All similarities to the contrary, this is Not Steve McQueen...Love your website, although I have one question regarding your banner. Who is the guy pointing the gun (the guy between Raquel Welch and Christopher Lee)? I used to think it was Dr. Cornelius from Planet of the Apes... Is it McQueen? If it is McQueen it's a very unflattering picture... It's driving me crazy.
Other than that, your website is great. RomuloRetro responds: First, thank you for your kind words and for being a loyal reader. In fact, the image of the guy pointing the gun in our masthead graphic is indeed Steve McQueen, as depicted on a European release poster for Bullitt. Now, Romulo, we will admit it might not be the most life-like portrait of the iconic star...and we can understand confusing the image with that of another actor--but frickin' Cornelius from Planet of the Apes? »

Washington - The Us actor John Quade, who played mean and nasty characters in movies including several Clint Eastwood films, died at age 71, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday. His best known roles were in Papillon, with Steve McQueen; The Sting, with Robert Redford; and Eastwood's High Plains Drifter. Quade's wife, Gwen Saunders, told the Times that her husband was a gentle soul 'but he looked mean and nasty.' 'He looked like he could do murder and mayhem at any moment, but he was a big teddy bear - the kind that he just loved little kids, but they were always afraid of him,' she was quoted as saying. She said Eastwood 'hired him »

- Sony Pictures sees some box office potential in The Experiment. The studio picked up the rights to the pic currently in production, and I imagine this will go the Screen Gems route and be marketed towards the hoards of young male viewers (the 18-25 demo) and perhaps the older generation who remember Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman in Franklin J. Schaffner's Papillon or those who miss the Alcatraz pics. Less of a prison escape film and more of a psychological drama/thriller, the lets play dress up experiment was already made into a hit German film and is being lensed by a filmmaker who knows a thing or two about working in tight spaces, concrete walls, barbed wire and cell life. Having seen the original, personally I'm hoping that Prison Break director Paul Scheuring goes all out with this - "Gitmo" style. THR also reports that Elijah Wood »

You know who was a cool guy 600 years ago? Steve McQueen. He was in a bunch of movies. Most stunk, but a few were good (The Cincinnati Kid, The Great Escape and Papillon comes to mind, and The Towering Inferno for a laugh, I guess, sure.) The Hollywood Reporter reports that there are two separate biopics in the works. I say, “ugh.” »

While it's probably past due, a biopic focusing on the life of legendary actor Steve McQueen is in the works. The epitome of old-school Hollywood cool (and a personal idol), McQueen was perhaps as well-known for his wild off-screen proclivities (motorcycles, cars, women, booze, drugs) as his celebrated roles in films like The Great Escape, Papillon, The Thomas Crown Affair, Bullitt, The Getaway, The Towering Inferno and The Magnificent Seven. The movie will be based on Marshall Terrill's »
