The title is a pun on that of the 1940 hit song "PEnnsylvania Six-Five Thousand" by Glenn Miller, who quoted what is still today the phone number of his home venue at the time, the Hotel Pennsylvania in Manhattan.
Bugs uses "Newport News," an independent Virginia port city founded in 1896, as a magical phrase and turns the pesky vampire into frequently used character Witch Hazel.
The door chimes play a spooky old tune, "The Worms Crawl In, the Worms Crawl Out..."
Two of the books on the shelf in Bugs' room are 'Rise and Fall of the Roman Vampire' and 'Embalmers Almanac', plays on 'Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire' and 'Farmers' Almanac', respectively.
