Atari, Inc., one of the world's most recognized video game publishers, and acclaimed Mmo developer Cryptic Studios, announced today that Leonard Nimoy, the actor who originated the legendary and beloved Star Trek character of Spock more than 40 years ago, has joined the cast of Star Trek Online, the first massively multiplayer online role-playing game (Mmorpg) ever set in the Star Trek universe. Nimoy, who recently reprised his role as Spock in 2009's Star Trek movie, will voice the introduction for Star Trek Online. Nimoy's voice, known to millions of fans all over the world, will also be heard during key scenes and events in-game. "I am happy to be involved with Star Trek Online. Review: 'Star Trek: The Art of the Film'

15 November 2009 10:00 PM, PST | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

The critical and popular success of Jj Abrams Star Trek last spring ensured that its November 17 release on Blu-ray and DVD will be one of the most eagerly awaited events on the home entertainment calendar. To coincide with the release, Titan Books has published "Star Trek: The Art of the Film", a visual companion to Abrams' reboot of the legendary franchise. Thanks to our friends at Titan we have been able to obtain a preview copy and we're happy to say it's a worthy complement to the movie.

"Star Trek: The Art of the Movie" is not to be confused with "The Art of Star Trek", which was published by Pocket Books and covers the original Star Trek timeline. The new hardcover book's 162-pages are printed on glossy paper, and not surprisingly display more images than words. Nonetheless it covers a wealth of material.

Ewan McGregor And Christopher Plummer Are Beginners

6 October 2009 10:39 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Ewan McGregor and Christopher Plummer are teaming up to work for Mike Mills. Production Weekly says they.re both on board the Thumbsucker director.s next feature, a movie called Beginners. Mills seems to have a thing for single word titles. Throw in an exclamation point or something man. No word yet on what the movie will be about or for that matter what the heck McGregor and Plummer might be doing in it. In my head I.m imagining Chris Plummer bolting back on his Klingon eyepatch from Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country and engaging in a battle to the death with Ewan McGregor in full Obi Wan attire, but that.s probably never going to happen. What we do know is that the movie starts shooting next month in La and that Mills has proven he might know what he.s doing behind a camera. Thumbsucker was »

Star Trek Meets 'Battlestar Galactica' In Proposed Sequel

16 September 2009 5:07 AM, PDT | AirlockAlpha.com | See recent Airlock Alpha news »

The world was starting to become a different place in 1991 when "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" was released. Not only were fans reeling from the 1989 disaster that was "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier," but the collapse of the Soviet Union created the possibility that enemies didn't have to be enemies forever. That mindset was brilliantly expressed by the writing team of Leonard Nimoy, Nicholas Meyer, Denny Martin Flinn (and we guess a little by Lawrence Konner and Mark Rosenthal, something that has been historically disputed by Nimoy) with the Federation, and especially Capt. Kirk, having to explore the possibility that if the Klingons could not be friends, they could at least be the annoying in-laws we all have to tolerate from time to time. Tackling real-world issues »

My BluRay Shelf: 'The Undiscovered Country' wraps up the 'Star Trek' series... for now

2 September 2009 8:30 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

You know what I like most about "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country"?  It's got a plot and a villain unlike any other in the entire film series, and it does something genuinely different with the setting than I think any "Trek" fan would have expected at that point in the franchise.  It also more than redeems the series after the horrific "Star Trek V." You know what Toshi liked most about "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country"? All the goddamn Klingons. He's decided that Klingons are about the coolest thing ever invented.  He loves it when Klingons are horrible, too.  »

BBC Reveals Animated 'Doctor Who'

23 August 2009 10:56 PM, PDT | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

The BBC has released the first image from a new animated spin-off of Doctor Who. The image (below) shows the Doctor as he will appear in the new series, which is called Dreamland.

The Doctor will be played by David Tennant and will presumably match Tennant's incarnation of the character in Doctor Who. Tennant's interpretation is the latest to air in the live-action BBC series and has been hugely popular. He has, however, passed on the role to Matt Smith for the next season of Doctor Who.

Alongside Tennant's Doctor in Dreamland will be a new companion, Cassie Rick, played by Georgia Moffett (Doctor Who, Spooks).

Dreamland was written by Phil Ford, who has also penned episodes of the Doctor Who spin-offs Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures. The plot sees the Doctor stumble on a mysterious alien artefact at a diner. This leads him to Roswell and a confrontation with the ruthless Viperox, »

Huff Post Review: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)

14 July 2009 11:17 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince 2009 153 minutes Rated PG by Scott Mendelson Without question, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the best out-and-out sixth chapter of any franchise since Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Granted, the competition isn't very stiff (Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare, Police Academy 6: City Under Siege, etc), but it's still remarkable how well this long-running series has held up. So when I say that this sixth film is perhaps my least favorite film of the franchise, it is only tepid criticism at best. When a film this good can be considered the weakest of six, that says something about the consistency of quality running through the Harry Potter series. A token amount of plot - Harry Potter is still recovering from the shocking death of Sirius Black during »

Tennant's Hamlet To Be Filmed

29 May 2009 5:08 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

David Tennant, lately Doctor Who around these parts, gave an absolutely storming performance as Hamlet last year in the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of that play, so we thought you'd want to know that he's reprising his role - along with fellow thespian Patrick Stewart, who played both Claudius and the Ghost - for a three-hour BBC version of the play.Yes, if you were one of the many, many people who either couldn't get a ticket to see the play in London or Stratford or who missed Tennant when he was forced to retire due to a bad back, there's another chance. The play is one of the world's most famous, and basically sees a guy dither for four acts about whether or not to avenge his father's death. It is, however, one of the greatest pieces of drama ever written and certainly one that's provided the titles to »

Blu-Ray Review: See Origins of Kirk, Spock in ‘Star Trek: Motion Picture Trilogy’

8 May 2009 9:36 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – It’s a cliched line, but the Blu-Ray release of “Star Trek: Motion Picture Trilogy” has something for everyone. It’s a release that will satisfy a generation that grew up in the prime theatrical era of this franchise and give young viewers who fall in love wiht J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” more of their new favorite series of films.

Blu-Ray Rating: 5.0/5.0 Buyers unfamiliar with the history of the franchise would naturally assume that “Star Trek: Motion Picture Trilogy” consists of the first three films in the now-eleven film series. Nope. Paramount cuts out the first film, the mediocre “Star Trek: The Motion Picture,” and focuses on what is easily the most beloved sub-series in the entire theatrical run of the Enterprise - “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan,” “Star Trek III: The Search For Spock,” and “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home”.

Not All Treks Are Created Equal: Ranking the ‘Star Trek’ Films

8 May 2009 8:44 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – With the eleventh (and best) “Star Trek” movie landing in theaters today, we thought we’d take a look back at the ten-pack that came before, the films that defined the Trek universe (along with the TV incarnations, of course).

The “Star Trek” filmography is wildly varying in quality, stretching the spectrum from beloved sci-fi classic to total disaster. Which one was the worst? Which was the pre-J.J. Abrams best? Let us guide the way where so many have gone before.

10. “Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

Easily the worst of the Trek films, original series, or Next Generation cast, it’s honestly surprising that the franchise could survive a film this bad. If “The Next Generation” TV series hadn’t injected life back into the solar system of characters that Gene Roddenberry created and the universe was simply film-based at this point, the series probably would have stopped after five films. »

Trekking With Tim, Day Six: Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

Now this is more like it. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country finds the series back on firm ground. Visually, this is the best Trek movie I've seen so far, and it's probably the most accessible. It's also a thoughtful political fable and a surprisingly involving murder mystery: the Cuban Missile Crisis as a whodunit. As the movie opens, the Klingon Empire is in deep trouble due to an economic and ecological disaster (an explosion on the moon Praxis, a fuel depot) and an inability to maintain its many space stations and military outposts (gee, sound like any superpowers you »

Film Junk’s Top 10 Gag Inducing Sex Scenes

Filmmakers always talk about how awkward it is filming sex scenes. Well guess what? Sometimes it's Equally as awkward watching them! When they're done well, they can be hot, but when placed in the wrong hands, a sex scene can be the worst viewing experience ever. I submit to you that the following 10 films contain some of the most gag inducing sex scenes ever caught on film (excluding pornography of course). Many of the films on this list are included for different reasons; some are brutal, some are awkward, and some are just plain gross. Get ready to have your mind And your genitals blown! These are my picks for the 10 most gag inducing sex scenes. (Caution: Some of the following images may be considered Nsfw.) 10. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991) [1] I’ll admit it, this might be a bit of a stretch. However, I'm sure that any fan »

'Star Trek' is Coming to Blu-ray in a Big Way

16 February 2009 5:52 PM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Anyone that has read this site for a long time knows I am a pretty big fan of the original "Star Trek" universe. I'm talking Captain Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty and the gang. I have reviewed all six of the last Original Series DVD releases as well as the DVD releases of Star Trek: First Contact, Generations, Insurrection, Nemesis and all four seasons of "Enterprise". Strangely enough I don't consider myself a Trekkie since I love the show, but don't have a very deep knowledge of the universe, and that's an understatement. My favorite movies from the franchise are Wrath of Khan and Voyage Home and I have no idea when was the last time I saw the original Motion Picture, Search for Spock, The Final Frontier or The Undiscovered Country. However, that will all change come May 12 as Paramount will release all six of the original Star Trek films »
