Northgate High School in Walnut Creek, California was used as the filming location for the affluent school at the beginning of the film. Many students and teachers served as extras. After filming of the scenes were finished, Jim Belushi posed for a picture with everyone from that school. The picture has been printed in the yearbook from that year since.
Michael Keaton was considered for the role of Rick Latimer, as was Gary Busey...who had to turn down the part because he was busy shooting 'Lethal Weapon' (1987).
Star Jim Belushi would later have a small bit part in the movie 'Abraxas: Guardian of the Universe' (1990) playing a principal also named Latimer.
Actress Kelly Minter, who portrayed Treena, the unhappy teenage mother hooked up with the wrong crowd, will remember 1987 as the year of the summer when she appeared in two school-oriented films. In addition to her role in this picture, Minter starred opposite Mark Harmon in the same year's 'Summer School' (1987).
In this movie, Rick Latimer (James Belushi) is supposed to be much older than Victor Duncan (Michael Wright). In real life, they are less than two years apart in age. Belushi was born in June of 1954 and Wright was born in April of 1956.
