Trivia:

The title of Lionel's often mentioned memoir was "My Life in Kenya". Jenny Funnell, who portrayed Sandy on the show, was actually born in Kenya.

Goofs:

Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): In Season 3 Episode 2, Lionel is telling Rocky a joke about a parrot with no feet. ("So the parrot said, 'No, I didn't see a thing. I got so excited I fell off my perch.'") Rocky replies, "I understand the joke, I just don't think it's funny. In Season 9 Episode 3, Rocky tells the same joke to Mrs. Bale, laughs, and admits, "It's a very good joke, that!" (Note: "Season 5 Episode 6 has Lionel telling the joke to Steven, who doesn't get it.)

Gentle, very realistic, with likable characters

This show grows on you. It's not as purely funny as many top comedies (e.g., Frasier, Friends, Mad About You, Seinfeld), it's not as imaginative in plot or continuing story as others. There's no truly over the top character whose wildness captures the public's imagination.

Yet the writing and acting work gently - slowly but not too slowly - to make this a very pleasant world to be in.

And so you DO look forward to visiting with these people, do care about their smallish problems, do chuckle at the gentle humor.

The characters just seem so very real that it does feel like you're dropping in on visiting people who are warm, real, caring, likable.

It's a very likable show.
