Diaz Dating Mayer?

Rocker John Mayer has cooled rumors he is dating Dedication star Mandy Moore by romancing Theres Something About Mary actress Cameron Diaz over dinner. The couple were spotted enjoying an intimate dinner at New York eaterie Indochine and, according to spies, were "very playful and cozy." A source tells New York gossip column Page Six the couple "met years ago at a concert (but) their relationship just started." The actress is currently filming the comedy What Happens In Vegas opposite Ashton Kutcher.

Tisdale Dismisses Hudgens Feud

Singer/actress Ashley Tisdale has dismissed reports of a rift between her and her High School Musical 2 co-star Vanessa Anne Hudgens, insisting the two are "bestest friends." The 22-year-old star has long been rumored to be a rival of 18-year-old Hudgens, but Tisdale claims the press have it all wrong. She tells the New York Daily News, "People always try to compare me and Vanessa to each other, and it's so weird. We're always laughing when people pit us against one another in magazines, like 'Vanessa versus Ashley: The Feud!' We call each other twin sisters. She's one of my closest and bestest friends."

Turturro To Self-Distribute 'Romance & Cigarettes'

Actor-director John Turturro will distribute his movie Romance & Cigarettes with his own money, after a studio takeover left it on the scrap-head. The musical was made in 2004 with an ensemble cast including James Gandolfini, Kate Winslet, Susan Sarandon, Steve Buscemi and Christopher Walken. Its future was thrown into jeopardy before it could be released when MGM was bought by a consortium headed by Sony in 2005. It was released in the U.K. in 2006, but has been left in limbo in the U.S. as the filmmakers attempt to unravel a legal mess so the film can be seen by the American public. Sony Pictures claims it has video rights for the movie and MGM has theatrical rights - but a source claims Turturro has secured the film's release so it can go on show at New York's Film Forum from September 7, at his own expense.

Heche Wants More Child Time

Actress Anne Heche has filed a request to change child custody arrangements between herself and estranged husband Coley Laffoon. At present, the Volcano star must give her ex two weeks' notice when she plans to spend time with their five-year-old son, Homer. But Heche wants to change that, and instead be required to give a fortnight's notice if she doesn't plan to see the child, according to court documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday. She contends, "Occasionally I have breaks in my work schedule that would permit me to travel to Los Angeles for up to four days. I request an order that when one of these breaks occurs, I may spend the time with Homer in Los Angeles on seven days advance notice to Coley. I never have more than seven days advance notice of such breaks and therefore cannot give more notice." Heche is currently shooting the second season of TV series Men In Trees in Vancouver, Canada. During Wednesday's hearing, Laffoon agreed to move out of the Los Angeles home the couple once shared by September 2. Heche has been granted joint legal custody of her son and will spend every other weekend with Homer when she's in Los Angeles, where the youngster attends school. Heche was also ordered to pay $15,000-a-month in child and spousal support - and pay for 90 per cent of the cost of Homer's private-school tuition, medical bills and extracurricular activities.

Winehouse Cancels August Engagements

British singer Amy Winehouse has cancelled all her live performances for the rest of August to allow her time to recover after collapsing last week. The star has decided to call off her European tour dates to focus on her "health issues." Winehouse collapsed following three days of hard partying last week and was admitted to a London hospital. Her spokeswoman Tracey Miller tells website People.com, "Amy Winehouse is putting all her touring commitments for this month on hold until further notice in order to address her health issues... On Wednesday, Fielder-Civil's mother Georgette Civil told British newspaper the Daily Mirror the singer had admitted that both she and her spouse were using heroin and cocaine.

Murphy To Sue Brown

Eddie Murphy is threatening legal action against former lover Melanie Brown, accusing the Spice Girl of extortion and defamation. The actor's legal team have issued a cease and desist against Brown, demanding she stops using his name in press interviews. In a letter to the star, Murphy accuses Brown of "disseminating disparaging, negative and defamatory statements" and making highly "unreasonable extortionate demands" regarding the care of their daughter Angel Iris. According to Murphy's lawyer Marty Singer, Brown demanded he buy her a $9 million home in Malibu, California and allow her to live in it for the next 18 years. Brown and Murphy are embroiled in a bitter battle over child support payments for their four-month-old daughter.

Nicole Richie's boyfriend Joel Madden is preparing to propose to the pregnant socialite - he confessed to TV personality Regis Philbin live on his show on Thursday. Philbin coaxed the secret out of Madden when the rocker and his band Good Charlotte appeared on Live! With Regis and Kelly. While quizzing the 28-year-old about his relationship with Richie, he asked, "You're going to present her, maybe, with... A little ring, or something?" A shocked Madden replied, "I was hoping it would be a surprise, but now..." Philbin quickly changed the subject and began probing Madden's twin bandmate Benji about his love life. Actress/singer Jessica Simpson has denied reports she plans to adopt a child from a Mexican orphanage she has been visiting since she was a teenager. In a recent interview with Self magazine, Simpson was quoted as saying, "The first time I went to that orphanage I was 16. I remember holding this baby who was found in a dumpster. I wanted to adopt him right then and there... I want to adopt before I actually have my own kids." However, Simpson's spokeswoman Lauren Auslander tells website TheCelebrityTruth.com, "This is not true. She supports an orphanage in Mexico, but she has no plans to adopt a baby at the time."
