The barbaric, bloody sins of the past come to define what entities govern certain land today, carried out by conquistadors and colonizers who hide behind righteous religious falsities to denigrate an indigenous population. With his directorial debut, a hauntingly conceived Chilean western The Settlers (Los Colonos), Felipe Gálvez localizes an origin story of this horror vis-a-vis the brutal genocide of the now-extinct Selk’nam people, who were native to the Patagonian region of southern Argentina and Chile. While spare early passages are narratively opaque and formally ornate to a distancing fault, the riveting second half––including a chilling reckoning with others occupying the desolate land and a well-executed structural gamble––brings profound expansion to this chilling story of atrocity.
Split into boldly conveyed chapters, The Settlers begins in 1901 in Chile’s Tierra de Fuego province. As commanded by the bloodthirsty José Menéndez (Alfredo Castro), a trio of explorers are sent...

The new Netflix series “Xo, Kitty” takes some notes from the “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” film trilogy, but it also branches out for youngest sister Kitty’s (Anna Cathcart) adventures to Korea. After getting the same scholarship that her mom got to study abroad at the Korean Independent School of Seoul, Kitty jets out to surprise her long-distance boyfriend Dae (Minyeong Choi), who happens to attend Kiss. Things get a bit more complicated when Yuri Han (Gia Kim) dreams up a fake dating scheme to distract her mother from other parts of her life, and she chooses Dae to be her fake boyfriend.
And just like the “To All the Boys” movies, the “Xo, Kitty” soundtrack is great.
K-Pop dominates the show’s episodes with big hits from BTS and Blackpink as well as Seventeen and more. The series also connects to Jenny Han’s films starring...

This article contains spoilers for the Dexter: New Blood finale.
A polarizing Dexter finale is better than a universally derided one, right? Dexter: New Blood, the revival of Showtime’s hit drama, finished its run last night with a definitive ending that is leagues above the original swan song, but still controversial among the Dexter faithful. Once fans get over the shock that it’s a wrap for ol’ darkly dreaming Dexter, they’ll realize the serial killer’s fate in Dexter: New Blood was the only ending for the character.
Does Dexter Die in Dexter: New Blood?
The only reason to bring Dexter back was to hold him accountable for his behavior. New Blood rightfully asked the audience to reexamine the charming yet sociopathic killer, whom they viewed more like a Batman-esque vigilante than a murder junkie who would stop at nothing to get his next fix. But Dexter is no hero.

Watchmen episode 7 "An Almost Religious Awe" features the series' most stunning reveal yet. Here is what it could mean.
The following contains spoilers for Watchmen episode 7.
The ending of Watchmen episode 7 “An Almost Religious Awe” would have been incredible enough if it concluded 10 minutes earlier on Lady Trieu’s enigmatic words to Angela Abar.
“You didn’t ask me who he is,” Trieu says. “I know you think I’m crazy but I just told you Doctor Manhattan is here walking amongst us as a human being and you never asked me who he is.”
But of course, Watchmen episode 7 doesn’t cut to credits there with Trent Reznor and Atticus’s Ross’s mesmerizing take on David Bowie’s “Life on Mars.” Instead “An Almost Religious Awe” follows Angela home where she rifles through a drawer and comes face to face with her husband Cal. She...

Money is power in the 1976 television mini-series Arthur Hailey’s The Moneychangers, an adaptation of Hailey’s 1975 bestselling novel.
The tale of corruption and greed in the banking business stars Christopher Plummer (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) in his Emmy-winning role as the suave, hypocritical and skilled Roscoe Heyward and Kirk Douglas (Paths of Glory) as the honest, hard-charging and focused Alex Vandervoort, both of whom are vying for the top position in one of the nation’s largest banks. Along they way, they have run-ins with such supporting cast members as Anne Baxter (The Ten Commandments), Robert Loggia (Scarface), Lorne Greene (Earthquake) , Helen Hayes (Airport) and a seductive-as-ever Joan Collins (Sins).
Yes, it’s a very dated piece as far as the banking industry goes, with the storylines including bits on such problems as credit card fraud, embezzlement, inflation,...

Timothy Dalton has been a part of many stories, but none quite like "Toy Story."
That's why the former James Bond is happy to reprise his "Toy Story 3" voice role as overtly theatrical hedgehog Mr. Pricklepants in ABC's new, animated Disney/Pixar special "Toy Story Of Terror!" Wednesday, Oct. 16.
The Halloween-season tale - setting the other toys on a search after one of their own vanishes during a road trip - also restores Tom Hanks and Tim Allen as cowboy Woody and spaceman Buzz Lightyear, with Don Rickles, Joan Cusack, John Ratzenberger, Michael Keaton and Wallace Shawn among other returnees. Carl Weathers ("Rocky") is a voice-cast newcomer.
Dalton has many stage classics in his background, encompassing works by William Shakespeare and Noel Coward, so he admits he has great fun with Mr. Hedgehog's taking-himself-too-seriously mode.

James Farentino, best remembered for his roles in the television series The Bold Ones: The Lawyers and Dynasty, died of heart failure earlier today at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was 73. A Brooklyn native (born on Feb. 24, 1938), Farentino made his Broadway debut in the 1961 production of Tennessee Williams' Night of the Iguana, starring Bette Davis, Margaret Leighton, and Patrick O'Neal. The following year, he began guesting on various television series, among them The Defenders, Route 66, and 77 Sunset Strip. Despite a Golden Globe as Most Promising Newcomer – Male for Brian G. Hutton's 1967 comedy The Pad and How to Use It, Farentino's film career was a minor one. He did, however, play one of the leads in a more important comedy that same year, David Lowell Rich's Rosie!, based on a play co-written by Ruth Gordon, and starring Rosalind Russell, Sandra Dee, and Brian Aherne. Additionally,...

Thanks to her role as the vindictive, diamond-festooned jackal Alexis Carrington on the decade-defining TV series Dynasty, Joan Collins was the face of Reagan-era opulence. Like Elizabeth Taylor, she seemed to have a knack for playing gorgeous man-eaters who could reduce rivals to dust with a single bitchy quip. At the height of Dynasty’s prime-time run, Collins leveraged her stardom into a pair of lavish made-for-tv CBS movies that are a hoot for aficionados of ’80s camp.
First up is Monte Carlo (1986, Not Rated, 3 hrs., 5 mins.), a giddy cocktail that’s one part Casablanca and one part Hart to Hart.

Olive Films will release the deliciously trashy 1986 television mini-series Sins, starring Dynasty queen Joan Collins, on DVD on June 21.
Joan Collins stars in the 1986 TV mini-series Sins.
Sins tells the long-winded story of Helene Junot (Collins), a woman who survives the horrors of the Nazi occupation of France and suffers a succession of challenges as she rises in the world of fashion, ultimately building her own couture house. Of course, there’s lots of love, lust and betrayal along the way.
Based on the 1982 novel of the same name by Judith Gould, Sins was executive produced by Collins (then at the height of her TV popularity) and her then-husband Peter Holm. The 6½ hour TV “event” was renowned for containing some 85 costume changes for Collins (reportedly a record for a single production). Many of her costumes were designed by Valentino.
