When they are walking by the cows he's telling her about all the stuff he read in her letters and she's wearing a short skirt with a pink blouse. Then they show them from the back in a far away shot as they walking away from the cows and their clothing has changed to the ones they were wearing when they were flying the kite.
The film's penultimate shot, that of Pookie looking out the bus window, was shot with the camera attached to the outside of the moving bus, but no one apparently thought about the trees lining the street behind the camera. The visual is shaken for a second after tree branches inadvertently brush up against the equipment.
Jerry Payne twice refers to roommate Charlie Schumacher as
"Charlie Schoonover." The character's name in the novel was "Harry Schoonover."
In Pookie's written rants against the weirdos of the world, the word is always spelled "wierdo."
