Fans know that Asher Roth loves college, parties and perhaps most of all, women. One thing he apparently doesn't love is Internet rumors about his sexuality.
The rapper was the subject of rumors in recent days that claimed he would be coming out of the closet during an E! News special to be broadcast over the holidays. Other rumors said that Roth would soon be dropped from his label, Src Records, to which he's signed via a deal with Universal/Motown Records.
A representative for Src released a statement on Sunday refuting all of the allegations.
"Asher Roth is not gay, and is not scheduled to be interviewed on the E! Channel," the statement reads. "Furthermore, Asher has not been dropped from Src Records, and …

Taylor Swift came in a very close second to Lady Gaga in MTV News' Woman of the Year countdown for 2009. In a year not dominated by Gaga, we surely would have selected Swift as the very biggest female entertainer of the last 12 months. And newspaper editors and broadcast producers across the country clearly thought Swift's one-two punch of hit singles and awards-show success earned their votes for The Associated Press' entertainer of the year.
"I am so honored and so excited," the 20-year-old country superstar told the AP upon learning of the honor, which went to Tina Fey last year. "This was so unexpected, and I could not be more grateful."
While her second album, Fearless, hit shelves the previous calendar year, she held the #1 spot on the Billboard …

Last week, we detailed Rihanna's rather, uh, eventful year when we named her our #3 Woman of 2009. It started in February with her assault at the hands of then-boyfriend Chris Brown, and culminated in the release of her most adventurous album yet, the dark and artful Rated R. Along the way, she overcame adversity and reclaimed her title as one of the biggest acts in the world and, perhaps most notable of all, she inspired millions with her strength and spirit.
But what inspired her? When we caught up with Rihanna on the set of her just-released "Hard" video, we decided to find out. She let us in her world, revealing the song that served as the soundtrack for her year, and the artist who she idolized the most in '09.

On Friday (December 18), MTV News named Michael Jackson the Man of the Year, and not just because his death was the biggest story of 2009. In passing, he reminded us all of his formidable legacy — as a musician, a showman and a cultural icon. He revolutionized the world of music videos, wowed fans around the world and, somewhere along the way, helped a fledgling cable channel called MTV to establish a foothold in the world.
And for all those reasons — not to mention a few more — Jackson's surviving brothers think MTV News made the right call.
"I think it's great, because Mike was a pioneer," Jermaine Jackson said. "I really feel he put MTV on the map because of his contributions to music. You made the right choice, definitely."

After a video appeared online over the weekend of Day26's Qwanell "Que" Mosley announcing he was no longer with the band, his manager confirmed the split to MTV News on Monday (December 21). Que said the split had nothing to do with Diddy or Bad Boy, which his manager also confirmed.
In the video, Mosley, speaking from a recording studio where his management said he is currently working on solo music, says: "I love Day26 and I just wanted to move forward with my management. I feel bad for my brothers because they don't get it, and they making me seem like the bad guy. Miley Cyrus was excited to work with Bret Michaels on a "rad" cover of Poison's classic ballad "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," and the feeling was mutual. Michaels insisted that Cyrus is the real deal and he was honored that the star was interested in working with him on the song.
"It was really, really simple," he told MTV News recently while promoting his cameo in "American Pie Presents: The Book of Love." "I think her first concert was Poison. She saw us at Nashville at the arena. It was her introduction into rock and roll."
He went on to say that despite her role on "Hannah Montana" and her reputation for making catchy pop, Cyrus truly does have a rock-and-roll spirit. "She's …

Over the weekend, 32-year-old actress Brittany Murphy passed away — and it's at times like this that we here at MTV News have to take a moment to reflect back on what it was like to spend time over the years with someone like her.
A lot of what you see in entertainment news is unapologetically manufactured. But when it came to Murphy, she was as pure a star as you could ask for — what you saw at home was exactly what she was like in real life. And as we got into the MTV offices this morning and began poring over some of the many interviews we had with her over the years, it was incredibly moving to see how her personality always shone through. …

San Diego — Hours before Lady Gaga strutted across the stage at the San Diego Sports Arena, the show had already begun in the parking lot. Hundreds of her fiercest "monsters" — dressed in all manner of feathers, bubbles, crowns, lace and other Gaga-inspired finery — were already preparing themselves for the night's big show, practicing their runway walks, limbering up their vocal cords (after all, there would be much screaming ahead) and pulling on their knee-high patent leather boots.
It was a sight to behold: Gaga fans milling about in the shadow of the Sports Arena, taking over a nearby Chick-fil-a, hitting up the Am-pm for last-minute party supplies. They came from near and far — some as far as Vancouver or Brazil — to worship at the altar of their queen, …

'It makes me want to work harder,' says singer, who cites Vma performance as high point of year.

No one had a bigger 2009 than Lady Gaga. Her hits were omnipresent. Her tours legendary. Her television appearances, well, they were definitely water-cooler material. And that's saying nothing about her outfits, her photo spreads or her art.
So it was no surprise that last week, MTV News named her Woman of the Year.
On Saturday — hours before her triumphant Monster Ball tour stop in San Diego — we sat down with the reigning princess of pop to talk about the year that was, the year that will be (from the sound of things, she's not planning on resting in 2010) and what the Woman of the Year honor meant to her. Turns out, it meant an awful lot.
"It means everything," Gaga said. "I'm not only flattered but really excited. …
