Apple talking to CBS, Disney for its TV project
6 hours ago
Any attempt to break new barriers in television accessibility is nothing without content and Apple's latest attempt to corner TV has two big names in its front pocket.
CBS and Disney are in talks with Apple to join their latest iTunes TV project, a monthly subscription that would give viewers access to a whole range of TV shows.
Of course, none of these deals are set in stone and everything can fall apart at a moment's notice, but imagine the effects this project would have on television. Are you excited about it or does it scare you down to the very core of your being?

Some say The Stig has a face and that he'll reveal it on the next season of Top Gear
6 hours ago
The new season of Top Gear hasn't hit the Us airwaves yet, but it seems the most recent has ended, as Jeremy Clarkson might put it, on quite a bombshell.
The Stig, the show's mysterious test driver, actually revealed his identity during the last season, probably the new one headed stateside next month. So if you're a fan of the show and hate spoilers, don't watch it. Also, some say his eyes can emit laser beams that can cook potatoes from the inside and that people have mistaken the mole on his face for an image of the Virgin Mary. All we know is we won't be held responsible for the consequences.

Arnold Stang, voice of Top Cat, dead at 91
8 hours ago
When I was a kid, I loved the cartoon Top Cat. I'm not sure why. Maybe it was the cool music or the fact it was set in New York City. I also really loved Top Cat's voice.
Arnold Stang, the voice of the clever feline, died earlier this week at the age of 91. Stang was in 75 gazillion TV shows and movies over the years (you'd know the face and/or the voice even if you couldn't place the name), including The Jonathan Winters Show, Broadside, Batman, Bonanza, The Red Skelton Show, December Bride, The Steve Allen Show, The Milton Berle Show, Emergency, and Mathnet.
He was also in several movies, including Hercules in New York, Dennis The Menace, and It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. He was also the original voice of Buzz Bee in Honey-Nut Cheerios commercials.
After the jump, an episode of Top Cat.

Review: Scrubs - Our Mysteries
(S09E05) Sorry this one is late, folks. Sometimes life intervenes before you get to see your favorite shows...
Can you blame me? Given the low ratings and the fact that ABC has decided to blow out all 13 episodes by the end of January, it seems like this is the last we're going to see of the Scrubs: Med School gang, unless the show gets yet another last-minute reprieve. So it's tough for me to get too attached to this new set of characters.
But that may be a good thing. If what we saw last night was any indication of how things are going to be once the med students are carrying the show, it's in trouble.

Cowell out: Judge leaving American Idol next year?
If you hate Simon Cowell, you'll only have one year left to coat your TV with a fine layer of anger spittle during American Idol.
The judge's brother, Tony Cowell, leaked the news on his podcast that Cowell's people are preparing a press release announcing that 2010 will be the final year Cowell sits in the judging seat on AI.
But don't celebrate the death of the lumbering reality TV giant yet, all you AI lovers and haters. Cowell is stepping away from AI to focus on the importing an American version of The X Factor. So who should AI replacing the acerbic judge or would a rabid monkey that uses sign language suffice?

Letterman ruins A Charlie Brown Christmas
9 hours ago
Everyone enjoys A Charlie Brown Christmas (you do enjoy it, right?). But what if a certain late night television host was inserted into it? Let's take a look!
He's not sure which network the special is on this year (and he calls it It's A Charlie Brown Christmas), but animated Dave is amusing. They should make a web series featuring him.

Top TV Stories of 2009: Series finales
I don't think anyone cried over the cancellation of According to Jim, which managed to stay on the air seemingly due to some kind of deal with the devil, for eight cruel seasons. But 2009 also saw the end of some of our favorite shows here at TV Squad.
Some of these series finales left us in tears, some of them sparked debate, and a few even left us wondering, "what did I just watch?"
After the jump you'll find a list of six notable series finales for 2009. Feel free to share your thoughts about the finales in the comments, and don't forget to tell us about your favorites that didn't make the list. (And needless to say, there be spoilers below!)

Here's the promo for Undercover Boss (and a question I have about it)
The other day Allison told you about CBS deciding to run the first episode of the new reality show Undercover Boss after the Super Bowl. Here's the promo that the network is running for it. I don't know if I want to see a reality show get that coveted spot, but the question I have is this: if the CEOs don't reveal themselves to the other employees until much later, how does the camera crew explain to the employees why they're being filmed? Do they tell them they're being filmed a la Dunder-Mifflin?

Rick Sanchez gets new CNN show, Rick's List
12 hours ago
Rick Sanchez is one of those CNN personalities -- it's hard to call him a news reporter -- who doesn't really fit the mold. He never fit the mold as a local guy down here in South Florida either. However, CNN seems to believe that Rick has an appeal. That said, CNN will give Rick Sanchez a new show in just a few weeks. Commencing January 18, 2010, Rick's List will be a daily two-hour installment of Rich Sanchez. The timing is interesting because they're cutting an hour into Wolf Blitzer's The Situation Room.
This actually makes sense. The Situation Room is very political and during the campaign and the election, the ratings were high. We're in a post-election period now and will be for a while.
The CNN idea is to fill the afternoon with more fluff and general interest news, the kind of stuff Rick Sanchez is better suited to handle. »

Joan Rivers is still working for E!
There have been three constants in this late stage of Joan Rivers' career. First, her project will involve her daughter Melissa. Second, she will work for E! Entertainment. Third, it will involve interviews on the red carpet of some awards show. All three of these are true in her new series of Fashion Police specials for E! Although in this case, Melissa Rivers is a producer and won't generally be appearing on screen.
I remember her best as the voice of Dot Matrix in Spaceballs. I did watch her Comedy Central Roast and found it to be lackluster. After all the plastic surgery, I'm surprised she can even move her mouth anymore. It's frozen in a grin like Jack Nicholson's Joker.
I'm fascinated to know why Joan Rivers' red carpet interviews are so popular that E! keeps asking her back. Does anybody out there watch and like the interviews? »

Top TV Stories of 2009: The continued rise of online video
13 hours ago
When Neil Patrick Harris hosted the Emmys, Dr. Horrible conveniently invaded for a moment, spreading webseries fear throughout the TV industry audience. It was a funny bit, serving mainly as a vehicle for some jokes about buffering and tiny screen sizes. Hopefully that made the TV people feel better, if only for a little while, because online video is showing no signs of stopping.

NBC wants you to know that Chuck has action, romance, and comedy
14 hours ago
I really like this new series of promos for Chuck. It was always a show that could have been cancelled, so it's great to see NBC promoting it with new TV promos, posters, and these new web promos. If some fans haven't seen the show, they want you to know that it has Action! Romance! Comedy! The show returns on January 10.

Cinematic Titanic goes live with East Meets Watts on DVD
14 hours ago
Take one barely skilled Chinese martial artist. Add a beefy hunk of traditional blaxploitation, and top off with a complete selection of Asian actors who played bad guys on M*A*S*H. Stir rigorously.
Bake for two hours under the high heat of Mystery Science Theater 3000-inspired quips, and you end up with the new live DVD from Cinematic Titanic, "East Meats Watts."
This latest release from MST3K veterans Joel Hodgson, Trace Beaulieu, Josh Weinstein, Mary Jo Pehl and Frank Conniff features a clunky 70's mess on celluloid mocked before an affectionate live audience. While Cinematic Titanic's earlier DVD releases all pack more than the U.N.-mandated share of laughs, the energy provided by the comics' interactions with the crowd make this the comic troupe's most successful DVD release so far.

O.C. Real Housewives' Lynne Curtin in real, big trouble
15 hours ago
On The Real Housewives of Orange County, Lynne Curtin faced concerns about her financial problems by going out and getting a face lift. That's right, she bought something that she probably couldn't pay for, but couldn't be repossessed. Well, now Real Housewive's Lynne Curtain is in financial trouble with the law.
Lynne and Frank Curtin have a judgment against them involving $1.2 million and they didn't pay up. Because of that failure to pay, a Riverside County, California judge issued a bench warrant for the couple to appear in court and explain themselves. The court date was Monday, December 21. The Curtins never showed up.

The Twelve Days of Festivus: One great TV moment
16 hours ago
On the first day of Festivus, TV gave to me... one great TV moment.
Unlike last year, which had a ton of major TV moments to choose from, this year had a whole roster of moments that seemed major at the time but ended up being minor in retrospect. Obama's inauguration feels more like a leftover moment from 2008. ER's finale would have been huge if it aired in 2004 instead of 2009. Letterman talking about his affairs and the corresponding blackmail incident would have been huge if Tiger Woods didn't run over that fire hydrant. Balloon Boy was a hoax, and Jon and Kate's divorce announcement had more of a rubbernecking feel than one that was communal.
No, the only TV moment that seemed to give us all a reason to talk around the Keurig machine (no one talks around watercoolers anymore, do they) was a moment that a) didn't even happen in the Us, »

Lost final season trailer finally hits the web
17 hours ago
If you're a fan of Lost and you can actually wrap your head around all of the show's twists and turns without your head exploding, this should make for a tasty appetizer.
The trailer for the show's final season, which starts Feb. 2, has hit the web and it seems to be one action packed mother. If only every episode came with one of those in-screen translators who can explain everything that's going on so simpletons like me can also enjoy it.
