It felt like part of Childish Gambino died last night. As his sturdy frame lumbered through golden LSD obelisks and beads of sweat pooled on his back as “Redbone” played, he had the bearing of an exhausted man leaving behind a husk he’d never return to collect.
At the outset of the first Madison Square Garden stop on the ‘This Is America’ Tour, Donald Glover let the audience know that this is “the last Childish Gambino tour ever.” And he made good on his big promise for the night: “This is not a concert,...

After last week’s emotional episode “The Grove”, fans went into this week’s episode “Us” questioning whether or not we’d get a reprieve. With the final two episodes of season four now upon us, any kind of slow down is highly unlikely as there’s so much still to cover. It’s a race to the finish as everyone heads towards the anticipated reunion since the fall of the prison. We know that a number of survivors won’t be among those making it to Terminus, Rip Mika and Lizzie to name a few, but with the final two episodes, we find ourselves asking who else might not make it to watershed moment that is the Terminus sanctuary?

Yusef Lateef, who died on Monday after a bout with prostate cancer, was a devout Muslim who did not like his music to be called jazz because of the supposed indecent origins and connotations of the word (although those origins are still debated). He preferred the self-coined phrase "autophysiopsychic music." Furthermore, his music encompassed an impressively broad range of styles, and the only Grammy he won was in the New Age category -- for a recording of a symphony. Think about those things amid the flood of Lateef obituaries with "jazz" in the headline.
That said, certainly Lateef's own musical origins indisputably revolved around jazz. Growing up in Detroit, a highly fertile musical environment in the 1930s and beyond, Lateef got his first instrument, an $80 Martin alto sax, at age 18. Within a year he was on the road with the 13 Spirits of Swing (arrangements by Milt Buckner).

Planning on seeing "Avatar" again this weekend? Why not, right? It's January, a month when few quality titles are released. And as a fan of the sci-fi behemoth, you're hoping to help push James Cameron's film ahead of "Titanic" as the top-grossing movie of all time.
But hey, there are actually a few great films coming out this weekend. They're just in limited release, so you'll have to live in "select cities" to see them. Just take the 3-D glasses off for a few hours, look around and you may be able to find one of these worthwhile titles, all of them featuring amazing British actors, in your home or neighborhood arthouse in the coming weeks.
"Fish Tank"

Halloween, my favorite holiday, is approaching like Jason Voorhees to summer camp counselors. With it will come an assault of blood and gore on television and in the theaters. While all horror films can't be classics, Erik Estrada's Spirits being a perfect example, many of them offered a break for ...
