Review
See No Evil is brainless and mean, with a predisposition to over-the-top cruelty that its hardcore wrestling fan base are sure to eat up. Seen in this light, the movie works. It's exactly the kind of stereotypical trash that has been rehashed for decades, but with the exception that this time, the main character really is the killer -- in this case, bald-headed baby-faced wrestler entertainer Kane. The script spends a lot of time with the character and even dares to stretch his acting chops in a late revelation that gives the last 3rd of the flick its Friday the 13th-inspired propulsion. Leading up to that is a confused bag of plot that never lets the audience get its bearing thanks to the early demise of what was clearly supposed to be the main character. In fact, if the film's got anything, it's that the audience is never given any clue as to which victim will be next. Refreshingly, there are no standard slasher stereotypes being wafted around, though too bad the main gist of the story is as ludicrous as they come. Another big thing that hurts the film is that it's not scary, nor is the hulking Kane as Jacob Goodnight, whose absurd name is never once mentioned in the film. For all of its faults, the flick does feature one of the craziest villain deaths ever put to screen -- a big feat for a film that tried so little the rest of the time. Ex-porn/music video director Gregory Dark adds much Saw/Se7en-inspired atmosphere and cutting, which will date the whole affair terribly in time -- not that many will care either way. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, All Movie Guide
