(1929) Hollywood supporting player and fashion icon Louise Brooks is the sensual, vital, innocent Lulu in G.W. Pabst's classic adaptation of two Frank Wedekind plays, a classic of German silent cinema. The new Criterion DVD, mastered from a restored print from the Munich Film Museum, features four distinctively different musical scores: an orchestral score by Gillian Anderson, a cabaret score by Dimitar Pentchev, a modern orchestral score by longtime Fassbinder collaborator Peer Raben (commissioned for a screening at the 1997 Berlin Film Festival), and an improvised piano score by Stephan Oliva. The second disc features Hugh Munro Neeley's 1998 documentary Louise Brooks: Looking For Lulu and the 1984 filmed interview Lulu in Berlin by Richard Leacock and Susan Woll, among other supplements.
