Lopez Tonight On TBS
I've always had a soft spot for George Lopez. On paper, George Lopez was nothing you'd find me watching, but once I did I was oddly hooked. There's something about him, and perhaps his theory of comedy, that just works for me. He's coming to late night, starting tomorrow November 9th at 11pm est/pt, with Lopez Tonight, and I have a feeling this one is going to be worth checking out. He's always struck me as a conversational comedian, and I think he'll make for a fun late night effort. I've only managed to catch some clips so far, which I admit means little, but it looks good so far. TBS's Lopez Tonight is ready to get the party started as George Lopez welcomes premiere-night guests Ellen DeGeneres, Eva Longoria-Parker of Desperate Housewives and NBA great Kobe Bryant. The high-energy, late-night series premieres on TBS Monday, Nov. 9, at 11 p. »

Disney’s A Christmas Carol Movie Review
7 November 2009 9:40 AM, PST
One of the things you really have to ask yourself at the outset is, "Why do people keep remaking Charles Dickens' story?" The easy answer is that we need a decent helping of holiday fare at the theaters, but there are other things we could do, and even redo. It may still be a ways off, but we're quickly gaining on the 200th Anniversary of this story... surely there are other tales we could explore. While spitting out a movie just to cash in is never a motive that should be overlooked, the people behind the thirty-odd versions of this particular story don't seem as a general rule to be those sorts of people. On the other hand, Robert Zemeckis is one of the first names that might pop into my mind when working out a list of those capable of churning out nonsense based largely on the idea »

WWII In HD On The History Channel – Plus Special History Channel Prize Pack Giveaway
7 November 2009 6:28 AM, PST
The History Channel has done it again, and you want to mark your calendars for November 15th, 9Pm/8C, because you don't want to miss WWII in HD. What's really amazing to me about The History Channel is that I simply am not much of a history buff, and they can nevertheless put history together in ways I can't stop watching. If you are a history buff in general, or someone interested in WWII specifically, you don't need to be sold on this. A 10-hour series on the war told from through the eyes of 12 people who lived it, which includes a good deal of footage never before seen - you probably don't need to know anything else. Of course I could say that it is put together in a nice package, that the stories are told wonderfully, and so on, but you've seen some of The History Channel's bigger projects, »

North By Northwest 50th Anniversary Blu-Ray
6 November 2009 1:28 PM, PST
When it comes to classic movies, there aren't many around with a shot at topping North by Northwest. The treasure of cinema fans and frequent bane of film students is now available in a wonderful Blu-Ray treatment, fully remastered, and with great bonuses. Cary Grant (as the ultimate man-on-the-run in his fourth Hitchcock teaming) gives a superlative performance while Eva Marie Saint (perfect Hitchcock heroine Eve Kendall) is at her sultry and sexy best in this heart-pounding thriller. Grant plays Manhattan adman Roger Thornhill, who is at once plunged into the world of spies and counterspies, abducted, framed for murder, chased, and (in the signature set-piece) crop-dusted. At the films’ end, he hangs on for dear life from the facial features of Mount Rushmore’s Presidents where he ultimately rescues Miss Saint. »

Mickey’s Magical Christmas: Snowed In At The House Of Mouse DVD
4 November 2009 8:07 AM, PST
Now available on DVD, Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed in at the House of Mouse has managed to become a favorite since it first hit the scene almost ten years ago. I'm actually a tough sell when it comes to animated holiday efforts (my plate is full), but this one is a great combination of stories, and it's put together in a way that's great fun for the kids. Mine, for example, are huge fans of all the moments that come between the main courses. Tis the season at the House of Mouse, and a huge crew of Disney characters find themselves snowed in. To take everyone's mind off their predicament, Mickey and Minnie play some "home movies." The featured treats are: Donald on Ice, Pluto and the Christmas Tree, The Nutcracker, and Mickey's Christmas Carol. All of them solid efforts, but the last two are the real stars. »

Plastic Man – The Complete Collection DVD
3 November 2009 4:18 PM, PST
One of the greatest Saturday morning cartoons ever, and the forerunner of countless camp and/or satirical efforts, Plasticman, is now available in a 4-disc, 35 episode complete collection. A superhero like no other, with possible exception of Freakazoid!, Plasticman and his unique adventures are a treasure of the odd world of vintage television. With girlfriend Penny, sidekick Hula Hula, and the Plastijet, there is no danger too great, and no goofy barb too small. You never can tell what incredible feat of stretchitude is in store for you next, and don't forget the short-segment format that includes Mighty Man & Yukk, Fangface and Fangpuss, and more. They don't make them like this anymore, and the combination of superhero theory mixed with Scooby Doo-esque zaniness is just as fun as ever, and truly brilliant wacky adventures are as sure a win for kids today as they ever were. »

V – TV Review
3 November 2009 2:49 PM, PST
There's something decidedly odd about all the rebooting going on these days, and when a show has a "gag," we're in even stranger territory. What's odd about the whole deal, especially recently, is that there are so many television shows getting one reworking or another that decide against camp. In a kind of mirror effort to the reworking of Battlestar Gallactica, V is debuting tonight, and whether either of them are good or bad, the whole idea is just weird. I don't know about anyone else, but this reconstruction trend is messing with my childhood. I liked it better when someone would take something awesomely bad like The Dukes of Hazzard, and tell themselves they could make a pretty stupid movie out of it that might make some money. Fair enough really. But, the dripping with camptasticness Battlestar Gallactica is suddenly deadly serious, and everyone speaks like it's Patton or somesuch, »

Mercy Interview With Taylor Schilling and Michelle Trachtenberg Plus Preview Clips And More
3 November 2009 7:09 AM, PST
If you aren't watching NBC's Mercy, you might be missing more than you know. The show has received quite the mix of reviews, and in the overall weighing, things are leaning toward the less positive. However, I'm not so sure that the general tone of critique provides a fair picture in this case, and I think a lot of people are letting this show slip past who shouldn't. The complete "pulse" of criticism for a show is obviously just a balancing of the short-form results, the star ratings, the thumbs-ups, etc., but all those results come (let's pretend) from the reviews that supposedly get us there. In Mercy's case, the reasoning behind the results (based on the many... many reviews I've read) seems a bit more off than normal. »

Wrong Turn At Tahoe Preview And DVD Clip
2 November 2009 10:47 AM, PST
There's a movie coming to DVD pretty quick that I think is under the radar for most people, and I just wanted to get out a quick mention for you. Harvey Keitel, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Miguel Ferrer usually aren't names you associate with films that aren't getting enough mention, but I haven't heard much chatter about Wrong Turn at Tahoe, and when this shows up you might want something to work with. Love. Honor. Power. Fear of death… People live for all kinds of reasons. Life becomes the ultimate battle when all you're living for is revenge. Joshua (Oscar® winner Cuba Gooding Jr.), a hard-nosed collector for a ruthless mob boss (Miguel Ferrer), lives in a world filled with brutal violence and beautiful women. But when he finds himself in the middle of a power struggle with the most dominant drug lord in the business (Harvey Keitel), Joshua knows »

Ice Age Dawn Of The Dinosaurs – Scrat Pack Bonus DVD Set
2 November 2009 6:58 AM, PST
Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs is one of those incredibly rare third installments, because it's far better than the first two films. Though I'm not sure that's true for the little ones, it's certainly true for me. The first films were fine enough, but they overused the gags they built up, and some of the angles that played toward the smaller crowd went on too long. As we open this one, Manny is in worried father mode as Ellie is about to expand the herd. Diego is feeling out of place in the new "settling down" arrangement that our curious herd is adopting, and Sid stumbles upon some eggs and decides to start a family of his own. These turn out to be dinosaur eggs, and our little group soon learns that there is another world going about its merry existence below them, and this one is filled with »
