I've tried so hard to swoon over Moonlighting but . . . can't
Oh, how I was looking forward to watching Moonlighting now that they are showing it on Zone-Romantica – now prosaically, and disappointingly, rebranded CBS Drama. I can't remember why it was never on in our house – it must have been on after my bedtime or early enough to clash with Coronation Street, either of which was enough (in those ancient, pre-vcr days, children) to place it firmly out of reach forever. I only saw glimpses during its original 1985-89 run when I was round at other friends' houses or left in the charge of lackadaisical babysitters – who were, of course, the kind my mother would fire instantly upon her return after a single, glorious TV-and-sweets-filled stint.
I remember the beeyootiful blonde lady and the cocky, handsome man. I remember the sub-sexual sparring (even if I didn't entirely understand it – by 1989 I »

This week one of our biggest editions of Gays of Our Lives ever includes an interview with One Life to Live head writer Ron Carlivati, responsible for the Kyle/Oliver love story that has had daytime talking and made instant stars out of Brett Claywell, who plays Kyle Lewis, and Scott Evans, who plays Oliver Fish. We talk about the creation of the storyline, how the actors felt when they learned about the plot twist and why Kish has became such a sensation.
Plus, we find out what’s next for Llanview’s gays. Where do Oliver and Kyle go from here? Is Kyle’s ex Nick (Nicholas Rodriguez) out of the picture? And what about that baby that Oliver unknowingly fathered? We cover all of that and more in our interview.
In Gool Theater, we’ve got some rather steamy and romantic clips from One Life to Live as »

Actress Stana Katic looking tailored as Detective Kate Beckett in Castle.
Storms The Walls Of Castle
By
Actress Stana Katic is on a roll. After scoring supporting roles in two of last year’s highest-profile films, Quantum of Solace and The Spirit, the statuesque Canadian stunner landed the female lead in ABC’s new police drama/romantic comedy Castle, playing Detective Kate Beckett, a tough-as-nails NYPD officer who finds herself with the regrettable assignment of allowing cocky, best-selling crime novelist Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) to shadow her for research on his next book. Not only does she find that Castle’s creative instincts for the criminal mind help her solve some of the city’s most challenging murders, she finds her tough exterior melting under Castle’s considerable charms. The show airs Monday nights on ABC.

Jerry Stahl's first book, the harrowing memoir Permanent Midnight, tells the story of his life as a successful Hollywood writer living with drug addiction. Beginning his career in the adult film industry, Stahl later began writing scripts for such TV hits as "Moonlighting," "Thirtysomething," and "Alf," jobs that put almost $7,000 a week in his bank account. Moving between $100 Los Angeles lunches and meetings with Cybill Shepherd to dangerous scores in the worst parts of the city, Stahl managed to lose his family, his house, his screenwriting opportunity for the second season of "Twin Peaks," and nearly his life. Permanent Midnight is not for people with delicate sensibilities or any other low thresholds for truth. »

Interview: Eric Lichtenfeld Part 1 of 2: Blood and Light
This week, the western world sees the release of Michael Bay’s Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen on DVD, a film very telling of the industry in which it swims. However, for those of us with more then two decades of life under our belts, this is a trumpet, an alarm, a loud drunk at the party of the “action” film genre, it’s a guest that reminds you how much has changed and how your style is no longer “in.” We can rest assured that the drunk is right. Action isn’t what it once was. The hardware has been replaced with software, and the hero has been replaced with the “hottie.” Spectacle is no longer flavored with primal instinct, blood, and brute force. Instead, it’s injected with pusillanimous, pixel-engulfed, stimuli. There’s no need to be bitter. Those that care about the past, »

It’s a slow week for movie releases, with Fantastic Mr. Fox the only release of note in the UK, along with Cirque Du Freak. Most of the remaining big films this year are due out in November and December.
So, with the big winter films already hyped to the max, and with Iron Man 2, Clash of the Titans and Robin Hood being the highly anticipated movies this Spring, I thought i’d take a look at some Spring movies that maybe aren’t getting the attention they deserve – The Losers, Green Zone, A Couple of Dicks, Machete and Kick-Ass. Note, this is a list of the films i’m personally looking forward to, so you won’t necessarily agree with me…
When is it? – 9th April.
Where is it? – Currently filming in Puerto Rico
Who is it? – Directed by Sylvain White, starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Evans, »

The creator and star of the USA Network series talk about the new season
Characters are certainly welcome at the USA Network and in 2006 they introduced us to two very unique characters in Shawn and Gus with the hit series Psych, which is in the midst of its fourth successful season on USA with new episodes airing on Friday nights at 10 Pm Et. Two of the big reasons for the show's success are the involvement of creator and executive producer Steve Franks and star Dule Hill, who stars as Gus on the series. Franks and Hill recently held a conference call discussing this new season, and here's what they had to say.
Steve, what advice would you give to aspiring writers in the business?
Steve Franks: I can't believe I got the first question with Dule Hill on the line. Don't you guys know that there is a television star on this line? »

Bruce Willis is not a bad actor. He just occasionally acts in bad movies. It’s not entirely his fault either. Shall we put it down to “bold choices” that didn’t work out? If in a charitable mood, sure. There has always been a touch of uncertainty about Willis. He does not appear to be a natural storyteller.
Let’s say acting is an egotistical, ridiculous career option for anybody. Consider it. Even before the lucrative potential is taken into account – pretending to be other people is rather odd. Actors take up a lifetime of lying and fantasying in some vainglorious search for truth (fame and wealth too, if we are being cynical). Is it completely stupid or brave? Actors as pathological liars or sociopaths is a salient thought.
The American studios created the film star and it destroys them. Maintaining a lifelong and popular career in such a fickle, »

Today sees the opening of "Surrogates," the futuristic sci-fi allegory based on the hit comic book and starring Bruce Willis. After Robert Pattinson and Dustin Diamond, Willis is by far the most popular actor here in the Newsroom. And while it has a lot to do with his many law-enforcement roles and his totally bizarre relationship with his ex-wife's new husband, at least a fraction of that devotion comes from The Return of Bruno, his debut R&B album from 1987.
Back in '87, Willis was just coming into his own as a gigantic star, as "Moonlighting" was fast becoming the most talked-about show on television (his breakout film role as John McClane in "Die Hard" was still a year off). He parlayed his sudden fame into a gateway into the music world, as he was a tremendous enthusiast of American blues and R&B. The Return of Bruno cast Willis as bartender Bruno Radolini, »

How lucky is Bruce Willis? Not only did he go, seemingly overnight, from tending bar to starring in ABC's hit Moonlighting, marrying Demi Moore, and scoring a Top 10 single, but he also made the transition to movie megastardom -- and then survived the Great Action Hero Purge of the 1990s, jumping to smart indie features (and the occasional blockbuster) while the Stallones and Schwarzeneggers of the industry were left grasping at past glories. And if all that weren't enough, the Planet Hollywood co-founder -- and star of Jonathan Mostow's sci-fi thriller Surrogates -- is also the subject of this »

Cybill Shepherd has been around television her whole life and has been successful in both television and movies. Who can forget Moonlighting, the series that put Bruce Willis on our radars and became the poster-child for how you should never let the sexual tension between two characters lead to romance on a series. It seems that this fall Cybill will be moonlighting on a new show called Eastwick on ABC. She joins the new series that is based on the novel The Witches of Eastwick, by John Updike, and stars Rebecca Romijn, Jaime Ray Newman, and Lindsay Price.
Eastwick follows three very different women who find they suddenly possess very unique powers when a mysterious (and very handsome) man arrives in their small New England town. As their fantasies become reality and they learn about their mystical abilities their small town is turned upside-down.

Nashville-based 821 Entertainment Group and Strike Entertainment have teamed to turn the life of country music icon Hank Williams into a feature film, report the trades. Marc Abraham, a Strike Entertainment partner, will pen the screenplay. Williams ranks high among the most influential country music singer-songwriters, and he lived a life as hard as any character in a country song. After growing up dirt poor in Alabama during the Depression, Williams skyrocketed to fame with 11 No. 1 hits, including classics "Cold, Cold Heart," "Your Cheatin' Heart" and "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry." Williams also suffered from spina bifida, which led him to turn to alcohol and morphine for pain relief. Haunted by demons and bad habits, Williams died in 1953 at age 29. On one side of the estate is singer Hank Williams Jr., and on the other is Jett Williams, the illegitimate daughter of the late singer, born days after he died. »

Bruce Willis is an iconic man of action to males (and females) of a certain age. John McClane from the Die Hard films is probably his trademark role (although some might say it’s David Addison from TV’s Moonlighting) and throughout the last twenty years he has been synonymous with the action genre. That isn’t about to change anytime soon.
Willis has been in discussions to star in no less than three new action films - three new editions to a pending slate that already includes A Couple of Dicks (set to be directed by Kevin Smith) and Kane and Lynch.
The three latest films are serial killer flick Inventory, mobster movie Scarpa and CIA pic Red .
According to The Hollywood Reporter:
“In Inventory, Willis, who is in negotiations for the role, would play a detective on the trail of a murderer.
In Red, Willis would portray a »

Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) on The Mentalist may be one of television's smartest characters but it's going to take him quite awhile before he can solve the Red John case. The series' producer is saving that little tidbit until the series finale. And, what about a relationship between Patrick and Teresa?
The Mentalist premiered on CBS last Fall and emerged as one of the season's only breakout hits. The series revolves around an incredibly observant former conman (Baker) who helps the California Bureau of Investigation (Cbi) solve cases. Aside from Baker, the series features the talents of Robin Tunney, Tim Kang, Owain Yeoman, Amanda Righetti, Gregory Itzin and Maxine Bahns.
The creative brains of The Mentalist have learned a few things from television history, particularly Moonlighting. Though lots of fans of the popular series wanted the main characters (played by Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd) to get together, once it happened many lost interest. »

In ABC's new drama Cupid, romantic leads Claire and Trevor are not a match made in heaven — even if that's literally true in the script.
Trevor Pierce's real name is Cupid, or so he claims. Played by Bobby Cannavale, (Will & Grace, Ally McBeal, Third Watch) Trevor is convinced he's the Roman god of love, never mind that he seems to have misplaced his bow and quiver, and finds himself in a mental hospital after being arrested for rearranging the "Happy New Year" light bulbs in Times Square to read "Holly I'm Here" for a love-struck Irish musician named Dave.
Affably charming, hopelessly romantic, and probably delusional, Trevor announces he's been banned from Mt. Olympus by Zeus, and may only return home after he's helped 100 couples find their love connections.
Trevor is immediately put under the care of Dr. Claire McCrae, played by out actress Sarah Paulson, (The Spirit, Studio 60 on »

While my television tastes may have had a great deal of range in the '80s (everything from Buck Rogers to Living Dolls), few have stuck with me like Moonlighting. Dave and Maddie had the sort of chemistry that many Hollywood pairs could only dream of. Top that with the quirky Agnes Dipesto and goofy Herbert Quentin Viola, and one hell of a great dip into Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew, and you had everything you could want in a detective show ... except a movie remake.
With the current addiction to revisiting '80s themes, it should come as no surprise that there is now talk of a Moonlighting movie (via Variety). However, unlike all of those reimaginings and stories for a new era, this project is being touted as a reunion. Oh, yes! It seems that creator Glenn Gordon Caron wants to reunite Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis for the series' 20th anniversary. »

Actress Rumer Willis loves to dig out her dad Bruce Willis' old Moonlighting episodes - because she has never known her father with hair.
The eldest of three Willis daughters, Rumer admits she and her sisters have spent many happy hours watching their dad on the classic TV series.

"He's still funny. He's working on the hair thing." »
