Update: Murphy's body has been transported to Forest Lawn in anticipation of the Dec. 24 burial. _____________________________ Sadly, Christmas is an afterthought for Brittany Murphy's grief-stricken family. E! News has learned that the Girl, Interrupted star will be laid to rest on Christmas Eve at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills, five days after her untimely death left Hollywood reeling. The funeral and burial service are said to be "strictly private." No word who will attend or whether a public memorial is in the works for after the holiday. Jersey Shore: Fellow Italian-American Reality Star Weighs In
4 hours ago
If the Jersey Shore stars are ever feeling a bit beat up from being trashed by fellow Italian-Americans, they should take a trip to see Cake Boss star Buddy Valastro at his Hoboken bakery. The master baker tells me he's not put off by their antics or what critics say promotes negative stereotypes. "Being Italian-American, I'm not like, 'Oh, my god. I'm so offended by it," Valastro says. "It's taken out of context." Valastro admits he hasn't watched an episode yet of the MTV reality series, but… "I was on the Jersey Shore," he says. "My buddies and I had a house in Seaside Heights. We lived there for the summer. So I know what that scene is like and I »
Bad Timing Alert! Chilling Brittany Murphy Movie Art Pulled
4 hours ago
It's an eerie and tragic example of life imitating art. In a dreadful case of bad timing, Brittany Murphy's sudden death on Sunday has forced the DVD rental company Redbox to yank box art images from its kiosks nationwide for the actress's latest film, Deadline. The cover shows the 32-year-old's character lying lifeless in a bathtub. Murphy, of course, collapsed in the bathroom of her Hollywood Hills home Sunday morning and, after unsuccessful attempts by family and paramedics to revive her, was pronounced dead at the hospital. And that sent Redbox scrambling when it realized what was on the cover of the straight-to-dvd horror thriller. "We are removing the »
No Simon, No Problem? Fox Still Wants More Idol
4 hours ago
The show must go on—even without its snarky, British center of attention, apparently. Despite the news from a seemingly solid source (it was the guy's brother, for goodness' sake!) that Simon Cowell plans to end his stint as a judge on American Idol after the upcoming 2010 season, the show's ninth, Fox is reportedly willing to go on without him. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the network and Idol producers FremantleMedia and 19 Entertainment are close to inking a deal that will keep the still-chugging talent show on the air for another three seasons. That's three seasons after their current contract ends in 2011, mind you... Fox refused to comment, and Cowell »

The clothes-minded critiques begin with Fashion Police: The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards, Jan. 18. Joining Rivers on the red carpet beat will be E! Mother-in-Law "Absolutely Devastated" by Brittany Murphy's Death
5 hours ago
It's more than any mom can bear. Brittany Murphy's mother-in-law, Linda Monjack, tells E! News today that she is "absolutely devastated" by the shocking death of her daughter-in-law. Monjack, a therapist who lives in England, says she is scrambling to make arrangements to fly to Los Angeles so she can be by the side of her son, Simon Monjack, for the funeral tomorrow. "Depends if I can get the flight," she says. Linda Monjack, who attended the couple's nuptials in 2007, would be able to put her training as a bereavement counselor to good use. Asked if she knew if her daughter-in-law was suffering from any maladies that might have triggered cardiac »

Preview Brittany Murphy's Final Film, Abandoned
7 hours ago
Abandoned will be known as Brittany Murphy's final film. Shot back in June, she stars as a woman searching for her husband (Dean Cain) after he mysteriously disappears from a hospital following surgery. Of course, it's way harder than just a normal missing-person search because no one believes her due to her history of psychiatric issues. Just look at that doctor in the 45-second clip above giving her a hard time. Speaking out to Extra, the film's director, Michael Feifer, counters rumors that Brittany was difficult to work with. "She glowed all the time," he remembers. "I had a really sweet relationship with her. She was always on the »

Brittany Murphy: Music From Beyond the Grave?
Brittany Murphy may be cutting a record deal. Though Murphy was famous for her acting, her musical résumé is pretty impressive, too. Just three years ago, she and Paul Oakenfeld hit the charts with the club song "Faster Kill Pussycat." She also sang covers of Queen's "Somebody to Love" and Earth, Wind & Fire's "Boogie Wonderland" in Happy Feet, the 2006 animated flick costarring Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Robin Williams and Elijah Wood. Sources tell me that music executives have already started to do some digging to find any unreleased songs Murphy may have recorded over the years... "Obviously this isn't a Michael Jackson thing, but people »
Rate-a-Trailer: Are You Karate Kidding Us?
A new twist on Chinese knockoffs. It's bad enough that China is kicking our collective backside in the global economy, but now some Beijing bullies are messing with Will Smith's son Jaden in this remake of The Karate Kid! Luckily, Jackie Chan (in the Pat Morita role) is there to save America, or something. Did we really need this? No. But does anybody need counterfeits of garish Louis Vuitton bags? Another big no. And yet people buy them. Who are we to judge? Let us know in the comments section if the physical comedy genius of Jackie Chan will make this worth a look in June of 2010. Or does this trailer suddenly make you miss Ralph Macchio? »
Star Trek Wasn't Snubbed—and That's the Problem
10 hours ago
The Dark Knight was snubbed. Star Trek is being ignored. To be snubbed during awards season is to show up at Oscar's club with all the right clothes, cologne and credentials, and be barred from the VIP room—just like The Dark Knight was, save its nomination (and eventual win) for Heath Ledger. To be ignored is worse. Welcome to Star Trek's universe. When the Golden Globe nominations were announced last week, it didn't occur to us, not once, to see how many nods Star Trek did or didn't get. And when we compiled a list of movies judged to have been snubbed by Globe voters it didn't occur to us, not until a reminder, to include Star Trek. Was this because »
Rate-a-Trailer: The Sex and the City 2 Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
20 hours ago
Well, judging by the first trailer for next year's Sex and the City 2, it doesn't look as if Sarah Jessica Parker & Co. have done anything to muck up the resolutions arrived at in the first film. Actually, going by this, it doesn't look as if the label-mad fab foursome at the center of the saga do much of anything new. In fact, stills from the movie show that Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte are going back in time. But according to the omniscient Carrie Bradshaw, "things you thought would never happen in a million years" have taken place in the two years since Mr. Big made an honest woman of her. And we know that none other than Miley Cyrus, Penélope Cruz, Tim Gunn and »
No Tour Planned for So You Think You Can Dance's Season-Six Top 10
22 December 2009 5:37 PM, PST
So You Think You Can Dance season six turned out to have a few more rough edges than perhaps the producers and dancers would have liked. Several members of the top 20 were so seriously injured that they had to drop out or stop out (Billy, Noelle, Ashleigh), the final was hosted on the home stage rather than in the glamorous confines of the Kodak Theatre, the top four were fluffed up into a top six for lack of time and now comes the news that the victory tour is probably canceled. What? Is it true that there's no tour on deck for season six's top 10 dancers? Here's what we're hearing... Top-eight finalist Mollee Gray broke the news on her Twitter this afternoon. She tweeted, "I just heard »
Jersey Shore Star: "I'm Really Smart!"
22 December 2009 3:43 PM, PST
Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola wants you to know that just because she's on Jersey Shore does not mean she's a girl without a brain. "People watching the show wouldn't expect me to be going to college," Sweetheart says. "I'm a student. I'm really smart. I'm artistic. I'm unique. They just see the party side." And the drama-queen side, too... Within in a very short amount of time living in the Seaside Heights house, Sammi did some cozy flirting with The Situation, only to drop him after realizing she's way more into resident bulk of beef, Ronnie. Even so, Sammi and Ronnie are not without their troubles. In one episode, muscleman Ronnie goes all »
Could the Vampire Craze Resurrect Moonlight?
22 December 2009 3:27 PM, PST
Don't know if you've heard, but vampires are all the rage these days. With the success of Twilight, True Blood and The Vampire Diaries, bloodsuckers have taken over popular culture. It seems like anything involving creatures of the night is guaranteed to bring beaucoup bucks to the company producing it. Too bad, then, for CBS that it canceled cult-hit series Moonlight for low ratings just as the full wave of vampire mania was hitting. But wait, if Moonlight was canceled way back when, why are rumors flying that it might come back? I've gotten many emails from you fans lately asking about this talk, and here's what I'm hearing from my sources... Gabrielle Stanton, one of the show's »
Reese & Jake: Life Goes On After Split
22 December 2009 2:14 PM, PST
Reese Witherspoon isn't letting her Thanksgiving breakup from Jake Gyllenhaal spoil the holidays. A source tells us the Oscar winner plans to spend time skiing out west with friends along with her kids. So where's Jakey? Not exactly sitting home pining away for his former girlfriend… Gyllenhaal joined the star-studded crowd who braved the New York City blizzard on Saturday night to pop into the Thompson Smyth Tribeca hotel, where Justin Theroux, Mark Ronson and Scott Campbell hosted a holiday party benefiting God's Love We Deliver. Joining the Brokeback Mountain man (who turned 29 on Saturday) were Mary-Louise Parker, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Will Arnett and Josh »
O.C. Housewives' Lynne One of Riverside's Most Wanted
22 December 2009 2:05 PM, PST
In case she needs somewhere to stay, Riverside County is offering Lynne Curtin some temporary free lodging. An arrest warrant has been issued for the Real Housewives of Orange County star and her husband, Frank, after the duo failed to show up for court yesterday to answer questions pertaining to a recent civil suit judgment, E! News confirmed Tuesday. The couple were ordered to pay $1.2 million to a former business partner and have not yet come up with the cash. Which, considering they were evicted from their O.C. rental home in August after falling $12,000 behind on their payments, does not come as a surprise. —Reporting by Marcus Mulick »
Randy Quaid and Wife Actually Show Up in Court, Plead Innocent to Hotel Scam
22 December 2009 1:20 PM, PST
This Vacation is over. After plenty of prodding from authorities (can you say arrest warrants and forfeited bail?), Randy and Evi Quaid have finally gotten the hint. The on-the-lam twosome turned up in a Santa Barbara courtroom today and pleaded not guilty to charges of skipping out on a $10,000 tab at a local resort earlier this year. Days after they were arrrested as felony fugitives in their native Texas and forced to post $40,000 bond apiece, the Independence Day star and his missus finally decided to make the trip out to the Golden State. They were arraigned on misdemeanor charges of burglary, conspiracy and defrauding an innkeeper, and allowed to leave after posting an additional $20,000 »
Coroner Launches Probe Over Brittany Murphy Leak
22 December 2009 11:17 AM, PST
Officials wanted to keep information on Brittany Murphy's death on lockdown until the official report could be released in the coming weeks. Apparently not everyone got the memo. The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office has launched an internal investigation after a detailed report was leaked to TMZ. The site reported late Monday that it had obtained notes written by an investigator Blalock laying out a timeline of Sunday morning, leading up to the 32-year-old actress's cardiac arrest. The dispatch didn't go over too well with the agency's chief investigator, Ed Winter, who told E! News that no one authorized the disclosure of such information—which not only »
