Originally shot as a television pilot, it was shown as a stand-alone movie and the aeries was never picked up.
Two of the character actors appearing had worked together a decade earlier in the episode of Star Trek (1966) titled The Return of the Archons (1967). Charles Macaulay had played the projection of the god-like "Landru" character who had lived centuries before, with Sid Haig playing the robed and unrecognizable First Lawgiver (among many) forcing the episode planet's inhabitants to be unquestionably faithful to the savagely violent ways of life that Landru was made to represent.
