Joss Whedon has done so much more than just work in the TV and film industry. He's created entire meticulous universes for his characters and fans to explore and that's no easy task. Thankfully the man is about to get his due.
Variety reports that The Producers Guild of America has selected Joss Whedon as the recipient of its Vanguard Award, which recognizes achievements in new media and technology.
Whedon is a producer, writer, director, and creator for TV series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Angel," "Firefly," and "Dollhouse" with film scripts including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Toy Story, Alien Resurrection and Titan A.E. He's penned the comic book series Fray and created and produced Internet series "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog."
His next feature Cabin in the Woods, which he co-wrote with Drew Goddard, is currently in post-production and is scheduled to be released sometime in 2011 by MGM. Given the studios recent financial problems, »

Ready to Be Frozen in February?
The dead of winter. What better time to release Adam Green's long awaited film Frozen than when most of the country are shivering their asses off?
Bloody Disgusting broke the news that the fine folks over at Anchor Bay Entertainment are looking to open Green's latest tale of terror in theatres on February 5th, 2010. Look for an official announcement soon.
Frozen stars Shawn Ashmore, Emma Bell, and Kevin Zeger and tells the tale of three skiers who are stranded on a chairlift and forced to make life-or-death choices that prove more perilous than staying put and freezing to death.

Official Word and Details: Paranormal Activity on DVD and Blu-ray
2 hours ago
Finally, after years of waiting and one hell of a theatrical run, the movie that scared the hell out of most of the world, Oren Peli's Paranormal Activity, is coming home courtesy of Paramount Home Entertainment; and we've got the whens and whats for you first!
On December 29, 2009, the film will hit home just in time to ring in the new year with a scream. The DVD and two-disc Blu-ray include the original theatrical version of the film plus an unrated version with a shocking alternate ending not seen in theaters. No word yet on which ending this will be, but the smart money is on the festival ending. The Blu-ray also includes a digital copy of the theatrical version.
Honestly ... this release is kind of shockingly skimpy. Could an extas-heavy version be on the horizon sometime in 2010? We wouldn't be a bit surprised.

The Goon Making Progress / Waiting on Fincher
6 hours ago
It's been a while since last we heard anything about David Fincher's upcoming CG animated feature film, The Goon, but finally there's a bit to talk about!
Creator Eric Powell himself filled in Comic Book Resources on the film's status.
"I just finished writing the script a few months back, and Blur is working on a lot of test stuff," he tells the site. "[Likely producer David] Fincher is working on a film right now, so we're waiting for him to get some space so we can start showing some of this stuff off. I'm pretty happy with everything so far. We've just got to work to get to the next point. This is a slow, long process."

Some Chatter on The Crow Remake
A bit more on Stephen Norrington's proposed remake of The Crow has made its way online today, and we've got the goods for you to sample (and probably complain about).
Producer Ryan Kavanaugh sat down with io9 and offered the following in terms of casting and make-up:
[The make-up will be] "totally different..." he tells the site. "He'll have makeup, but it will be different. The best way to compare it is the first Batman and Batman Begins. In terms of their look and feel and character."
As far as casting goes ...
"We're looking. We're in discussions...I think it's something cool, we're approaching it differently. It's really a whole relaunch of the franchise, much more of a dark superhero type. We're just relaunching it and making it with a much more present day character, someone more relatable to everybody. It will be an actor you've heard of, yes. We're not ruling anything out. »

Blair Witch Remake in the Works?
Given the success of Paranormal Activity, it was only a matter of time before someone went back to the well, or in this case the woods, to try to capture that ever so special lightning in a bottle that all indie filmmakers pursue.
While it's far from officially announced, Bloody Disgusting caught wind of a sort of Blair Witch Project remake from director Stacy Hopkins that's getting set to start filming in Glasgow, Scotland, tentatively being referred to as The Blair Witch Remake -- a film about three inexperienced filmmakers who set out to shoot a documentary about a local legend.
Online casting resources such as Backstage put out a call to have the following roles filled:
Dennis Hither: 22-38, an experienced filmmaker, Lead; Michael Adams: 22-44, supporting; Donald Walker: 22-38, an experienced filmmaker; Allison James: 21-35, Michael's girlfriend.
Look for further clarification of what this project actually is soon. »

Never Sleep Again Twitterfeed: Monday on the Road
7 hours ago
Being that Thanksgiving is this week, we figured we'd hit the road and do a little location shooting. It's good to get out of the office or, in our case, the studio. But where to, you ask? Rest assured no matter where we end up, it'll be fun!
Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy officially began lensing on August 22, 2009, in and around Los Angeles. Starring and narrated by Heather Langenkamp, star of the 1984 classic A Nightmare on Elm Street and two of its sequels (1986's Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and 1994's Wes Craven's New Nightmare), this thrilling 90-minute retrospective promises to be the definitive look at the making of the iconic horror series and the enduring legacy of its wise-cracking, razor-gloved villain: the indefatigable "bastard son of a hundred maniacs" known as Freddy Krueger.
Directed by Daniel Farrands and Andrew Kasch, this comprehensive look at the »

Ninja Assassin Black Carpet Mayhem
Well, even though Ninja Assassin may not exactly be a horror flick, around these parts we find ninjas and gratuitous violence pretty badass. All that being said, Dread Central sent out the team of Heather Wixson and Brian Smith to cover the black carpet premiere of the movie last Thursday night at the historic Mann's Chinese Theater.
The carpet was chock full of some of Hollywood's biggest Asian stars and featured a slew of live ninjas on hand to give the event some atmosphere. Check out the pics and video below from the Ninja Assassin premiere, and keep your eyes peeled for a review and an in-depth interview with director James McTeigue.

Zombie Fans Rejoice! Undead Labs Working on the Ultimate Living Dead Laden Mmo
7 hours ago
If you're like me, you don't understand the appeal of Mmo's like World of Warcraft. I don't want to enchant items or do fairy dances. I want to kill zombies. I want to paint the screen red with gore. I want to dance in their infected entrails. I want to .... wait, getting carried away. Ahem. Ok, a new company called Undead Labs may have just the game people like us have been waiting to sink our teeth into.
Industry veteran Jeff Strain today announced the formation of his newest company, Undead Labs, whose sole focus will be to create the definitive massively multi-player online zombie game (Mmoz) for console gamers.
“Every time I see a good zombie movie with friends, we spend days debating our strategies for surviving the zombie apocalypse,” said Strain. “The police station or the supermarket? Garden rake or staple gun? Bach or the White Stripes? I’m a game developer, »

Quote the Raven While Tied to a Chair - Poe and Torture Porn?
Edgar Allan Poe and torture porn. Two things I never gave much thought about going together. However, I guess if you really think about it, it does make some kind of sense.
Director James McTeigue sat down with SciFiWire for an interview about his latest film, the very violent Ninja Assassin, and he offered this on his upcoming remake of Poe's The Raven:
"It's sort of Se7en meets a series of Poe stories," he tells Sci Fi Wire. "It's set in 1850s Baltimore, and it's about creating Poe's version of 1850s Baltimore, him moving through it. So it has a lot of the Poe stories interwoven into it." Referenced films will include "'The Raven,' 'Tell-Tale Heart,' 'Premature Burial,' 'Murders in the Rue Morgue,'" added McTeigue. "There's a whole lot of them. It's actually a pretty cool concept."

Moseley, along with his Godkiller co-stars Danielle Harris and Tiffany Shepis, is pulling double duty as actor and now model for Halo-8's innovative and experimental animated film series Godkiller, which has quickly established itself as the fastest selling title in the indie studio's four-year history, driven by fast-paced physical DVD sales and the company's top digital sales to date. A Beastly Trailer Comes Our Way
11 hours ago
No doubt hoping for the kind of blind faith that Twilight fans show at the box office, CBS Films has provided the trailer for its new Beauty and the Beast redux of sorts, Beastly.
Synopsis
Kyle Kingson (Alex Pettyfer) has it all – looks, intelligence, wealth, and opportunity – and a wicked cruel streak. Prone to mocking and humiliating “aggressively unattractive” classmates, he zeroes in on Goth classmate Kendra (Mary-Kate Olsen), inviting her to the school’s extravagant environmental bash. Kendra accepts, and, true to form, Kyle blows her off in a particularly savage fashion. She retaliates by casting a spell that physically transforms him into everything he despises. Enraged by his horrible and unrecognizable appearance, he confronts Kendra and learns that the only solution to the curse is to find someone that will love him as he is – a task he considers impossible.
Repulsed by his appearance, Kyle’s callous father »

Bill Lustig: Maniac Remake on the Way / Possibly Maniac Cop as Well
21 hours ago
At a recent film festival over the weekend, genre favorite William Lustig dropped some really interesting news regarding two of his properties while accepting a well deserved lifetime achievement award. We warned you not to go out tonight!
Bloody Disgusting was in attendance and brought back the following tidbit:
"We already made a deal for the remake of 'Maniac' - there is a remake of 'Maniac' thats on its way, believe it or not. That deal is already closed. Now, Larry and I are in discussions for the remake of 'Maniac Cop'. We're not gonna be involved, but we'll collect a check. Actually, on the remake of 'Maniac', it's gonna say produced by William Lustig, but I'm going to have the least amount of involvement as a producer on the movie."
Look for more on both of these as it comes.
