Ice Cube Regrets Turning Down Menace + Taking Ghosts Of Mars

20 September 2008 7:02 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Rapper/actor Ice Cube has two major career regrets - turning down a part in the film Menace II Society and agreeing to Ghosts Of Mars.

The star would rather scrub the latter movie off his resume - because he thinks it's the worst film he has made.

He says, "I don't like that movie. I'm a big fan of (director) John Carpenter (and) the only reason I did it was because John Carpenter directed it.

"But they really didn't have the money to pull the special effects off."

And he also wishes he could swap that film for Menace II Society - a movie he turned down.

The rapper tells Hustler magazine, "I had just done Boyz N The Hood and Trespass (and) I didn't want to get stuck playing just characters from the 'hood.

"That's the only one (movie) I said, 'Damn, that's a good movie I wish I had been in.'"

The 1993 film, starring Samuel L. Jackson and Larenz Tate, has become a cult classic.

'L.A. Confidential' Tops List of Los Angeles Films

1 September 2008 10:05 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

The Los Angeles Times has released its list of films that best reflect the culture of The City of Angels. L.A. Confidential was the number one film in the survey of Times writers, and oddly enough, the top three titles are all from 1997.

The poll ranked those movies from the past quarter century that not only best represented Los Angeles but also incorporate the city as "a main character,".

While I'm as shocked as anyone that Born in East L.A. didn't make the cut, there are a couple in the final field of 25 that I found just as surprising. Here's the top five:

1 - L.A. Confidential

2 - Boogie Nights

3 - Jackie Brown

4 - Boyz N The Hood

5 - Beverly Hills Cop

L.A. Confidential Tops Best Los Angeles Movies

1 September 2008 6:22 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

L.A. Confidential has topped a new list of films made about Los Angeles culture.

The 1997 cop drama beat Boogie Nights and Jackie Brown in the new Los Angeles Times newspaper poll.

1997 appears to have been a vintage year for Tinseltown at the movies - the top three films all came out that year.

The movies polled were all released in the last 25 years and feature the city as a "main character".

The top 10 is:

1. L.A. Confidential

2. Boogie Nights

3. Jackie Brown

4. Boyz N The Hood

5. Beverly Hills Cop

6. The Player

7. Clueless

8. Repo Man

9. Collateral

10. The Big Lebowski
