- Plot holes: SPOILER: When Caine and the old man are being held prisoner in the tent at night, the old man attempts an escape and one of the guards shoots him in the back. Moments later, after Caine has overpowered the guards and begins sneaking out of the prisoner's tent, we cut to a shot of Dillon (Barry Sullivan), sleeping in a separate tent only a few feet away. At the barely perceptible sound of Caine exiting the prisoner's tent, Dillion suddenly wakes up and grabs a gun. True, Dillon may be a very sound sleeper, but shouldn't a deafening gunshot less than 20 feet away have awakened him first (as well as the rest of Dillion's men), and not the sound of Caine quietly making his escape?
