Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes’s prison sentence has been reduced by two years while she is currently serving her sentence for fraud.
Her updated release date is December 29, 2032. She was originally sentenced to 11 years and three months in jail in the Texas prison.
No reason was cited as to why her sentence was reduced, but possible reasons include good behavior, credits earned in programs and activities or completion of programs on substance abuse.
Holmes was found guilty of four counts of wire fraud when she deceived patients and doctors into using her company Theranos, which is now defunct, for blood tests, even though she was aware that the company did not produce accurate results. In addition to this, she was accused of defrauding more than $700 million from her investors with the claims she had made up.

Elizabeth Holmes, the founder and CEO of failed at-home blood-testing startup Theranos, reported to a Texas prison on May 30 to begin her 11-year, three-month sentence, per The New York Times. Holmes received her prison sentence along with an additional three-year period of supervised release in November 2022, NBC News reported. According to the outlet, Holmes told the court, "I regret my failings with every cell of my body," before receiving her sentence.
Amid her infamous fraud trial, Holmes became the subject of several onscreen projects, including HBO's 2019 documentary "The Inventor" and Hulu's 2022 miniseries starring Amanda Seyfried, "The Dropout." With Theranos's technology, Holmes promised to rapidly conduct hundreds of medical tests with small amounts of blood. These claims, however, turned out to be false, even though Theranos's tests were being rolled out in drugstores across the country for the general public. Unlike...

Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes is separating herself from the fictionalized portrayals of her personal, professional, and criminal life.
Convicted fraudster Holmes gave a controversial interview with The New York Times seemingly as part of a personal rebrand as a new mother of two.
“I made so many mistakes and there was so much I didn’t know and understand, and I feel like when you do it wrong, it’s like you really internalize it in a deep way,” Holmes said of founding Silicon Valley blood-testing company Theranos and infamously channeling Steve Jobs with a deep voice and black turtleneck uniform. “I believed it would be how I would be good at business and taken seriously and not taken as a little girl or a girl who didn’t have good technical ideas. Maybe people picked up on that not being authentic, since it wasn’t.”

There are plenty of scammer stories to go around, and while Anna Delvey’s story was interesting, Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes takes the crown as the biggest fraudster of all. If you’re overwhelmed by all the news about the disgraced Silicon Valley CEO, Hulu has a fictionalized account of what happened from start to finish with Amanda Seyfried at the helm. Seyfried delivers an excellent portrayal of Holmes, whom she enjoyed playing so much that she begged for a second season.

We root for heroes, but a TV show needs villains.
2022 had plenty of manipulators and monsters to keeping us riveted while make our skin crawl.
These characters are vile, and we wouldn't have them any other way.
Check out TV Fanatic's picks for the villains of 2022 we love to hate.
Monet de Hann - Gossip Girl (HBO Max)
Monet was on the periphery of the first season of the reboot, but the writers clearly understood Savannah Lee Smith was the strongest cast member and rewarded her with a deliciously villainous arc on Gossip Girl Season 2.
Monet is one of the richest characters on TV, and despite her mean streak on full display, there are some redeeming qualities.
This type of character is difficult to pull off, but I can't wait to see what becomes of Monet beyond the second season.
Hopefully, we get a third season!

There is nothing better than a cinematic needle drop. This year was absolutely loaded perfect song selections that charmed, horrified, confused or absolutely destroyed audiences. To celebrate the best moments of music in 2022’s film and television the Variety staff cobbled together a list of our favorite hits.
Labrinth & Zendaya “I’m Tired” – “Euphoria”
Music Supervisor: Jen Malone
This song is hauntingly perfect for the scene in which it is featured. Rue (Zendaya) is out of her mind on drugs and hallucinates that she is in a church before she sees herself in her living room dancing with her dead father. Zendaya proves that she is not only one of the best actresses of her time in this scene, but one hell of a singer to boot. – Joe Otterson

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for the Season 2 finale of Fox’s The Cleaning Lady.
Season 2 of The Cleaning Lady came to a close Monday night with a two-part finale that killed two key characters and left Thony (Elodie Yung) to pick up the pieces.
Despite warnings to stay away from Robert Kamdar (Naveen Andrews) as the FBI closed in on him, Thony once again took matters into her own hands. While Arman (Adan Canto) was eventually able to take him down, FBI agent Garrett Miller (Oliver Hudson) was also killed in the process — disintegrating Thony’s connection to law enforcement and ruining her chances of saving her sister Fiona (Martha Millan) from deportation after the two are caught stealing medical equipment and administering an experimental drug to Thony’s son to save his life.
Arman and Thony will have to work together to bring Fiona back to the United States,...

Elizabeth Holmes, the disgraced CEO who is currently pregnant with her second child, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison after being found guilty on fraud charges related to the fallout of her blood sampling company, Theranos.
Holmes, who is expected to appeal, must report to prison on April 27, 2023. She is also required to serve three years of probation after her release.
“Failure is normal but failure by fraud is not Ok,” U.S. District Judge Edward Davila said while ruling on Friday.
Before she was sentenced, an emotional Holmes spoke before the judge. “Thank you for the chance to speak. I’m grateful for this chance,” she said, according to reporters in the courtroom. “I stand before you taking responsibility for Theranos. It was my life’s work.”
“I am devastated by my failings. I have felt deep pain for what people went through, because I failed them,” she continued.

Elizabeth Holmes, founder of the doomed medical startup Theranos, has been sentenced to 11¼ years in jail for defrauding investors and consumers with a faulty blood-testing device she touted as the next revolutionary health technology.
Three years of supervised release will follow Holmes’ time in jail, according to multiple reports.
U.S. District Court Judge Edward Davila sentenced Holmes Friday after a four-hour hearing. The eleven years and three months will conclude with the three-year supervision period and a fine of 400-100 for each count.

(Spoiler alert: This article discusses the entirety of “The Cleaning Lady” Season 2, Episode 2, “Lolo and Lola.”)
Naveen Andrews, the Emmy-nominated “Lost” actor, was drawn to his character Robert Kamdar, a new malignant presence in “The Cleaning Lady” Season 2, because of his cunning intelligence. Presented as the crime show’s new baddie and Nadia’s (Eva De Dominici) ex, the calculated criminal is intent on fracturing her already crumbling relationship with husband Arman (Adan Canto) — and pretty much everything else.
“He does seem to operate without any kind of moral fiber and certainly has issues: He needs therapy of some kind,” Andrews told TheWrap in an interview. “But if there’s one redeeming factor, it’s his relationship with Nadia — for some reason she’s exempt from his rather dark worldview. And in spite of that, he still seems to insinuate himself into other people’s lives with a deleterious effect and enjoys it,...

It all started with a pitch I received about Theranos in late 2013. As a correspondent at ABC News, I was working on a series with Diane Sawyer about exploding medical costs, and we were looking for solutions for our viewers. Theranos was pitched to me as a company that was creating something that could save our viewers money on blood testing: a full range of tests completed from a single drop of blood. When I started looking into it, there was no one independent who could really corroborate for me what I was being told. It didn’t seem like a gigantic red flag at this point, but it was in the back of my mind.
Suddenly, I started to see Elizabeth Holmes blowing up on the cover of magazines, and that really piqued my interest. I pitched the story internally at ABC News,...

One of the biggest surprises on Emmy nominations morning showed up in the Best Limited/Movie Writing category when “Impeachment: American Crime Story” got nominated, a season that many pundits were clearly underestimating, as lead actress Sarah Paulson also nabbed a bid. This category is especially stunning in that half of these six shows are not nominated in the program category, despite most of them being predicted in this race. That said, as far as potential winners, the two nomination leaders, “The White Lotus” and “Dopesick,” will be battling it out to see who comes out on top.
Here are Gold Derby’s current Best Limited/Movie Writing Emmy 2022 racetrack odds:
“The White Lotus” (Mike White) – 10/3 odds
“Dopesick” (“The People vs. Purdue Pharma” by Danny Strong) — 4/1 odds
“Station Eleven” (“Unbroken Circle” by Patrick Somerville) — 5/1 odds

Best Limited/Movie Directing Emmy 2022: Mike White (‘The White Lotus’) vs. Danny Strong (‘Dopesick’)
At this year’s Emmys, the programs nominated for Best Limited/Movie Directing are similar to the corresponding writing category with “Impeachment: American Crime Story” being replaced by a second episode of “The Dropout.” Just like writing, this race is once again looking like a fight to see whether Mike White for “The White Lotus” can sustain the momentum after the season airing a year ago, or if Emmy favorite Danny Strong for “Dopesick” can steal his thunder.
Here are Gold Derby’s current Best Limited/Movie Directing Emmy 2022 racetrack odds:

Sunny Balwani, former president and chief operating officer of Theranos, was convicted on 12 counts of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud on Thursday, NBC News confirmed.
Balwani, who was Elizabeth Holmes's ex-boyfriend and former right-hand man, was one of the subjects of Hulu's recent "The Dropout" documentary series. Starring Amanda Seyfried, the series follows Holmes's journey to becoming the youngest self-made woman billionaire after she introduced revolutionary technology that could replace traditional blood tests through her company, Theranos. Only one problem: it all turned out to be one huge lie.
Details about Balwani's past are still pretty scarce, but we do know that he was previously married to Japanese artist Keiko Fujimoto. They divorced in 2002. As for his career, Balwani previously worked in software. He was a sales manager for Microsoft in Northern California before he eventually joined a start-up called CommerceBid in 1999.

Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes was still on trial for wire fraud when The Dropout showrunner Elizabeth Meriwether was finishing the final scripts for the Hulu limited series. “I had the idea of ending the series with Elizabeth at Burning Man with her new boyfriend,” Meriwether tells THR, but she notes that pulling off a shoot like that would have been too costly. “I was told I could either have music in the last few episodes or I could go to Burning Man. It’s tempting to imagine what WeWork co-founder Adam Neumann would say to Theranos fraudster Elizabeth Holmes, given their similar public falls from grace. But short of that, we at least had the chance to listen to a conversation between the two actors who played them in recent limited series. Upon sitting down, Jared Leto (Apple TV+’s “WeCrashed”) and Amanda Seyfried (Hulu’s “The Dropout”) reveal they both approached their characters as layered humans — not mustache-twirling villains. They also had to find their real-life inspirations’ distinct voices, which was no small feat.
Jared Leto: Thank you for being here. I’m glad I didn’t show up and you weren’t sitting here. That would’ve been awkward.
Amanda Seyfried: I thought about that as a joke. And then I thought that would be mean because you don’t know me at all. The thing that connects...

Elizabeth Holmes, the disgraced Silicon Valley entrepreneur once touted as the next Steve Jobs, will be portrayed in two upcoming fictionalized projects, one starring Jennifer Lawrence and the other with Kate McKinnon.
Lawrence’s big screen dramatization and McKinnon’s Hulu miniseries won’t be out for a while, but no waiting is required to see a nonfiction treatment of the Holmes story—The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley is available right now on HBO on demand. It’s in contention for multiple Emmy nominations.
Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney directed the documentary, about the Stanford University dropout who launched blood-testing company Theranos and became the youngest self-made female billionaire ever before the enterprise collapsed in a blizzard of fraud allegations. Gibney says he didn’t anticipate how much The Inventor would resonate with viewers.
