Trivia:
Whilst filming at the Park Lane Hotel, on Park Lane in London, some 30 extras had to be called in at short notice when the production team noticed the frequency of passing red double-decker buses, a common enough occurrence in London, but not in New York, where the scene is set. The extras were used outside the hotel to try to block the buses out. moreGoofs:
Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Tom claims to have invented the paper cup sleeve when in reality it was invented by a man in California named Jim Chelossi. moreSoundtrack:

My mother and I went to watch this movie together on opening night, and truly enjoyed it. We both left saying--"We've got to get this one!" We enjoy our "chick flick" nights, whether at home or at the theater, and it's always nice to find a new one we like, to break up the monotony of all the ones we've watched and rewatched till they're practically memorized.
Granted that the plot was not perfectly original, which seems to be the biggest source of antagonism against this movie. I could tell from the previews alone that it would be very similar to other movies, but then again, if you like devil's food chocolate cake, that doesn't mean that German chocolate cake can't be good too, even though they're essentially both chocolate and both cake. I thought that they pulled off the plot with it's own flair and likability, so, while perhaps similar in certain elements, it still stands on its own two feet.
I also will admit that I have seen better made productions, but when it comes to romantic comedy, I'm not really judging the camera work or the intellectual depth of the movie--I'll save those considerations for action adventures or dramas. A romantic comedy ought to make you smile, make you laugh, tug a little at your heart, make you want to root for your hero/heroine, and come out of the movie feeling blissfully able to believe there is such thing as love and happily ever afters. This movie, in my opinion, accomplishes this.
I liked the actors; I thought there was pretty good chemistry; the supporting characters did a decent job; the dialogue was entertaining; and the plot is able to maintain your interest throughout the duration. All in all it was a fun, well-spent evening.
I gave this a 7 out of 10, only because I'm taking into account the many aspects of movie quality; but if I were to rate it simply in the qualifications of a romantic comedy, I'd say it gets a 9 out of 10!
