Product Description
From Amazon.com
Comparisons to Forrest Gump have saddled The Truman Show: the nebulously cheerful protagonist, the Tupperware set design, the Big Picture conceit. But those parallels dissolve when the soundtrack album commences. This is no brand-inducing pop-song nostalgia trip; it's an authentic document of The Truman Show's musical imperative, a mix of percolating minimalism and sweeping orchestrations that imbue the film with its atmosphere of apocrypha and fable. Composers Burkhard Dallwitz and Philip Glass share the responsibility. Dallwitz gets the opening theme; Glass, the anthems (borrowed from previous scores) and much of the finale. One highlight is "Truman Sleeps," Glass's solo-piano on-screen cameo. The eccentric closing track, a rockabilly remake of T. Rex's "Twentieth Century Boy," couldn't be more true to director Peter Weir's populist vision. --Marc Weidenbaum

5.0 out of 5 stars Both Powerful and Mellow, Aug 2 2001
The Truman show soundtrack has won many awards, and I can honestly say it's for a good reason. This music does not have a moment when you do not feel something in the music. Because you don't really hear the music, you FEEL it. The music is emotion. You feel the power of ambition, the instability of confusion, and the bliss of happiness. I rarely buy a soundtrack just to listen to it, but I did for this one. Even if you haven't seen the movie, you still see Truman's life through the music. I found when i saw the movie that the music not only enhanced the movie, it became a part of it. I noticed the music. And for that reason I bought the soundtrack. And whenever I play it, Truman Burbank's mind comes alive once again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Also check out Powaqquatsi, Dec 25 2003
By "rhruss" (Richmond, CA USA) - See all my reviews
I recently bought the wonderful documentary "Powaqquatsi" and am now watching it. Much to my surprise, alot of the music (also by Phillip Glass) is EXACTLY the same as "Truman Show". Obviously the music for "Powaqquatsi" came first as the film came out in 1988.

If you're a fan of "Truman Show" also check out "Powaqquatsi". If nothing else it's interesting to see how identical music can be used in very different ways. There's also a fair bit of new music in the same vein that is unique to this film (or so I think).

BTW: The soundtrack for "Truman Show" and the film are highly recommended.

(REAL NAME)
Peter Wier did a wonderful job in collecting music that fit the story just wonderfully creating one of the most beautiful soundtracks to a film in years. This has an amazing collection of Phillip Glass music plus some others that really fit the story of truman like a glove!
