- Father: I thought you were going to keep a budget?
- Dori: I did. But, it didn't stay kept.
- Father: May I see it?
- [Dori hands it to her Father]
- Father: Ah-huh. Ice cream. Candy. Magazines. Juke Box - 40 cents. EP - 60 cents. EP? What's that?
- Dori: Elvis Presley!
- Father: I still say: what's that?
- Dori: Father, you're sweet; but, so square. I played Elvis Presley records on the juke box.
- Father: You already have an item down here for playing the juke box. Why don't you put them both together?
- Dori: Well, it would look like I spent too much money for just one thing.
- Father: Louise, there hasn't been one week that she hasn't run out of her allowance. She has no idea of the value of money. Look at this! Look! Wait. Look, bills! Bills! Nothing but bills! Bills for clothes. Bills for hats. Bills for all sorts of things! Louise, we've got to teach that girl that money doesn't grow on Fathers!

- Alan Freed: Gang, you all remember Maybellene, about the young man with the guitar who couldn't catch her with his car. Well, here he is to tell us all about it, with a brand new automobile, Chuck Berry and "You Can't Catch Me!"
- Chuck Berry: [singing] I bought a brand new air-mobile, It was custom made, It was a Flight DeVille, With an outboard motor, And some hideaway wings, Push in on the button and you can hear her sing, Now you can't catch me, Baby, you can't catch me, Cause if you get too close, You know I'm gone like a coooooooool breeze...
- Chuck Berry: [singing] New Jersey Turnpike in the wee wee hours, I was rolling slowly 'cause of drizzlin' showers, Here come a flattop he was movin' up with me, Then come wavin' goodbye, In a little old souped up jitney, I put my foot in my tank and I began to roll, Moanin' sirens, was the state patrol, So I let out my wings and I blew my horn, Bye-bye New Jersey I become airborne, Now you can't catch me, Baby you can't catch me...

- Arabella: [sipping shakes at the malt shoppe] Is Tommy taking you to the school prom?
- Dori: He - hasn't asked me, yet.
- Arabella: He will. I sure hope I find someone as nice as Tommy.
- Dori: Oh, you'll meet him someday.
- Arabella: Well, I hope it's before the prom. Are you in love with Tommy?
- Dori: Well...
- [singing]
- Dori: I never had a sweetheart, No Lovers Lane for me! No moonlight rides, No firesides, No romance by the sea, Oh no, that's never happened to me! I never had a sweetheart...

- Mr. Bimble: A bank makes money by giving loans - to responsible people, who have collateral - and charging interests on the loans.
- Dori: How much interest do you charge?
- Mr. Bimble: Six percent.
- Dori: That's awfully high, isn't it?
- Mr. Bimble: Six percent interest is standard.
- Dori: It is?
- Mr. Bimble: Yes!
- Gloria: What do you think the school would think of a girl who took advantage of one of her own classmates?
- Alan Freed: All right, let's get this Prom rocking with Jimmy Cavallo & the House Rockers and "Rock Rock Rock!"

- Alan Freed: Rock-n-roll is a river of music - which has absorbed many streams. Rhythm and Blues. Jazz. Ragtime. Cowboy songs. Country songs. Folk songs. All have contributed greatly to the big beat.
- Alan Freed: Now, let's get into a real happy mood, with a twiddly-dee girl, La Vern Baker and "Tra la la."
- Jimmy Cavallo and the House Rockers: [singing] Tra la la, Tra la la, You're as sweet as a candy bar...
