Gyllenhaal Wants Second Co-starring Role With Sarsgaard
1 hour ago | WENN | See recent WENN news »
Maggie Gyllenhaal would jump at the chance to work with her husband Peter Sarsgaard again - because their co-starring roles in off-Broadway's Uncle Vanya revved up their love life.
The couple, which wed in Italy in May, performed together in the Chekhov play earlier this year.
And Gyllenhaal insists mixing her home life with work strengthened their bond - because they were so turned on by each other's work ethic.
The Dark Knight actress explains, "I could see how it would be awful for some people. For us it was like bliss. It was sexy and I felt like doing a Chekhov play, there are going to be times when you struggle, there are going to be times when you get things wrong, when you're flailing, and I felt like he respected me every minute." »
Cook's Christmas Poisoned By Spiders
1 hour ago | WENN | See recent WENN news »
Dane Cook's Christmas has gotten off to a creepy start - after discovering his festive tree was infested by hundreds of poisonous spiders.
The funnyman was in the holiday spirit while decorating his family's Christmas tree with his little sister earlier this week (begs21Dec09) - until he spied a venomous brown spider crawling between the branches.
But that was just the start of the holiday horror - Cook then discovered hundreds of its babies had just hatched on top of the tree, prompting the comedian and his sibling to act fast to throw the whole thing out.
He explains, "I had a bit of a Christmas debacle. We get a tree, we decorate it, my sister and I. We come in last night, and at the bottom of the tree you could see this big spider. I was pretty sure it was a brown recluse... When I look up at the star (at the top of the tree), there's a cocoon with hundreds of just hatched spiders. We can't take the decorations off, we just have to get rid of the tree." »
Madoff Moved To Prison Hospital Wing
1 hour ago | WENN | See recent WENN news »
Incarcerated Wall Street fraudster Bernard Madoff will spend his Christmas holiday in the hospital wing of his jail, according to a representative for the U.S. prison system.
The disgraced financier was sentenced to 150 years in jail in June after he pleaded guilty to siphoning billions of dollars from his wealthy clients, including Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick, John Malkovich and Zsa Zsa Gabor.
Reports circulated in August that the 77 year old was dying of cancer - claims which were quickly refuted by America's Prison Bureau.
However, Madoff was moved from his cell at North Carolina's Butner prison on Friday. No specific reason was given for the transfer.
In a statement, chief public information officer Traci Billingsley says, "Madoff was moved within the complex from the medium (security facility) to the medical centre in Butner on December 18.
"The potential reasons for an inmate's transfer are numerous and we don't release those specific reasons." »
Morrison: 'I'm Not Gay'

Actor Matthew Morrison is unfazed by speculation over his sexuality because he's been battling rumours he's gay since he was a child.
The star made his name on the Broadway stage in musicals like Hairspray before shooting to fame on hit U.S. TV show Glee, in which he plays music teacher Will Schuester.
Morrison, 31, admits he is regularly called a homosexual because of his love of singing and dancing, but the straight star insists he's not offended by the assumption.
He tells Elle magazine, "I grew up singing and dancing, so people have been calling me gay since fifth grade. I've heard everything you could possibly hear about it.
"I'm not gay... But I do love gay people, so I'm not going to act like I was insulted or angry about it." »
Producer: 'Murphy Looked Ill Over The Summer'
1 hour ago | WENN | See recent WENN news »
Producer Scott Chambers worried tragic actress Brittany Murphy was too ill to work over the summer after turning up on the set of Abandon looking skinny and frail.
The psychological thriller was one of the Clueless star's final projects before she suffered a fatal cardiac arrest on Sunday, aged just 32.
An autopsy was carried out on Monday but the cause of death has yet to be determined.
Murphy's husband, British screenwriter Simon Monjack, insisted the actress had not been taking any dangerous drugs prior to her passing, but revealed she had been diagnosed with a non-life-threatening heart murmur and had battled laryngitis earlier this year.
Chambers admits he was concerned about Murphy's wellbeing during filming, but she assured him she was fine and completed the job with no problems.
He tells the Los Angeles Times, "She looked ill, as much as 10 pounds underweight, and she's a small person to begin with.
"She easily could have made an excuse not to come to work, but she didn't. She said, 'I've got to get better, but I want to do this part.'"
However, Murphy's designer pal Tiffany Saidnia insists the actress was in good health and she's struggling to accept the star is dead - because "there was nothing wrong with her".
Saidnia can't understand how the star could suddenly drop dead because she appeared perfectly healthy when she made her final public appearance at Saidnia's fashion party in Los Angeles on 3 December.
She tells Life & Style magazine, "I'm shocked by this news - there was nothing wrong with her.
"Brittany was such a sweetheart, I'm deeply saddened about this. She was such a sincere person and wanted the best for everyone around her. She's gone too soon." »

Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree

Well, I've had better Christmases -- thanks to learning a few days ago that my magazine, Editor & Publisher, faces a January 1 expiration notice after publishing for only 125 years. So, to cheer myself up, I launched earlier this week the trailer for my upcoming (and first) Web series, "The Incompleat History of Rock 'n Roll." Perhaps it will get you, in the immortal words of Brenda Lee, to start "rockin' around the Christmas tree" yourself. In any case, David Wild, writer and contributing editor at Rolling Stone, this week at Huff Post called it "the most promising upcoming Web music series." It features clips of Elvis, Ricky Nelson, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan and Neil Young. A photo that John Lennon gave me in my Crawdaddy days that finds him "just pissing about." A »
