Trivia:
When Nicholas Meyer was asked to help with the script, the first thing he wanted to do was change the location from San Francisco to Paris because he had previously written and directed a movie about time travel involving San Francisco called Time After Time (1979). But since Starfleet is supposed to be located in San Francisco, he was overruled. Oddly enough, scenes in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991), as well as scenes from "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" (1993) depict the Office of the Federation President to be in Paris. more
Goofs:
Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Scotty is typing on the computer in the plexiglas factory and his hands are shown the sound effects of typing to not match up with his hands, which are moving much slower. In addition, the there is no way a single keystroke as demonstrated by Scotty could create the level of graphics shown on the 1986-vintage Macintosh computer used in the scene. more

The Voyage Home is the Star Trek film that had the highest box office gross. It captured the imagination of the public who were eager to see Kirk and the crew in present day (1986) San Francisco. Luckily, the film was solid in all aspects and was enjoyed by long-time fans of the series as well. Although the outcome of the film is never in doubt, it never loses the attention of the viewer and entertains throughout. It actually felt fresh and original despite the fact that time travel had been done before (in the TV series) and it was the fourth film in the franchise. Recommended, 8/10.
