and forgotten for the next three years (or at least until next summer when...

SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher and National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland on Friday laid out how the actors’ 118-day strike was ended and their thoughts on the deal with the AMPTP.
The duo, in a press conference at its Wilshire Blvd HQ, detailed the stresses and “dealbreaker” moment during the negotiations and highlighted how the reversal from the studios on AI and streaming revenue came to be.
“We are extremely proud of what we’ve advocated for and won in this new contract and I personally am extremely proud of our President and our negotiating committee and our members who have stood strong to create this change,” said Crabtree-Ireland.

With the SAG-AFTRA strike in the rearview, Fran Drescher will soon have more time on her hands to consider career moves outside of union negotiations. But she knows for sure one job she doesn’t want.
“Meryl Streep said to me, ‘This is great, now go run for president,’” the president of Hollywood’s largest union recounts with a laugh over the phone Thursday afternoon, just one day after the union’s negotiating committee — led by Drescher — announced that they had reached a tentative three-year contract deal with Hollywood studios after spending 118 days on strike. “I don’t want that job. Oh boy.”
Instead, Drescher says, she is eager to find “something where I can leverage this for the greater good.” This is referring to the new name recognition and standing that the woman once synonymous with The Nanny has amassed after leading SAG-AFTRA’s 160,000 members through its stand...

The SAG-AFTRA strike is finally over after 118 days.
Fran Drescher, president of the union, joined Extra‘s Billy Bush on Thursday (November 9) to talk about the strike and Hollywood getting back to work.

“It was moving all the way through… We had reached a threshold where we crossed the billion-dollar mark and ended at a [$1,011,000,000], which is quite historic in terms of the size of the contract in this industry,” she said.
The writers and directors got a 5% minimum increase, the actors got a 7% minimum increase, and the background people got an 11% minimum increase.
“When it all adds up, it’s quite significant… You know, it wasn’t what we wanted as the performers with the background people got, we didn’t get that, but we were very happy that our lowest-earning members got the most for their minimum salary,” she explained.
“New inroads were carved everywhere.

It’s not quite Where’s Waldo?, but Fran Drescher wants to know when the studio CEOs are coming back to the table to finalize a new SAG-AFTRA three-year contract to end the guild’s nearly four-month-long strike.
“Tgif! Let’s hope the amptp ceo’s resurface with a seal the deal counter!” said the SAG-AFTRA President this morning online.
The actors guild and the studios have been back in renewed negotiations since October 24. However, SAG-AFTRA says it hasn’t heard back from the AMPTP on its comprehensive counter proposal since October 28, nor have the studios responded to the guild’s latest AI proposal during the past two days.

As SAG-AFTRA president, Fran Drescher is a hero of the ongoing actors’ strike. But 30 years ago, she was embarking on what would become her signature role: playing Fran Fine on the CBS sitcom The Nanny. The six-season series, created by Drescher and then-husband Peter Marc Jacobson, debuted on November 3, 1993, as the fictional Fran left her middle-class Queens existence for a new job with an upper-class Manhattan family. Cultural clashes, countless laughs, and two consecutive Emmy nominations for Drescher ensued. Three decades later, fans are still enjoying The Nanny on Max, where it started streaming in 2021, and on YouTube, where the official channel has racked up more than 170 million views. Of those YouTube clips, here are the most-watched… 10. “Fran Sees Maxwell in the Shower!”: 1.2 million views The Fran Drescher character gets an eyeful of her boss in Season 1’s “The Family Plumbing” when she barges in on Maxwell (Charles Shaughnessy) in the bathroom.

Most people who wear a costume for Halloween want to dress up as one of their favorite characters from a movie or TV show. So, this year, you expect to see a lot of Barbies, maybe some "I Think You Should Leave" driving crooners, and of course a whole host of Miles Raymonds, as people fondly remember Paul Giamatti's character from "Sideways" in their eager anticipation of the release of "The Holdovers."
There's a problem with wanting to do that, though, if you are a member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA), as the guidelines of the ongoing strike stipulate that you cannot promote any struck material. This includes dressing up as a film or TV character on Halloween, a decision that has ruffled the feathers of a number of people. Personally, I agree with the rule. Already widely mocked on social media, SAG-AFTRA’s infamous Halloween costume guidance received more drubbing on Saturday Night Live.
In a trick-or-treating skit, SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher, played by SNL‘s Sarah Sherman, explained the controversial rules that ban members from wearing costumes from studio movies and live-action TV series during the strike and presented safe alternatives for kids.
Calling kids dressed like Barbie, Spider-Man and Black Panther “a bunch of adorable scabs,” Sherman as Drescher introduced other costumes: “Harry Potter as described only in the books,” “minor characters from the Bible who have not appeared in any movie or TV adaptations” and daytime and reality personalities.
Late-night also is exempt from the SAG-AFTRA strike which is why SNL is on during the work stoppage.
Drescher (Sherman) also explained how “with small adjustments,” any costumes can be made strike-friendly.

“Saturday Night Live” breakout Sarah Sherman portrayed SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher in a Halloween-themed sketch that took aim at studios, the guild’s controversial Halloween costume recommendations and “The Nanny” star herself.
The sketch portrayed children running around in IP-branded Halloween costumes getting halted by Drescher, who was there to “teach you how to do Halloween during a strike.” That includes SAG-AFTRA asking members to not wear costumes based on movie or TV characters, or else “we would be promoting the companies we’re striking against, which makes all of these children a bunch of adorable scabs.”
Drescher then recommended safe costumes like “Harry Potter, as described only in the book” and “minor characters from the Bible.”
Pointedly, after Drescher says “That’s why we’ve been picketing for 100 days” and another character responds, “That must be exhausting,” she deadpans back, “Hey, did you just call me exhausting? Well, a lot of people have.

When it comes to life’s most difficult negotiations, sometimes you need a squishy friend by your side.
That’s SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher’s policy for the contentious ongoing contract talks her union is embroiled in with Hollywood’s major film and TV studios. “The Nanny” star has come to the table for weeks armed with a heart-shaped stuffed animal that serves as either an emotional support tool or a bargaining tactic, depending on who you ask.
Stories about Drescher’s doll have been a hot topic around Hollywood for weeks. Hollywood is mourning Suzanne Somers, star of sitcoms “Three’s Company” and “Step by Step,” who died Sunday after a long battle with breast cancer. The actor would have celebrated her 77th birthday on Monday, Oct. 16.
Somers was known for her roles as bubbly “dumb blonde” Chrissy Snow in “Three’s Company” and single mom Carol Foster Lambert in “Step by Step.” Somers left “Three’s Company” in 1980 when her request that she be paid the same as her male co-star, John Ritter, was denied. After the end of “Step by Step” in 1998, Somers transitioned to a career in health and beauty, becoming the national spokeswoman for exercise device the ThighMaster. Over time, she built a fitness empire from TV infomercials and an expansion into e-commerce. She also made an appearance in 2015 on Season 20 of “Dancing with the Stars.”
Fran Drescher, Kathy Griffin and Barry Manilow are among those who have paid tribute to Somers.

Duncan Crabtree-Ireland expected to be back at SAG-AFTRA headquarters Thursday, continuing to negotiate a new contract with the heads of four major studios.
But on Wednesday evening, he got a call from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers informing him that the talks were off.

The AMPTP announced Wednesday night that the talks have been suspended, saying the differences between the sides is “too great” and that “conversations are no longer moving us in a productive direction.”
It was yet another setback in a year that has been full of them, and it dashed the optimism that followed the end of the 148-day writers strike. It is not clear how long it will take for talks to resume, but insiders are privately predicting that...

SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers will meet for further negotiations in the former’s ongoing strike, the parties announced on Wednesday.

The studios and streamers and the guild concluded its second session of talks at SAG-AFTRA’s Miracle Mile headquarters in Los Angeles, with little detail coming about the framework for a potential deal — or, more importantly, what might be holding it up.

As the SAG-AFTRA strike clocked its 62nd day, and the WGA’s 135th, the former held a massive solidarity march today from Netflix HQ on Van Ness Blvd to the Melrose gates of Paramount to juice guilds’ spirits with the entertainment industry work stoppage running past Labor Day.
Or as California Federation of Labor Executive Secretary Treasurer Lorena Gonzalez told those guild members who showed up today, “This is an endless union summer.”
“We are not giving up because it’s September, we will not give up in October, we will not give up when the temperature goes down,” said Gonzalez to the crowd of around 4,000.
Attendees included SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher, National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, Secretary-Treasurer Joely Fisher, Los Angeles Local President Jodi Long, Los Angeles Local First Vice President Sheryl Lee Ralph, as well as such stars as Marvel thespian Clark Gregg, Frances Fisher,...

SAG-AFTRA members re-elected Fran Drescher as their president with a landslide victory Friday. It’s a firm nod of confidence in “The Nanny” star as the actors union’s strike hit 56 days.
Drescher, 65, won a second term with 81.4% of the vote while beating Maya Gilbert-Dunbar, actress and the wife of “9-1-1” star Rockmond Dunbar. Gilbert-Dunbar took 18.6% of the vote.
In the race for secretary-treasurer, Joely Fisher received 70.3% while her opponent, Peter Antico, had 29.7%.
“These are dynamic times,” Drescher said in a statement. “And as one member body, we will weather the storms, stand on our principles and make sure our major contributions to this collaborative art form shall never again be diminished but rather be exalted.
“I want all members to be equal in all ways and I will continue to fight against marginalization and discrimination within our union, from our employers and the world at large,” said Drescher,...

Check virtually any list of the most popular television sitcoms of all time, and Friends is likely somewhere near the top. The long-running show provided a glimpse at an idealized version of New York life that has fans still re-watching on repeat nearly three decades later.
While many members of the Friends cast really did become real-life friends from their long work together, things weren’t always rosy on the set — especially in later seasons.
‘Friends’ ran for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004
One thing that makes Friends stand out is its longevity. The ’90s were a popular time for sitcoms. Set aside the likes of Will & Grace, Living Single, Roseanne, and The Nanny, Friends was certainly not alone in capturing the attention of a nation.
Despite this, Friends has set itself apart for its long-lasting appeal. Even Seinfeld — one of the most popular sitcoms of all time — has been unable...

This past summer, as Hollywood faced its second major strike, the president of actors union SAG-AFTRA took the podium. She was without makeup, she was raspy and she was pissed. Gone was the ozone-shattering hairspray and the wild prints plucked right from the zoo. Nowhere in earshot was the dog whistle voice and the dolphin laugh. This was Fran Drescher: not the street-smart bimbo of somehow successful sitcoms and expectedly by-the-numbers romances, but the woman who will do anything to show her loyalty and not back down from anything. She had done it throughout her career through battles with industry execs and cancer, and now she was doing it against some of the biggest names in Hollywood.
Wtf Happened to…Fran Drescher?
But to truly understand what the fuck happened to Fran Drescher, we go back to the beginning. And the beginning began when she was born on September 30th,...

It seemed like he'd be with us forever, but the iconic game show presented and primetime TV mainstay Bob Barker has died at the age of 99. Barker was best known as the long-running host of "The Price is Right" revival, which premiered on CBS in 1972. Barker told contestants to "Come on down!" and ushered them through the fabulous Showcase Showdown innumerable times during his tenure as host through 2007. But even before those three-plus decades of television excellence, Barker had already hosted the popular game show "Truth or Consequences" for 21 years, between 1956 and 1975.
Barker is perhaps the most prolific game show presenter in American broadcast history, but his eminence extended beyond daytime TV. His trademark combination of unflappable reliability, chivalrous old-school charm, and slight underbelly of mischievous caddishness lent itself to a remarkable ability to send up his own persona in cameo roles in films and scripted television series. Barker appeared...
