Audition finally getting translated for the Us
3 hours ago
Not sure what took so long, but Us publisher W.W, Norton & Co. will be releasing an english language adaptation of Ryu Murakami's original Audition novel in June of 2010. A good number of Murakami's other books have already been translated and released, but for some reason, what is arguably the man's most famous work was not available in english until early 2009 when it was released in the UK by Bloomsbury Publishing. »
U.S release date and new trailer for Warlords
12 hours ago
Well they do say “better late than never.” Over two years after pretty much the rest of the world got to see it, Jet Li’s superb period epic The Warlords is finally arriving on U.S shores this coming March. Set in the midst of war and political upheaval during the Taiping Rebellion of the 1860s, Li stars as General Pang, who barely survives a brutal massacre of his fellow soldiers by playing dead, and joins a band of bandits led by Er Hu (Andy Lau) and Wu Yang (Takeshi Kaneshiro). After fighting back attackers from an helpless village, the three men take an oath to become "blood brothers," pledging loyalty to one another until death, but things quickly turn sour and the three men become embroiled in a web of political deceit, and a love triangle between Pang, Er Hu and a beautiful courtesan (Wu Jing-Lei). »
Korean gangland thriller Breathless: Review
21 hours ago
Director: Yang Ik Joon. Review: Adam Wing. If you like your movies hard hitting then look no further, actor turned director Yang Ik Joon has turned in one of the most brutal and uncompromising Korean dramas of the year. Korean cinema is an exciting place to be right now but nothing will prepare you for the raw power of Breathless, an unstoppable juggernaut of pain and torment that refuses to let up until the final credits roll. If it’s fluffy bunnies and red balloons you’re after then turn away now, Yang Ik Joon’s debut feature isn’t afraid to kick you when you’re down. In fact, it spends most of its ample running time doing just that, Breathless might just be the most appropriate film title of the year. Yang Ik Joon stars as debt collector Sang Hoon, a hostile man that grew up in a household destroyed by domestic violence. »

District 9: DVD review
24 December 2009 1:24 AM, PST
Director: Neill Blomkamp. Review: Adam Wing. I find myself in a difficult position when it comes to writing a review for Neill Blomkamp’s sci-fi spectacle District 9, because all I really want to do is type the word awesome 500 times. Probably not the best way to spend my time but what can I say, it’s rare in this day and age that I come across a movie that actually lives up to the hype that surrounds it, but despite early reservations, District 9 more than delivers on every level. It’s probably best if you go into the movie with as little knowledge as possible, but for those of you that really need to know the details, here we go… »

Ninja: Review
22 December 2009 5:06 PM, PST
Director: Isaac Florentine. Review: Tim Irwin. It’s hard to believe that two movies with the word Ninja in the title came out in the same year, and were both made in the same country. Indeed, while Ninja Assassin [reviewed here] went over the top with CGI blood and absurd violence, Ninja feels a little more credible in terms of story and characters. Granted, its primary ninja looks more like a cyborg assassin or Batman than a martial arts expert, but don’t let that detract from the experience. Scott Adkins stars as Casey Bowman, an American who has grown up in a dojo his whole life. I wasn’t familiar with Adkins either, but a quick glance at his filmography turns up small parts in blockbusters like X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Bourne Ultimatum, and the lesser-known Unleashed (starring Jet Li). Casey has spent his life studying martial arts, and as time »
Trailer for Thai horror Die A Violent Death
22 December 2009 7:04 AM, PST
Well, we said that Die A Violent Death the latest horror offering from Thai movie house Phranakorn Film’s was going to be a bloodbath and by the looks of the first trailer, we weren’t far wrong. Granted that wasn’t a difficult call, Thai horror movies usually take great delight in pushing the boundaries of good (or otherwise) taste, but of course that’s why we all love them. Singer/actress Mai Charoenpura, who we last saw starring in the recent gruesome gore fest “Meat Grinder,” again leads the cast, and the film is released in the new year. For us the trailer appeared very dark at first, so some minor tweaking of your monitor settings may be required to get the full effect. »

Final poster for The Crazies
21 December 2009 11:30 AM, PST
The Final poster has just dropped for - one of the few mainstream U.S horrors we are looking forward to next year - The Crazies, Breck Eisner’s reinvention of the George Romero 1970s classic. As well as the new one sheet there’s an updated synopsis for your consideration, which goes like this…. David Dutten (Timothy Olyphant) is sheriff of Ogden Marsh, a picture-perfect American town with happy, law-abiding citizens. But one night, one of them comes to a school baseball game with a loaded shotgun, ready to kill. Another man burns down his own house…after locking his wife and young son in a closet inside. Within days, the town has transformed into a sickening asylum; people who days ago lived quiet, unremarkable lives have now become depraved, blood-thirsty killers, hiding in the darkness with guns and knives. »
Argentina’s first superhero movie Zenitram gets a trailer
21 December 2009 3:33 AM, PST
Actually make that two trailers. Nearly three years after we first reported on news that Argentina was to join the ranks of the super hero movie making world, we finally get to take a look at their first attempt, Zenitram: The Argentine Who Flies! Employing the most ridiculously catchy soundtracks, both trailers have absolutely no dialog, but instead purely rely on visuals to hook you in. And we have to say it looks like a blast. A black comedy set in a futuristic and decaying Buenos Aires, the movie stars Juam Minujin and Steven Bauer in the tale of Rubén a poor Argentine from the slums, struggling to come to terms with his Cocaine habit!? and newly discovered superpowers. With his tongue firmly in cheek, Zenitram director Luis Barone seems intent on parodying mainstream super hero movies (the scene in the “superhero hospital” rehab centre looks especially funny) through Rubén’s fall from grace. »
