Nelly Frijda was fired from the show after failing to show up on a filming day without any notice. She claimed to have been ill and that her publicist had been instructed to inform the crew, but her claim was disputed by producer John van de Rest as she had performed on stage that very day.

In 1991, producer John van de Rest announced plans for a German version of this series, which was a remake of the UK's Porridge (1974), to be filmed on the same sets as "Laat maar zitten" in the Hoevelaken, Netherlands studio, but with a cast of German actors.
Actress Josine van Dalsum, who was married to producer John van de Rest, worked as assistant director on this show before director Frans Boelen suggested that she take over the part of the prison's director from Nelly Frijda.
