Are you ready for the return of the king? It's been 13 years since Francis Ford Coppola helmed a feature film — that would be 2011's weird horror flick "Twixt" — and now he's back in the director's chair to realize his dream project. In the 1980s, Coppola started writing "Megalopolis," an epic, sprawling drama that could very well be his biggest movie ever. He would tinker with the work over the years and finally start shooting second unit footage in 2001.
And then disaster struck, literally. The film's script dealt with the aftermath of a disaster that befalls New York City, and just as Coppola was gearing up to get "Megalopolis" off the ground, the 9/11 attacks changed everything. Realizing that no one at the time would be in the mood to watch a post-disaster movie set in New York, Coppola shelved the project — but he never forgot about it.

Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe continues to grow and evolve with more and more spin-offs on the way. Despite the end of Kevin Costner’s journey in the Western world with season 5, Sheridan seems to have no plans to end the universe with John Dutton. And Harrison Ford’s 1923 is one of the many spin-offs existing and said to be in the works.
Kevin Costner as John Dutton in Yellowstone
Starring in the prequel series, and playing the great great grand uncle of John Dutton, Ford does an impeccable job as always. Playing a character related to Costner’s Dutton, any other actor would have thought to reach out to Costner, especially given the rumored feud between Sheridan and the Yellowstone star. Yet, Ford had other plans.

Everyone knows that Taylor Sheridan is truly one of the greatest legendary masterminds in the entertainment industry, having created not only the epic Yellowstone show but also a series of spin-offs that serve and will serve as its prequels and sequels. But did you know that one of his spin-off series even beat the blockbuster Game of Thrones saga in one aspect?
Taylor Sheridan in Yellowstone.
As it turns out, this is only true, especially when talking about his most recent spin-off show 1923, which will soon be spawning a second season that was delayed due to the strikes. And as hard as it may be to believe, Sheridan is pretty confident that this particular series of his has managed to surpass even GoT when it comes to the budget its first season has been created on.

On Monday April 22, 20th Century Studios’ all-new action-adventure spectacle, Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes, made a trip to Venice Beach to get some sun, catch some waves and promote the film to onlookers lucky enough to be there. The film opens in movie theaters globally on May 10, 2024, and will be available in IMAX®, Dolby Cinema®, 4Dx, and premium screens everywhere. Be among the first to see Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes on the big screen at the early access screening on May 8th.

Jake Gyllenhaal is one of Hollywood’s most versatile actors, and he has pushed his creative limits since he broke into the industry. It was apparent in spades in the psychological thriller, Donnie Darko, with Richard Kelly at its helm, with the role winning him accolades.
Since its release in 2001, the film has become quite popular among film buffs, and it has gained a bit of a cult following. The plot takes the viewers on a ride right off the bat. However, there was one scene, so gruesome, that even the director could not add to the director’s cut.

With Daniel Craig’s exit as James Bond, Eon Productions has been on the lookout for the next British actor to play Agent 007. While the former Superman, Henry Cavill, is a fan favorite, recent reports indicated that Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson was offered the role by the studio and that he was expected to take up the offer and announce soon.
However, the rumor has not been confirmed by the actor or the production house, leading fans to bash the outlet that broke the news. Taylor-Johnson’s apparent confirmation as James Bond led to many fans being dejected by Cavill’s loss, but the campaign seems to be on full steam now that the news has been unconfirmed.

Plot: Based on the Edgar Award-winning non-fiction book from author James L. Swanson, “Manhunt” is a conspiracy thriller about one of the best known but least understood crimes in history, the astonishing story of the hunt for John Wilkes Booth in the aftermath of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.
Review: The life and untimely death of Abraham Lincoln have been fodder for film and television since the invention of the medium. Before that, books and stage plays told the story of the President who ended the Civil War, abolished slavery, and died unceremoniously. But, in all of the tales of Honest Abe and his killer, John Wilkes Booth, few have chronicled the tumultuous aftermath between Ford’s Theater and the capture of those who perpetrated the heinous murder. Aside from Robert Redford’s The Conspirator, which focused on the trial of Booth’s accomplices, we have never gotten a full retelling of the events.

Harrison Ford has been acting for over 50 years, rising to fame in 1977 for his iconic performance as Han Solo in the Star Wars franchise. Throughout his career, he has taken on legendary characters such as Indiana Jones and has had his fair share of injuries during filming.
Despite intense safety protocols on movie sets, injuries sometimes occur and can result in significant production delays. However, depending on the severity of the injury and the actor’s willingness to proceed, sometimes “the show must go on!”
That was the case in the 1993 film The Fugitive, where Ford tore several ligaments in his knee, resulting in his character having an onscreen limp.

Tom Cruise just celebrated his 61st birthday and the Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One star is opening up about his future in acting.
With the seventh film in the Mission: Impossible film series dropping on July 12, Cruise is not ready to slow down and is looking at Harrison Ford for inspiration.

I dug Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. It feels appropriate to preface this article with that because so much of the initial critical buzz (including on this site) was negative enough that it colored what I found to be a sweet-natured if flawed farewell to Harrison Ford’s hero—and one with a pretty perfect ending for a franchise film where the lead actor is 80 years old. You can tell it meant something for the star and the character.
Yet the age of that star and the increasingly distant legacy he represents should be on many a studio exec’s mind after this weekend, which saw Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny open at number one in the domestic and global box office but still attract an aura of disappointment around its numbers. Spoiler Alert: This story discusses major plot developments, including the final scene, in “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” currently playing in theaters.
When Lucasfilm announced in 2016 that Steven Spielberg was making a fifth “Indiana Jones” movie with Harrison Ford, fans naturally wondered how much of a role Karen Allen’s Marion Ravenwood — Indy’s spitfire equal from 1981’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and the love of his life — would play in the new film. The last time audiences saw Marion, she was getting married to Indy at the end of 2008’s “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” after she revealed to Indy that they’d had a child together, who Indy meets as teenage greaser Mutt Williams (Shia Labeouf). So any follow-up movie would at the very least need to address the fact that Indy is married with a (grown) kid.

Dean Smith, who won a gold medal as a sprinter at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics before becoming a top-notch Hollywood stunt performer who worked on a dozen films starring John Wayne, has died. He was 91.
Smith died Saturday at his home in Breckenridge, Texas, after a battle with cancer, his friend Rob Word told The Hollywood Reporter.
Smith, who got into the business with help from James Garner, appeared in seven Paul Newman films, including Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958), Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean (1972), The Sting (1973) and The Towering Inferno (1974).
The tough Texan, who loved to say he could “ride, run and jump,” doubled for good friend Dale Robertson on the 1957-62 NBC series Tales of Wells Fargo, the 1964 film Blood on the Arrow and the 1966-68 ABC series Iron Horse.

What do you do when the late-night talk show you write for is at the top? Go ice skating! That’s what the Gordon Ford Show team did on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Actor Austin Basis, who plays Gordon Ford’s head writer, Alvin revealed that knowing how to ice skate for the scene was actually a bonus.
“Actually, when I got the part, they were like, ‘Oh yeah, can you ice skate?’ I was like, ‘Yeah. I mean, I usually don’t fall, but I don’t know if I could do any tricks.’ But, I was lucky enough, I actually did a skating part where I skated on the hockey rink during Beauty and the Beast. And I actually used hockey skates,” Basis told Showbiz Cheat Sheet.

In “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” the sturdy lark, positioned precariously in the liminal space between commerce and taste, there are the familiar callbacks, the big set pieces, the cracking bullwhip, dashing fedoras, nefarious Nazis, exotic locales, old friends and new faces. Something, however, is missing. More on that in a bit. It starts with a recognizable canvas: Nazi Germany is nearing the end of World War II. A hooded Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford), wearing a German officer’s suit, is hauled with a sack over his head for questioning.

One of the best lines in “Raiders of the Lost Ark” – which is to say, one of the best lines in the entire, now-five-film saga of Indiana Jones – comes when Harrison Ford’s intrepid archaeologist and part-time Nazi hunter lies on a bed, bruised, battered and aching pretty much everywhere. When his girlfriend, Marion (Karen Allen), comments on how many years he’s been doing the punishing gig, Ford ad-libbed, “It’s not the years, honey. It’s the mileage.”
Well, “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” which premiered on Thursday night at the Cannes Film Festival, is about the years and the mileage. Then it’s about the years some more because the semi-supernatural twist this time around involves time travel.

After exploring Alfred Hitchcock, Alien, George Lucas, William Friedkin, and more, filmmaker Alexandre O. Philippe is gearing up for a major summer. Before Lynch/Oz arrives in June, his documentary The Taking will arrive in cinemas on May 5 courtesy of Dekanalog and we’re pleased to debut the exclusive trailer.
A selection at Fantastic Fest and BFI London Film Festival, the film finds Philippe analyzing the myth of Arizona’s Monument Valley, its symbolism in westerns (including numerous legendary titles from John Ford), and its significance during the conquest of the West and in American history.
“Even though I have a little fun with John Ford, this intent is also not to trash John Ford. The intent is not to trash the function of myth. Myth is important, and the idea, as false as it may be, of this false narrative about the American west, still carries a lot of values that I can relate to,...

Rose Weissman changed actor Marin Hinkle‘s perspective on how she appreciates art and style. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star recently opened up about how playing Rose made her look at art, style, and even humor differently after five seasons of the award-winning series.
“I wore sweatshirts a lot and wore sweat pants and kind of lived life in a very disheveled way,” she told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “And I still primarily do that, but I pay more attention to art. I go to museums with a new look, and I let myself take in the visuals and people that put themselves together in ways that Rose does and that many of the characters on the show do and that [producer] Amy [Sherman-Palladino] sort of even presents and the way that they let visuals be so important.”

“Over hill, over dale, as we hit the dusty trail, and those caissons go rolling along. In and out, hear them shout, counter march and right about, and those caissons go rolling along.”
Catchy tune, isn’t it? The war tune, “The Army Goes Rolling Along” was belted out on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel every time someone used the bathroom in Gordon Ford head writer Alvin’s office. God forbid anyone in the writers’ room hear someone pee.
But this was the ’60s when modesty and manners were still important. So singing the catchy song was an added quirk to tickle the audience’s funny bone.
Why was ‘The Army Goes Rolling Along’ chosen for ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ Season 5?
Even choosing the right tune for the writers’ room scene was a bit for Maisel writers and creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino. “The funny story is Dan Palladino wrote that episode.

When it comes to classic collaborations between actors and directors, few can compete with John Ford and John Wayne. The two made movies together for most of their working careers. Even though Ford had a complicated working relationship with Wayne according to most accounts, bullying and belittling him when the cameras were off, they shared a great affection for each other between movies. And at their best, those movies are unbeatable.
Ford had a bit of a reputation for his behavior on sets, coming from his tendency to yell or roughhouse. If Ford could be a bit of a heel on set, a tyrannical bully with a megaphone, he was beloved to many of his longtime actors, the wide-ranging community that became known as the John Ford Stock Company. In many ways, his behavior was probably excused as a lot of masculine ribbing, men ridiculing each other in the tradition...

It's no secret that Christian Bale takes his roles seriously. So seriously, that he'll commit to massive weight changes to help get into character — a practice he said he's finished with as of 2019. The actor famously shed almost all his body fat to play the sleep-deprived 121-pound protagonist of "The Machinist" before bulking up to 240 pounds to take on the role of the Dark Knight in 2005's "Batman Begins." Since then he's fluctuated in weight with every role he's taken. Bale once again packed on the pounds to play Dick Cheney in 2018's "Vice," then immediately dropped 40 pounds to play British racing driver Ken Miles in "Ford v Ferrari" — prompting his co-star Matt Damon to praise his "monk-like discipline."
And his commitment to roles extends beyond weight fluctuations. For 2022's "Amsterdam," Bale became a bit of a stalker after seeing a man on the street whose movements he wanted to...

Steven Spielberg is from the esteemed filmmaking group known as the Movie Brats. Their ranks include film giants such as Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas, Brian De Palma, and Martin Scorsese. What made them so special? They learned about movies by watching movies. It set them apart from their predecessors, those who came up through the studio system, theater, or television, forced to adhere to traditional film conventions.
The Movie Brats were a bold group of visionaries who took what they learned from the greats of the Classical Hollywood era and infused the film industry with their own daring artistic vision. The Movie Brats honed their skills in a gritty, roughly 15-year filmmaking period known as New Hollywood. There they told earthy, socially oriented stories such as Scorsese's "Taxi Driver" and Mike Nichols' "The Graduate."
Next, the movie brats took advantage of the emerging technology at their disposal, ushering in the blockbuster film era.

The Cinema Audio Society Awards gave a boost to the Oscar hopes of “Top Gun: Maverick” on Saturday. The film took top honors at these precursor prizes that honor sound mixing over all of its Oscar rivals for Best Sound: “All Quiet on the Western Front,” “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “Elvis” and “The Batman.”
“Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” won sound mixing in an animated feature over “Lightyear,” “Minions: The Rise of Gru,” Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” and “Turning Red.”
And “Moonage Daydream” claimed the documentary feature prize over: “Good Night Oppy,” “Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song,” “Louis Armstrong’s Black and Blues,” and “The Volcano: Rescue from Whakaari.”
The upcoming Oscars mark the third year for the Best Sound category, which combines Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing. The Cas honors the latter while the Motion Picture Sound Editors salute achievements in the former.

Long before Tom Cruise snapped his ankle in half jumping from rooftop to rooftop while making "Mission: Impossible — Fallout," Harrison Ford was putting his body on the line for our entertainment.
There's a long history of lead actors getting injured on movie sets while trying to capture something truly amazing for the viewing audience. Silent star Wallace Reid was famously injured in a train stunt gone wrong in 1919's "The Valley of the Giants" to the point where he ended up addicted to his pain management treatment (at that time the options were morphine or to just grin and bear it). That addiction would end up prematurely killing the young cinema star.
The point is Hollywood has a long history of stars putting their physical health on the line for the good of the picture and one notable incident that isn't talked about nearly as much as it should be...

Harrison Ford isn't quite ready to hang up the bullwhip and dusty fedora that the legendary actor has donned for over four decades. Indiana Jones is arguably the role Ford was born to play, and his eagerness to return as the famed archaeologist in the fifth (and most likely final) entry, "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," should help to get fans excited after the lukewarm reception of "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."
James Mangold is taking over director duties for Indy's next adventure, and has nothing but praise regarding Ford's dedication to making "Dial of Destiny" a satisfying and fitting sendoff for one of cinema's greatest heroes. At 79 years old, Ford committed to the physicality required to pull off the demands of the part with a level of vigor that even went a tad overboard at times, according to his director. "Harrison was up for anything," Mangold told The Hollywood Reporter.

James Mangold may be bringing one of DC’s creepiest heroes to life. The “Logan” and “Ford v. Ferrari” director is reportedly in early talks to tackle “Swamp Thing,” one of the upcoming films from DC Studio’s first chapter of movies under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s command, THR first reported Wednesday.
It’s unclear whether Mangold would both write and direct the film or his exact involvement. Mangold did however seem to confirm his interest on his Twitter, via a post with a panel from the character’s comic series, drawn by co-creator Bernie Wrightson. The post was also retweeted by Gunn.

James Mangold may be trading in his whip for a trip to swamp country.
Mangold, who has Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny hitting theaters in May, is in early talks to be one of the first writer-directors to join James Gunn and Peter Safran’s roster of filmmakers at DC Studios.
Mangold is in discussions with the Warner Bros. arm to take on the feature adaptation of Swamp Thing, the supernatural horror-based hero who is a focal point in the first chapter of DC Studios’ slate.
Gunn and Safran unveiled their slate Tuesday. Swamp Thing was the last of the 10 projects talked about and was tonally the darkest. The executives didn’t mention Mangold at the time, as sources say that talks are still in the early stages.
Still, Mangold on Tuesday night tweeted a simple (but moody and poetic) image of Swamp Thing, drawn by co-creator Bernie Wrightson.

2022 has already been a big year for Michael Mann, between the release of the pilot for "Tokyo Vice" — which marked Mann's first time back in the director's chair since his 2015 cyber-crime thriller "Blackhat" — and the arrival of his "Heat 2" novel. Now comes word that Mann has officially started shooting "Ferrari," a biopic about the titular Italian motor racing giant its director has been planning for a long time. And I mean a long time.
How long? "Ferrari" is based on a script co-credited to Troy Kennedy Martin, the late writer of the 1969 version of "The Italian Job" and "Kelly's Heroes," who passed away in 2009. It's a movie Mann has spent the good part of two decades trying to make a reality, during which time the film's original would-be leading man, Christian Bale, went and starred in another movie with the word "Ferrari" in its title, "Ford v Ferrari," while Mann's biopic spun its wheels.
