Alan Styles Kaul was born and raised in Spokane, Washington. A graduate of Whitworth college, he began his television career at KREM-TV in Spokane. A few years later, he moved to KING-TV in Seattle to produce evening broadcasts. While there, Alan earned his MA in communications at the University of Washington and taught journalism classes to undergraduates. In the 1970's Kaul moved to Los Angeles where he began his 33 year career at NBC News. He started at KNBC (Channel 4) where he produced the local evening news for Jess Marlow, Kelly Lange and Paul Moyer. He also produced Dr. Art Ulene's medical show on KNBC. Kaul eventually moved upstairs to NBC Network News where he spent the rest of his life working as a network journalist and producer. At one point, Alan was hired by director James Bridges to consult on the film, "The China Syndrome," with Jane Fonda and Michael Douglas. He wrote, edited and produced all of Jane's news copy for the movie and also played the part of the broadcast director in the film. He also collaborated with Alan Pakula on another Fonda film, "Rollover"(1981). He was presented with numerous awards including Two Golden Mics, the Russell Cecil Writing Award, two Edward R. Murrow Awards for his specials "The Arrest of the Snipers" and "The Death of Mother Teresa," and an Overseas Press Club of America award for "Best TV Spot News Reporting from Abroad" for NBC's "Crisis in Kosovo: The Last Week."- Richard Boston was born on 29 December 1938 in Blackheath, London, England, UK.
