(Italy, 1989) Giuseppe Tornatore’s sentimental gush about a famous director reminiscing about his idyllic childhood, working for a paternal theater projectionist (Philippe Noiret) in a small Italian town, was a hit in Europe and Oscar winner for Best Foreign Language Film in the US, where it was released in a shortened version. His valentine to the movies was restored to its original 174 minute length for an American re-release in 2002. Both versions are included in this two-disc edition. The Limited Collectors Edition comes with a bonus CD soundtrack, reproductions of posters and lobby cards, and recipes, in a gift box.
