a passage of rites movie, with cinematography to die for

jason adams is a revelation as the misunderstood young man in The Arc. Sweeping shots of the desert add to religious undertones, giving this movie a unique effect. i only ever saw this once on channel 4 , england, in 1991, yet ive seen nothing better. Rob Tregenza's (the director/cinematographer)genius is his minimalist approach to subject matter in my opinion, giving the cast a distinct human body to work with. As a piece of film this is amazing, as a piece of art it is timeless. Mark Daynes.

One of the best roadmovies ever produced as far as I know. The movie is as independent as John Butz in the movie. I saw this movie on a German channel a couple of years ago. It seems that nobody else has noticed the rarity of this great movie. This goes far beyond movies such as 'easy rider'.

I saw this movie on German television in 1993, my TV was at that time a black & white 14" monitor, i had the sound muted because i was playing my acoustic guitar while watching TV. After half an hour i turned the sound on and watched this movie, something about the lighting, camera-work and scenery drew my attention. The simplicity and acceptance behavior of the main character made a connection, a deep connection. At the time i was in a similar situation... At the End, i just cried while taping the credit-music on my cassette-recorder (Mono Mini jack). It is the most beautiful yet haunting singing-voice, still to date, that i have ever heard.

I still wonder who the female vocalist is.

I saw it on TV a few years ago, it really moved me to see what happened next after he had made the move to leave his family and just Live in the moment. I Love the ending-music with this woman singing with a beautiful voice...

Dark journey

John Butz is a welder who gets forced out of his hometown by his fellow co-workers who go on strike. A solitary voice, he leaves his girlfriend too, embarking on a journey of self-discovery. The cinematography & minimal content of this dark yet enlightening piece of cinema will enrich anyones life who sees it.

This to me is an almost religious piece especially for the ending, which is simply outstanding. Jason Adams is amazing, and I find it hard to believe this method actor never won the top film roles after this, instead acting in (amongst other parts)'Dr Quinn Medicine Woman.'

I, for one, am a huge fan of this movie & the director Rob Tregenza - still working against the constraints of mainstream American cinema.
