This film was released in 1947, the same year that the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) first convened, and its casual attitude toward interracial friendships and jazz music in general likely played a role in one of its screenwriters, Herbert J. Biberman, being named as one of the infamous "Hollywood Ten", Tinsel Town creatives who refused to cooperate with the Committee and pled their Fifth Amendment rights rather than name friends and coworkers as "fellow Communists".
Richard Hageman (Henry Ferber) was an accomplished musician and conductor: in every scene showing him playing the piano, he actually is playing, all the correct notes.
