  • Revealing mistakes: Bob's boat is obviously being pulled, not sailed.

  • Continuity: The sailboats in the background during the conversation on the lawn at the lake.

  • Boom mic visible: After Dr. Marvin throws Bob out of the car, he drives away. The boom is reflected in the windshield.

  • Crew or equipment visible: In widescreen versions, the Steadicam operator is reflected in the window of the general store.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: When Marie from Good Morning America is interviewing Dr. Marvin and Bob, Leo inadvertently calls her "Joan" the first time he speaks to her. Joan Lunden plays/is the home-base correspondent for GMA. Leo had been rehearsing his speech to Joan Lunden all night, but Marie was the interviewer that came to his house. Leo froze up on TV and repeated his rehearsed message even though it was no longer appropriate.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): The weapon over the mantle is incorrectly referred to as a rifle when clearly it is a shotgun. Bob also refers to it as a rifle later. Shotguns are smooth-bores, not rifles.

  • Continuity: The photograph of Lily in Dr. Marvin's office changes between the wide shot and the close-up.

  • Continuity: Gil the goldfish changes species throughout the film.

  • Factual errors: In the scene where Dr. Leo Marvin is receiving a traffic ticket from a NH State Trooper, the trim on the Trooper's uniform is yellow/gold. In fact, NH State Police uniforms have green piping on the pockets and epaulets of the shirt, and a green stripe on the outside leg of the pants.

  • Continuity: After Dr Marvin has his breakdown near the end of the movie, the Dr taking care of him in his home believes he has left Leo sedated in the bedroom. He then accompanies Fay, Lily and Bob into the hallway where he gives them instructions. At one point he takes out his prescription pad with the intention of writing, while simultaneously telling them what he intends to prescribe. At the moment the Dr merely touches his pen to the pad, Bob begins to question his choice of medication causing the Dr to pause and reconsider. He then states that Bob may be right and that he would rewrite the prescription. The problem is that he never wrote anything to begin with as the pad is empty as he walks away from them down the hall.
