Edgar's Plans Go Up The Chimney
Edgar Kennedy wants to go for the beach for his vacation, so he winds up in the mountains, building a chimney for his cabin, while bother-in-law Dot Farley and brother-in-law Jack Rice heckling his efforts. Even building inspector Walter Brennan has some uncomplimentary things to mime in this fine entry in Kennedy's long-running 'The Average Man' series for RKO.
This one is filled with lots of sight gags pulled out of silent films. That's not surprising, given it's directed by Sam White, brother of silent producer Jack White and producer-director Jules White. They were cousins to Zion Meyers and the actress Carmel Myers, and their entry into the movies began when D.W. discussed the background for his film INTOLERANCE with their rabbinical father. Miss Myers got a small role in the picture, and cousin Jack was soon in the editing booth, rising to producer by the early 20s, in charge of Educational Pictures' fine panoply of comedy shorts. The others soon followed. Sam's career was longer-lasting than anyone else. In the 1960s, he was still directing for the TV show THE OUTER LIMITS. He died in 2006, aged 99.
