As his reward, Harold gets promoted back to his home village as Postmaster.

Due to his unhappiness with his life, the main protagonists' only solace is his mind. He dreams up situations that he believes are better to be in other than the ones he is in. Almost underestimating the extremity of what he's day dreaming. He believes he would rather be homeless than have a job and he'd rather be dead than be loved. All characters presented in this film are an extremity of what they really are. Supporting this delusion the main protagonist has towards his life. He makes excuses for how cowardly he is - something we all could relate to.
