Kelly Clarkson returns as a coach on season 15 of “The Voice” this fall fresh from her win with Brynn Cartelli last spring. She is defending her title against veteran coaches Blake Shelton and Adam Levine — who have been with the show from the start — and another “American Idol” alumni, Jennifer Hudson.
Both women believe that their time on “Idol” makes them better mentors than Shelton and Levine. Clarkson won the first season of “American Idol” in 2002 while Hudson finished in seventh place two years later. She proved to be just as unlucky in her debut as a coach on “The Voice” last fall, missing out on a spot in the season 13 final.
That season was won by Chloe Kohanski, and marked the sixth victory for Shelton. This country music superstar has the best track record of the dozen coaches to date. His other winning artists were: Jermaine Paul (season 2), Cassadee Pope...

First time was the charm for Kelly Clarkson who coached Brynn Cartelli to victory on season 14 of “The Voice.” She will get a chance to defend her title this fall when she returns to the panel for season 15 of the hit NBC reality competition series. Going into Tuesday’s Season 14 finale of The Voice, the question seemed to be less “Who’s going to win?” and more “Was Kyla Jade or Brynn Cartelli going to win?” (Which was still more suspenseful than the ending of Season 13, since a victory by Team Blake’s Chloe Kohanski had been a foregone conclusion well ahead of the finish line.) Before Monday’s performances, I’d been pretty sure that Team Blake’s Kyla was a lock to take the title. She had the pipes, the charisma, the momentum. But then her original song had the same effect on me as Tylenol Pm,...

While Britton Buchanan has a slight lead in the race to win season 14 of “The Voice,” either Brynn Cartelli or Kyla Jade could still win on Tuesday. The other Top 4 artist, Spensha Baker, is out of the running according to viewers of Monday’s final. The results of our overnight poll have Buchanan ahead with 34% followed closely by Cartelli at 30% and Jade with 26% of the total tally as of this writing. Baker is way back in last with just 10% of the overall vote.
Buchanan is being coached by Alicia Keys, who won the second of her two previous stints as a mentor on this NBC reality competition series. Cartelli has rookie coach Kelly Clarkson in her corner while Jade and Baker are backed by Blake Shelton, who has won six of his previous 13 seasons on “The Voice.” The fourth coach, Adam Levine, is out of the running, having lost the...

Season 14 of “The Voice” heads into its final week with just four contestants still standing. Of the four coaches, only Blake Shelton has two artists in contention. Kelly Clarkson and Alicia Keys are down to one apiece with Brynn Cartelli and Britton Buchanan respectively. And the fourth coach, Adam Levine, is out of the running.

“Th-th-that’s all, folks,” Tuesday’s episode of The Voice told four contestants ahead of Monday’s performance finale. And as we approached the Results Show, the quartet that I predicted to advance — Kyla Jade, Britton Buchanan, Brynn Cartelli and Pryor Baird — was still looking pretty solid. The wild card in the mix seemed to be Kaleb Lee, who’d not only had a great night Monday, but as of 8 am Et Tuesday, was outselling Pryor on iTunes. I still didn’t think he’d ultimately be able to pull off an upset and swipe a spot in the finals from Pryor,...

Six of the eight artists still in the running on “The Voice” saw their performance on Monday’s show make the top 10 on iTunes as of noon on Tuesday. That means each will get the benefit of the vote multiplier. That should help them avoid being in the bottom two, who will be eliminated right away when Carson Daly reveals the results on the May 15 episode.
That dubious distinction is likely to go to Jackie Foster and Rayshun Lamarr. Neither of these artists saw their tracks do well in the overnight sales figures from iTunes. Lamarr, who has had to sing for survival for two of the past three weeks, only sold enough of his version of John Lennon‘s classic “Imagine” to make it to #36. Foster foundered with her cover of Whitesnake‘s “Here I Go Again,” moving only enough units to get to #48.

Ahead of Monday’s Season 14 Semi-Finals of The Voice, I was feeling pretty confident that I already knew which singers would be making up the Final Four: Team Blake’s Pryor Baird and Kyla Jade, Team Alicia’s Britton Buchanan and Team Kelly’s Brynn Cartelli. (If they really do go to the Finals, that isn’t half bad, given my historically spotty track record as a prognosticator; when I made my initial prediction a month ago, I picked three out of those four but had subbed in Jackie Foster for Pryor — a mistake, I now suspect.) So the question...

Get ready for a battle of “American Idol” alumni on this fall’s edition of “The Voice.” The NBC reality competition series confirmed that Jennifer Hudson, who finished in seventh on “Idol” back in 2004, will be returning to the panel for the 15th season of this Emmy winner. Ok, so it turned out that the biggest challenge for viewers during The Voice’s Challenge Week was not laughing at what in a number of cases passed for challenges. (“I’ve never sung a song that started with the letter M before” — yeah, it was basically like that.) Nonetheless, Monday’s performances were still overall very good, I thought. Your comments begged to differ, but that’s the beauty of music, isn’t it? Two people can hear the same thing two completely different ways. At least I think we all agreed that Kelly Clarkson served a dazzling reminder...

On Monday’s episode of “The Voice,” the Top 10 artists coached by Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton performed. The goal for each contestant was to make it into the top 10 on iTunes by Tuesday at noon Et so that they reaped the benefit of a vote multiplier.
We can report that four of the acts registered enough sales to earned this bonus: Kyla Jade with her show-stopper “This Is Me” by Keala Settle; Brynn Cartelli for her cover of the Coldplay hit “Fix You”; Britton Buchanan for his rendition of “What’s Love Got to Do with It” by Tina Turner; and Pryor Baird with his version of “My Town” by Montgomery Gentry.

“The Voice” is now down to just 10 artists in contention to win season 14. Two of the coaches — Alicia Keys and Blake Shelton — still have the same three artists that they brought into this phase of the competition. Each of the other two coaches — Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine — has lost one of their artists already. In advance of the Top 10 performing on May 7, we asked viewers of “The Voice” who they thought would win.
Only two of the Top 10 registered more than 20% support in our poll: Britton Buchanan of Team Alicia Keys with 25% and Pryor Baird from Team Blake Shelton at 24%. Not surprisingly, Baird and Buchanan saw their Top 10 songs ranked the highest on iTunes. Selling digital downloads can be a key part of success on this show. On Tuesday’s edition of “The Voice,” the bottom two vote getters among the Top 12 artists were D.R. King from Team Kelly Clarkson and Rayshun Lamarr of Team Adam Levine. Each had to sing one more song to try and win votes cast by viewers via Twitter. While Lamarr won the audience over, our readers were less enamored. By a margin of 53% to 47% they preferred the performance by King and wanted to see him win the Instant Save.
Perhaps the fact that King sang first hurt him in the public vote. Those watching the show live in the Eastern and Central time zones knew when to weigh in via Twitter. Fans of either artist in the rest of the country had to rely on social media if they wanted to back their favorite, albeit without having seen the performances.

Going into The Voice’s Top 12 Results Show Tuesday, it was looking grim for Rayshun Lamarr and D.R. King, the latter of whom hadn’t even garnered a whole percentage point in TVLine’s poll overnight.
