DVD Review: Mickey’s Magical Christmas: Snowed in at the House of Mouse

I have a dark and hideous secret. Only a handful of friends know about this, but I felt it was time to let the minions of the interwebs know the truth: I love Christmas. There I said it.

For me, Christmas is about family, faith, buckets of hot chocolate, too many renditions of Here Comes Santa Claus and, yes, learning to get over yourself and enjoy the holiday.

In Mickey’s Magical Christmas: Snowed in at the House of Mouse, Disney has repackaged the original 2001 release just in time for the holidays.

Snowed In, one of two House of Mouse tales featured on the disc, stars Mickey, Goofy, and Donald who are running a nightclub for a whole host of Disney characters. When a freak snowstorm lands squarely on their pad, over 35 Disney characters are stranded inside with nothing to do except sing songs, perform skits and show previously created content like Donald on Ice, »

Smith to star in Flowers for Algernon

Following the news that Smith’s Oldboy remake has fallen through, the erstwhile Fresh Prince has returned to more familiar territory – finding an Oscar-baiting role to alternate around his action projects.

With an I Am Legend prequel in development, and potential sequels to I, Robot and Hancock in the works, Smith has set his sites on an almost fool-proof project to finally nab the elusive Oscar he so clearly covets.

Pajiba are reporting that Smith is set to produce and star in an adaptation of Daniel Keyes 1959 novel Flowers for Algernon. The story focuses around a mentally retarded man named Charlie who, after experimental surgery, sees his Iq rocket from 68 to 185. His newfound intellect effects his ability to interact with those around him and proves far more of a burden than a blessing.

The story quite famously provided inspiration to an episode of The Simpsons and seems to tick all »

Antm’s Miss J…Mr. Dad?

J. Alexander, judge and runway coach for America’s Next Top Model, is not one to mince words.

On more than one occasion, Alexander has nearly brought Antm contestants to tears with his bluntly honest critiques of their photos or walks.

There’s one area in which the outspoken J, more commonly referred to as “Miss J,” remains fairly candid: his personal life.

On the November 10th episode of The Tyra Show, Miss J revealed to the audience a secret he’d never shared with the public, and one which most people likely wouldn’t have guessed.

With a little coaxing from Tyra, Miss J said, “I’m a dad. Not a biological dad, but a dad.”

Miss J’s seven-year-old son Boris was conceived by a friend of Miss J and his ex-boyfriend through sperm donations. Both men made donations, but Miss J’s ex is biologically Boris’s father. »

Jessica Alba Doesn’t See Herself as Sexy

In a recent interview, Hollywood hottie Jessica Alba declared that she doesn’t consider herself sexy.

Now, I’m sure every guy reading this would love to personally show Alba their disagreement, and every woman’s jaw just dropped as the thought, “What does she know about not feeling sexy?” came to mind.

But Alba’s insistent. “I never feel sexy…I never do, and that’s the truth,” said the actress.

When asked whether her view of herself changes during, say, a photo shoot where stylists and makeup artists stand armed and ready with the tools to make her look her absolute most stunning, Alba still maintained that, “I’m always wondering when my next break is…I want to call home and talk to my hubby or talk to my friends or check on my daughter. I’m never thinking I’m sexy.”

French star Eva Green gets naked for recreation of Charlotte Rampling photo

French actress Eva Green got all sorts of naked for U.K. magazine Tatler. The 29-year-old recreated a 1973 photo of screen-icon Charlotte Rampling.

Eva Green may be best known for playing Vesper Lynd in the James Bond reboot Casino Royale. She was also in the Bernardo Bertolucci film, The Dreamers, where the starlet was largely nekkid for the whole thing.

Rampling is a cinema legend who frequently appeared in risque films. The English actresses’ career has spanned over four decades in English, as well as French and Italian movies. “I generally don’t make films to entertain people. I choose the parts that challenge me to break through my own barriers,” the now 63-year-old said. “A need to devour, punish, humiliate, or surrender seems to be a primal part of human nature, and it’s certainly a big part of sex. To discover what normal means, you have to surf a tide of weirdness. »

Photo: ‘New Moon’s’ Christian Serratos sheds clothing for PETA

Christian Serratos, who played Angela (she’s, like, Bella’s Bff) in Twilight and in the upcoming The Twilight Saga: New Moon, has shed her clothing to make a point about wearing fur. Yes, Serratos is the latest dame to take it all off for PETA.

Personally, I’ve never heard of her. But the 19-year-old’s credits include Hannah Montana, Zoey 101 and 7th Heaven. So there.

In August, Serratos was asked what it was like dealing with crazy Twilight fans: “Yeah, I think everyone’s just kind of leaching onto it more and more. There was definitely a lot more people there at the New Moon set,” she said. “I expect there’s gong to be a whole lot more at this [Eclipse] set.”

New Moon hits theaters on November 20th.

Dolph Lundgren ponders role in mythical Conan reboot

10 November 2009 12:20 PM, PST

Dolph Lundgren is cool. I don’t care how many direct-to-dvd movies he does a month, Lundgren is a complete bad-ass. So much of a bad-ass in fact that Lundgren might show up in the highly-rumored Conan reboot.

“I’ve talked to the producers about doing something for Conan,’” Lundgren said. “It’s too early,” he said, stating that he wouldn’t know anything certain until “probably next year.”

The updated Conan will directed by Marcus Nispel for Lionsgate. The reboot is expected to more faithful to Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian than the Arnold Schwarzenegger films were.

Lundgren will be seen in Sylvester Stallone’s action-ensemble pic, The Expendables, where the 52-year-old will play a Swedish sniper named Gunnar Jensen. The film is expected to be released on August 20th.

Conan the Barbarian was released in 1982 from director John Milius. Milius later went to direct Red Dawn. »

Demi Moore poses for W, chats about puma love with Ashton Kutcher and lack of “interesting roles”

10 November 2009 12:16 PM, PST

Yes. She is still hot.

Demi Moore, who seems to be more known for marrying a guy (Ashton Kutcher) a lot younger than herself, recently chatted with W magazine and posed for a couple shots.

“I’m certainly not the first person to be in a relationship with a younger man, but somehow I was plucked out as a bit of a poster girl,” Moore said discussing her relationship with 31-year-old Kutcher. “I don’t know why that is. But I just kind of step back sometimes and say, ‘There is some reason, and what is it that I have to share in a positive way?…I’d prefer to be called a Puma.”

She added: “The love [Ashton] has for me makes me a better person by giving me the courage to take risks. I can fail and have someone who loves me just the same. I never knew it was quite possible. »

Mamma Mia star Dominic Cooper slated for Saddam Hussein thriller

10 November 2009 12:09 PM, PST

Dominic Cooper (Mamma Mia) is set to star in the upcoming action-thriller true story The Devil’s Double for Paradigm Motion Picture Finance Group .

Cooper will play Latif Yahia, “a dead ringer for Saddam Hussein’s sadistic and widely despised son Uday who was forced against his will to stand in for Uday in potentially dangerous situations.”  Through his access, Yahia gained access to Hussein’s inner sanctum and witnessed terrible corruption, violence and nuttiness.

Ludivine Sagnier is also in talks to star in the project which begins shooting in January in scenic Malta.

Lee Tamahori (Die Another Day) will direct from a script that Michael Thomas adapted.

Last month, while promoting his latest film, An Education, in the U.K., Cooper talked about the rumored prequel to Mamma Mia. “Unfortunately you say sequel, I’ve heard a terrible similar word beginning with a ‘p’, which absolutely outs my existence in it whatsoever, »

Bullplop? More potential casting news for Spider-man 4: Rachel McAdams as Black Cat

10 November 2009 12:02 PM, PST

Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Wedding Crashers) and Romola Garai (Amazing Grace) are reportedly in talks to play the superheroine Black Cat in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4.

30-year-old McAdams appears to be the front-runner for the part of Felicia Hardy, a former girlfriend of Peter Parker (you sly fictional dog) who is an accomplished cat burglar…hence the name Black Cat.

In the comics, the cleavage happy Black Cat has always been a bit of a mercenary who walks the fine on legalities. She’s also jonesing for some Spidey.

Here’s a juicy morsel from Comicvine.com:

Felicia Hardy is often seen as a woman obsessed with Spider-Man always trying to keep his affection. For example she once set up Spider-Man to be caught red-handed so he could become an outlaw and live forever with her. She is also superficial, asking Parker to put his mask back on as »

Expected: Robert Pattinson confirms production of ‘Breaking Dawn’ before close of 2010

10 November 2009 11:55 AM, PST

At a press junket for The Twilight Saga: New Moon, series star Robert Pattinson confirmed that The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn will happen…as if there was any doubt. Pattinson agreed with us and called the fourth feature in the series “pretty much inevitable.”

Pattinson plays the dapper and love-stricken vampire, Edward Cullen. The 23-year-old English actor stated that he has received a temporary production schedule and that lensing on Breaking Dawn is set to begin before the close of 2010. “I think it’s going to be probably end of next year before filming,” says Pattinson.

Rampant rumors suggested that Breaking Dawn, the fourth book in the series, would be split into three movies. Three movies! Twilight author Stephenie Meyer believes it should be made into two films. Two films! Neither idea seems to be coming to fruition. Fruition!

While you wait for Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, how about checking »

Winona Ryder joins cast of sexy thriller ‘Black Swan’

9 November 2009 4:53 AM, PST

Weird. I was just thinking, “You know what Black Swan needs? Some Winona Ryder.”

Poof! Wish granted. The Girl, Interrupted star will join the cast of Darren Aronofsky’s (The Wrestler, Pi) Black Swan. The 38-year-old will play Beth, a dancer who is entering the twilight of her professional dance career.

Joining Ryder will be Vicent Cassel and Barbara Hershey.

Black Swan focuses on a veteran New York City ballet dancer (Portman) who finds herself in an intensely competitive situation with a rival (Kunis), who might be a ghost or figment of Portman’s character’s imagination.

The film has made some earlier buzz due to an “extreme” sex scene between Portman and Kunis.

Production on Black Swan will begin this month and will hit theaters sometime in 2010.

Sandra Bullock on ‘The Proposal’s’ popularity: ‘Nudity had to do with it’

9 November 2009 4:27 AM, PST

If you were to ask me why I thought the Sandra Bullock-Ryan Reynolds romantic comedy, The Proposal, was a success, I would tell you that it was because of the film’s comedic writing and fabulous cast chemistry. If you ask Bullock herself, she may tell you something different.

“We had all the right people, the right elements in the right place” Bullock said. “But to be honest I think nudity had a great deal to do with it. People liked it.”

The quote comes from British online tabloid Stv so we can’t tell if a) she really said it b) it was completely tongue-in-cheek or c) it was taken out of context.

The Proposal made $315 million worldwide when it was released earlier this year.

Here’s a clip of the scene in question. It’s one of the highlights in the film.

Under pressure, CW producers to change theme of ‘Gossip Girl’

9 November 2009 4:22 AM, PST

In response to the recent statement issued by the Parents Television Council, producers of the CW’s hit drama Gossip Girl will make changes to the show’s storyline, advertisements and characters in order to create wholesome entertainment for the country’s parent-less children.

“We really don’t have a choice. We feel compelled to do this for the impressionable kids out there with no parents or guardians,” said CW spokesperson Michelle Garrett. “Thanks to the PTC’s statement, we, along with the show’s advertisers, feel like the appropriate thing to do will be to completely overhaul the show so teens aren’t turned into sexual deviants.”

Last week, the Parents Television Council asked CW affiliates to preempt an upcoming episode of Gossip Girl in which a threesome between the show’s main characters has been teased. Promos for the show identify the act occurring between unidentified characters in an episode entitled 3Some. »

Up Blu-Ray Review

8 November 2009 11:40 PM, PST

Critics and audiences alike often get flack for championing Pixar’s films every time a new one is released. While everyone does go crazy with praise, just take a look at their catalog. Cars and A Bug’s Life may not be up to the standards of Toy Story 2, Wall-e, or Finding Nemo but they’re still better than half of the animated movies that are released over the years. If anything they’re probably the best studio around as they consistently churn out projects that above all put their story and characters first. One year ago, everyone crowned Wall-e as their finest achievement and was on many “best of” lists, mine included. While Up is certainly going to be there this year, my question now is will it remain on top? While it’s dropped a place or two, there’s no denying that Pixar has crafted their finest film. »
