• Plot holes: This film contains two sizable plot holes in relation to The Exorcist (1973). First, in the original, the person who discovers that Regan (Linda Blair) is not speaking a foreign language, but is in fact speaking English backwards, is a white male. In this film, Kinderman (George C. Scott) says that the person who made this discovery was a black female. Second, in the original film, Kinderman and Karras (Jason Miller) had only met each other twice before Karras died. In this film, it is implied that they were extremely close friends who had known each other for years.
  
  
• Revealing mistakes: The police photographer takes a lot of pictures of the body of Father Dyer in the hospital. However, his body is completely covered with a sheet throughout, making these photos pointless to an investigation.

• Revealing mistakes: The buildings depicted as being Georgetown University Hospital in the film occupy a block near the school's main campus. They actually housed the hospital from 1898 to 1930. However, after that, the hospital moved to a much larger campus a few blocks northwest. At the time of filming, the old hospital complex housed a variety of non-medical activities, and its internal geography bore no relation to the interiors depicted in the film. The hospital room where Kinderman views the blood vials is located, judging from its view, where a student apartment was in real life. The corridor outside the room would have run through a wall into an adjoining classroom building. The interior decor of the hospital is based on Georgetown's student center, which represented the hospital in some location shots.
  
  

• Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: After the first priest dies in the church confessional, his hand twitches a bit after Kinderman replaces the sheet.
