On August 20, 2017, Jerry Lewis took a pratfall off this mortal coil, presumably knocking an unwitting dowager on her keister and sending a surprised cop into an open manhole on his way out. The durable enfant terrible was all of 91 years when he finally left the building though he had been making spirited public appearances as recently as January of this year.
For the inquisitive Jerry fan, Shawn Levy’s 1997 King of Comedy: The Life and Art of Jerry Lewis, remains the first and last stop for the straight scoop on America’s premiere nudnik. Levy, who endured the full fury of the comedian’s legendary wrath to get his story, is as admiring of his subject’s accomplishments as he was repelled by his whiplash mood swings. The hard knock apprenticeship in the Catskills, the Freudian-fueled soap opera of his partnership with Dean Martin, the boastful sex-capades, they’re all there and then some.

Jerry Lewis is a national treasure! No, strike that, let me correct that…Jerry Lewis is a global treasure. He belongs to the whole world and here is a documentary celebrating all things Jerry Lewis. Tracing his career from the age of five when he first entered show business, (I am not kidding, he was raised in vaudeville and burlesque by his father and mother who were both performers!) to the present day. Much time is devoted to his insane career with the late Dean Martin and his charity work for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. We also see and hear a lot about his legendary run with Paramount Pictures in the 60s when he wrote, directed and starred in a series of box office hit comedies.
Be advised, this is not a warts and all portrait, Lewis himself is credited as the producer of this documentary!

It's no understatement to say Jerry Lewis is a legend in the world of film comedy, with a career spanning more than 60 years and a string of classic performances -- from the original (and best) Nutty Professor to Scorsese's brilliant, dark The King of Comedy -- that have inspired generations of funny men. You don't get too many chances to hang with an icon, so it's exciting to report that Jerry Lewis himself will be appearing at Sydney's Popcorn Taxi on Sunday, September 20; at Greater Union in Bondi Junction.

'This event is a cine phile's dream come true," gushes David Schwartz, dapper chief curator of the Museum of the Moving Image.
He's talking about a museum-sponsored appearance Saturday at 7 p.m. by Jerry Lewis, who will chat with director-author Peter Bogdanovich ("The Last Picture Show") on the stage of the Times Center in Midtown. (The museum, in Queens, is undergoing renovations.)
"Lewis wrote a book about his art called 'The Total Filmmaker,' " Schwartz adds, "and as a director, actor, producer and writer,...
