The Foywonder's Ten Worst Horror Films of the Decade

The first decade of the new millennium has come to an end, and that means it is now time for film sites all over the web to begin posting their various retrospectives and lists recalling the decade that was. I generally as a rule dislike such lists because they are always so subjective. Then I said screw it and took it upon myself to do one of my own naming the ten worst horror movies of the past decade. Besides, people love bitching on the Internet about lists like this, and who am I to deny readers yet another excuse to get into pointless flame wars over personal opinions.

Of course, this list is just my personal opinion which is not legally binding ... unless Proposition 304 passes. And we all pray that it will.

The first that I heard of Frank Henenlotter was on a perfectly awful cable tv show that aired on Manhattan's Public Access channel in the 1970s.

"The Nikki Haskell Show" was a self-indulgent half-hour cable show hosted by Haskell, a wealthy socialite-divorcee and former stockbroker who now claims that her show marked the invention of "reality television." About a year ago, after her diet pill company got in trouble with the NFL over a "secret ingredient" that should have been labeled, Haskell signed up for an account at YouTube and started posting clips from the 30-year-old program, but she seems to have lost interest after posting just ten of them.

Trinity Of Terrors - Happening Now in Las Vegas!

The first-ever Fangoria Trinity Of Terrors has officially taken over the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, becoming The Place you want to spend your Halloween! Its 1:31am Vegas time as I type this and the party is continuing downstairs as Halloween has officially arrived in the city of Sin.

Opening night was a blast here, packed with film screenings, celebrity guests (including some unannounced surprises), horror, freaks, and rock. And to top it off, we're broadcasting the demonic debauchery Live!

Today on her Huffington Post Blog, Jamie Lee Curtis (best known to horror fans as the original Lori Strode in John Carpenter's Halloween, as well as the star of thr original The Fog, Prom Night and Terror Train), shows us she's actually very anti-horror on Halloween.

Her desire to 'tone down' the gore on halloween, especially when it comes to kids, just really gets my panties in a twisted, bleeding bunch.

Before I launch into the conclusion of my 50 Influential Scream Queens (read part 1 here), please let me remind you that this list is based upon my personal taste, and my personal taste alone. I didn't poll 100 Fango readers, the Fango staff or any other form of 'industry professionals'. It's all opinion, so if you feel I've wronged a certain actress by excluding them from the list, don't leap to brand the entire Fango crew 'vile'.  I probably just don't personally find their work to be that influential. Either that or I'm just ignorant to their accomplishments!

25. Mia Farrow: Mia's genre work may be a bit limited, but that doesn't change the fact that Rosemary's Baby will forever be regarded as one of the creepiest films in history. Farrow's portrayal of Rosemary Woodhouse is harrowing to say the least, and will always remain (in my mind) one of the best performances the genre has seen. »

Given man's unwavering fascination with woman, it's no surprise that the female star acts as the anchor to a dominant portion of horror pictures. I mean really, who wants to see a bare chested man tearin ass through the woods screaming at the top of his lungs while a bladed assailant nips at his heels? I don't - I know that much, although I'm certain there are plenty of men who would disagree (and that's okay with me, to each his own!). The simple fact remains however, women bring a unique appeal and certain sensual atmosphere to film that no man ever could. And it's not all about gratuitous T&A.

There's a comforting quality in the hands of the heroine; a fascinating maternal strength that, as a man I cannot genuinely relate to. I can however admire, and in many cases it's nearly impossible to not admire the lone »

I didn't think I'd ever see it.  I thought it couldn't be done.  I considered it impossible.  But my friends at the Texas Frightmare have pulled off the biggest guest in all of conventions.

John Carpenter.

I don't know how Tfw got him, but John Carpenter will be at their 2010 show.  Read that again.  John Carpenter.  Director of some of the greatest horror films of all time.  Halloween.  The Thing.  Escape From New York.  Big Trouble In Little China.  His earlier efforts read like a litany of horror's most accomplished films.  For the covention-goer, it doesn't get any bigger than this.

Halloween (1978) It's Halloween, everyone's entitled to one good scare. Why We Love It This film scared the poop out of nearly everyone who saw it. If it didn't scare you when you were a kid, you probably grew up to be a serial killer (in which case the movie initially played like an instructional video for you). With October gently nipping at our heels, I feel it's the perfect time to celebrate the genius of this horror classic. Halloween reinvented the slasher film even as the genre was in its infancy. John Carpenter created a landscape of pure terror that feels inescapably tangible. Nothing in this film resides outside the realm of possibility and the honesty of the violence is striking. The 10 Sexiest Scream Queens

One of the things I love best about the internet is that people post movie-related lists and then other people get to comment on all the things the lists did wrong (or, sometimes, did right). Today, in anticipation of this week's Sorority Row, Moviefone posted a list of the ten sexiest scream queens. It's a fun list, and it's wise enough to go all the way back to Fay Wray (King Kong) and Janet Leigh (Psycho), and it includes two essentials: Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween) and Marilyn Burns (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre). It also includes Shannon Elizabeth, a dubious choice for films like Jack Frost, 13 Ghosts and Cursed (although I'm glad someone has thrown Cursed back into the ring; it's silly but it's also sexy, well-acted and very sharply directed by Wes Craven).

Exclusive Interview: The 4th Reich Director Shaun Robert Smith

You may not have heard of The 4th Reich yet, but soon you’ll be hearing much more along with news of the film’s director, Shaun Robert Smith.

The film, which begins production in April, is the first feature film from Smith, whose short film The Soldier displayed an excellent knack of cinematography and suspense.

It also won a small boatload of awards and gained a national theatrical release in the UK.

"Fear Itself" should be pretty fresh in your minds considering it's hitting DVD soon with some very bitchin' artwork. The short-lived show was like the unofficial third season of "Masters of Horror".
