Goofs for
Friday the 13th (1980)

advertisement
  • Continuity: While Annie is approaching the dog at the gas station, the dog is looking directly at Annie. In the close-up, the dog is looking back behind him as Annie takes off her backpack and starts to talk to the dog.

  • Continuity: As Claudette leaves the cabin, her socks are pulled to her calves. But when she enters the barn with Barry, the top of her socks are folded down so they are just above her ankles.

  • Revealing mistakes: The lightning on Marcie and Jack is merely a yellow light being flashed at their faces; real lightning has a bluish tint.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Claudette and the counselors are singing in the beginning, the music continues after she stop strumming the guitar strings.

  • Continuity: The close up shots of Claudette singing show her legs crossed, but the long shots show her legs spread apart.

  • Revealing mistakes: Outside the diner, it is obviously a fire hose being sprayed back and forth to create the "rain."

  • Continuity: When Steve is talking to Alice outside the cabin, he reaches up and rests his hand on the gutter. After the reverse shot of Alice, his hands are at his sides.

  • Continuity: When Annie trips in the woods and backs up against the tree, her hair and the amount of leaves in it changes in every shot.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Jack gets a spear through his neck, the line between Jack's head and the fake neck is visible.

  • Continuity: When everyone is looking for the snake, first Alice lifts up the sheet, then in the next shot, Marcie lifts up the sheet and Alice is behind her.

  • Continuity: When Alice is scared by Crazy Ralph in the pantry and screams, Marcie and Ned can be seen to enter the room twice.

  • Continuity: Ned is eating a hamburger when he runs to Alice's aid, but the hamburgers aren't cooked until the next scene.

  • Continuity: Just before Jack's death, he is smoking and his arms are in front of him. When it cuts to the side shot of him being stabbed, his arms are stiffly at his sides.

  • Continuity: When Sgt Tierney is giving Steve a ride, he gets a call on the radio. As he replaces the receiver, he flips on the lights. In the next shot, the lights are off and are turned back on again.

  • Continuity: When Alice is alone making coffee, on a table behind her is a blender and a basket of eggs. When Alice returns (after discovering Bill's body) the basket and the blender have switched places.

  • Continuity: When Alice runs into the boathouse to get the gun, there are several pieces of wood leaning on the right side of the boathouse. As Alice opens the door and enters, one piece falls diagonally, but in subsequent shots it is back in its original position.

  • Continuity: When Alice finds Steve's body, his wound has moved from his stomach to his chest.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: Marcie uses the communal bathrooms rather than the sink in the room because of facilities available there other than a sink.

  • Continuity: When Brenda's body falls through the window, she is shown lying on the floor with her face leaning to the right side. Later, when Alice returns to the cabin, Brenda's head is leaning the other way.

  • Continuity: When Jack and Marcie are in bed together, the close-ups show Jack's hand up near Marcie's neck, but in the side shots they are by her body.

  • Continuity: When Alice wakes up on the couch, she is wearing white socks. When she walks into the kitchen to make the coffee, her feet have a dark color (either dark socks or shoes).

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Alice is lying down on the couch and is having a conversation with Bill, we see neither her, or Bill's mouth move.

  • Continuity: When Ralph is leaving on his bike, he passes the same rock in the road twice.

  • Continuity: The van being driven by the killer early in the film (when he gives a lift to the first victim) crosses the same bridge twice.

  • Continuity: After Alice goes back to the cabin and stares at Brenda's body the blood coming from the right side of the chest has changed from the left side when Brenda was originally thrown in.

  • Miscellaneous: When Brenda rolls the dice to start the strip Monopoly game, she says she rolls double sixes and gets to roll again, but you can clearly see the 1 and 2 she actually rolled.

  • Continuity: When Alice runs into one of the houses before Pamela chases her in there, she shuts the blind on the right window next to the door. When she gets chased out of the house, you see the blinds open again.

  • Miscellaneous: In the French translation of the movie, Mrs. Voorhees calls her son Jackie, even if the character is named Jason in the English original version. The translation was corrected in Friday the 13th Part 2.

  • Revealing mistakes: In the last scene, after the nurse gives Alice a shot, she briefly looks directly into the camera.

>>> WARNING: Here Be Spoilers <<<

Goofs below here contain information that may give away important plot points. You may not want to read any further if you've not already seen this title.

  • Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: When Mrs. Vorhees throws Alice onto a table you can see a mattress under it catching her fall.

  • Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: When Alice screams and swings the ax at Mrs. Voorhees, you can tell that she is not really holding the ax.

  • Continuity: SPOILER: Mrs. Voorhees' arm positions change when she is lying on the ground after being hit by Alice's frying pan.

  • Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: Obvious dummy during the climactic decapitation. Alice swings the ax at the left side of Mrs. Voorhees' neck, yet the neck opens up on the right side.

  • Continuity: SPOILER: The hands that reach up and grasp in front of Mrs. Voorhees's neck stump are a pair of man's hands, as evidenced by the hair at the wrists. (In fact, these hands belonged to special FX assistant Taso N. Stavrakis).

  • Continuity: SPOILER: When Alice opens the door to hide in the pantry, you can see on the outside that there is no knob, just a black hole. But once Mrs. Voorhees chops through the door, you can clearly see a white knob on the outside

  • Factual errors: SPOILER: The date in the beginning says June. In the end, if you look at the trees, and the reflection in the pond before Jason grabs Alice, it appears to be Autumn.

  • Revealing mistakes: SPOILER: When Mrs. Voorhees' head is cut off, toothpicks are visible sticking out of the stump of her neck. This is because toothpicks were used to hold the false head in place before the machete knocks it off.
