Tom Hanks is one of the most decorated and beloved actors of all time, and he's also a husband, grandfather, and father of four. The two-time Oscar winner has played everyone from Walt Disney ("Saving Mr. Banks") and Mister Rogers ("A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood") to war heroes ("Saving Private Ryan" and "Forrest Gump") and Woody the pull-string cowboy rag doll (the Toy Story franchise).
Tom had his oldest two children, Colin and Elizabeth Hanks, with his first wife, Samantha Lewes, whom he divorced in 1987 (she later died in 2002). He then married actor and singer Rita Wilson in 1988, and the two have two children, Chester "Chet" Hanks and Truman Hanks.
In 2020, Tom thanked his family in an emotional speech when he was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille award at the Golden Globes. "A man is blessed with a family sitting down front like that," he said. "A wife...

Tom Hanks turns 67-years-old today, and was saluted by his actor/singer wife Rita Wilson via Instagram.
“Happy Birthday to this man who is my lover, my best friend, my family, the father of my children,” Wilson wrote next to a photo of a pattern-clad Hanks.
Wilson went on: Hanks “loves a typewriter just slightly less than me,” and revealed his penchant for exotic drink concoctions. Hanks apparently “invents cocktails like Diet Cokecaine (Diet Coke mixed with Champagne) or a Cokearita (Diet Coke mixed with a margarita).”
Her post added that the “Forrest Gump” actor “is happiest being surround by his family and friends, and has committed to telling the stories of veterans and has created his own coffee brand supporting veterans, @givehanx Hanx for our Troops.
“He is one of the smartest people I know, has made me laugh everyday for 38 years, can nap anywhere at anytime. Happy happy birthday my love!

Tom Hanks kicked off his 67th birthday with a sweet (and funny) tribute from his wife, Rita Wilson. On July 9, Wilson shared a photo of Hanks wearing a tropical shirt that almost matches the curtain behind him on Instagram. She captioned this peak dad pic with a heartfelt message about how much her husband means to her, and how much typewriters mean to him.
"Happy Birthday to this man who is my lover, my best friend, my family, the father of my children," Wilson wrote. Tom Hanks doesn't like all of his movies; in fact, he admittedly hates some of them. In a discussion with The New Yorker, published on May 28, the Oscar winner got honest about filmmaking and how sometimes movies that have the potential to turn out good end up being total flops.
"Ok, let's admit this: We all have seen movies that we hate," Hanks said. "I have been in some movies that I hate. You have seen some of my movies and you hate them." He then laid out five "points of the Rubicon" that all moviemakers pass through when creating and releasing a project that indicate how it'll be received.
"The first Rubicon you cross is saying yes to the film," he explained. "Your fate is sealed. You are going to be in that movie. The second Rubicon is when you actually see the movie that you made. It either...

A Man Called Otto is a movie directed by Marc Forster starring Tom Hanks.
A remake whose only appeal lies in seeing Tom Hanks handle the role of a grouch… to reconvert the character to his own kind, sensitive and simple style.
One of its charms: we get to see Tom Hanks’ son, Truman Hanks, play Otto as a young man.
Storyline
Otto is one of those neighbors no one wants to have: grumpy, picky, gossipy and bitter. A new family moves into a nearby house, which will cause Otto’s life, about to end, to change forever.
Movie Review
A Man Called Otto is one of those easy, simplistic, crowd-pleasing movies that give “good vibes” everywhere and that, in essence and without satisfying almost anyone, leave a feeling that the world can still be a nice place full of nice people with a charming neighborhood.

A Man Called Otto is a ‘large hearted’ romantic-comedy-drama story directed by Marc Forster from a screenplay by David Magee. It is the 2nd film adaptation of the 2012 novel ‘A Man Called Ove’ by Fredrik Backman after the 2015 Swedish film of the same name. The film stars Tom Hanks as Anderson Otto, with Mariana Treviño, Rachel Keller, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo in key characters.
Story
Otto Anderson (Tom Hanks), is an old eccentric widower. Why eccentric? After retiring from a steel company, he plans suicide for having lost his wife Sonya, a schoolteacher, six months back. Otto had met Sonya on a train after returning a dropped book to her.
In the opening scene that sets the tone of Otto Anderson (Tom Hanks)’s character, he is shown intending to buy a specific measurement of rope at a hardware store, only to learn that the store’s pricing policies won’t...

Tom Hanks is one of the greatest actors of his generation. When he retires, he will leave a lasting legacy of some of the most successful movies, including Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, and the Toy Story franchise.
But the Hanks legacy won’t end when he stops acting because his offspring is also getting into the industry, beginning with oldest son Colin’s debut in 1996’s That Thing You Do. Truman, Hanks’ youngest son, is also now getting into acting. His first shot on film was not easy to create.

Tom Hanks has worked his high-wattage, regular-guy-hero amiability for so long that he was bound to experiment with a year like 2022 eventually. In the summer, he gave us an oily, flesh-packed Colonel Tom Parker with that strange barbed-wire accent in “Elvis,” then he took on Geppetto in the year’s other, forgettable “Pinocchio,” and now he’s been fitted for grumpypants, frown lines, and a self-made noose as a suicidal sourpuss in “A Man Called Otto.”
But we know Hanks by now, and what kind of curmudgeon he’d want to play, which means you don’t have to be familiar with the source material of “Otto” to guess within the first few minutes — when he’s being obnoxious to a perfectly kind hardware store cashier, but in that isn’t-it-cute-how-mean-he-is way — that this is one of those movies typically described in terms of “surrendering” to “charms,” and “winning you over.

Is Tom Hanks ever going to retire?
At 66, the actor has appeared in almost 80 feature films during his four-decade tenure in Hollywood. At the New York premiere of his newest film, “A Man Called Otto,” Hanks cast doubt on the prospect of retirement.
“No, I don’t have any desire [to retire],” Hanks told Variety on Monday night. “I’m not working for the sake of working. I’m in a very lucky position. It’s got to be fabulous. Rita and I talk about it all the time, which is there’s only two reasons go to work: It’ll be good or it’ll be fun. And if it’s neither one of those, I’ll stay home until the cows come on. I don’t need to do anything.”
The circumstances were much different for Otto, the character Hanks plays in the reboot of the Swedish film “A Man Called Ove.

Tom Hanks can currently be seen in the new film “A Man Called Otto”, in which one of his co-stars is his own son, Truman Hanks, playing a younger version of Hanks’ titular Otto.
During an interview with The Sun, Hanks waded into the recent “nepo baby” debate by defending his son’s casting.
“Look, this is a family business,” said Hanks in the interview.

“If we were a plumbing supply business or if we ran the florist shop down the street, the whole family would be putting in time at some point, even if it was just inventory at the end of the year,” Hanks explained.

Tom Hanks is the latest star to weigh in on Hollywood's nepotism debate, and the 66-year-old two-time Oscar winner is defending his family of celebrities. Tom stars in "A Man Called Otto," which was released in theaters on Dec. 30 and also stars his youngest son, Truman Hanks. In a recent interview with Reuters about the film, which Tom coproduced, the actor responded to critiques of his son's casting in the movie, rejecting backlash about tapping one of his own to participate in it.
"We have to do the work in order to make that a true and authentic experience for the audience, and that's a much bigger task than worrying about whether anybody's going to try to scathe us or not."
"Look, this is a family business," Tom said of his four kids: Colin, 45; Elizabeth Ann, 40 - both whom he shares with his first wife, Samantha Lewes - Chet, 32; and Truman,...

Chicago – Tom Hanks finds himself – as the title character – stranded in a slough of artificiality in this clumsy manipulative attempt at a crowd pleaser. He plays a grump in “A Man Named Otto,” a remake of a 2015 Swedish film. The setting has been transferred to the grey rust belt of Pittsburgh, and Hanks is a widower with a lot of chips on his shoulder about the world today.

Otto sees himself surrounded by idiots. He also has both the obstinance and time to complain, whether its cars driving around his housing complex’s gate, or being charged for six feet of an item when he only wanted five feet. When you have an international best seller that was on the Nyt list for 42 weeks and then made into a multi-Oscar-nominated Swedish film that became the third-most successful in the history of that country Ingmar Bergman called home, you might wonder what the need was for an English-language American remake. The answer is a chance to give Tom Hanks a role he can run with and, more important, to bring a very human, often funny, character-driven story back to light in a time that needs it more than ever.

Despite recent reports to the contrary, Tom Hanks will always be known as the nicest guy in Hollywood. But is Tom Hanks such a “nice guy” that he can only play against type in the most obvious, literal way? A murderous villain is too far a stretch; a double-crossing commander is perhaps not juicy enough. No, when Tom Hanks wants to really throw a sour wrench onto his all-American good-guy bread and butter, he has to play a grumpy old man. Not just any grumpy old man: an embittered, persnickety, widower with a secret heart of gold. The question isn’t whether he pulls it off well enough, but if he should have tried in the first place.

In “A Man Called Otto,” Tom Hanks plays one of those misanthropic over-the-hill loners who never misses a chance to vent his spleen. Giving a hard time to everyone is what gets him through the day; you might call it his hobby. From Scrooge in “A Christmas Carol” to Alan Arkin in “Little Miss Sunshine,” we’ve seen this sort of get-off-my-lawn curmudgeon many times before. But with the right actor and the right script, it’s a formula for yocks (and for gently rediscovered humanity) that audiences never get tired of — and Hanks, make no mistake, is the right actor for this role. For years, when he was America’s top movie star, Hanks was routinely described as our own James Stewart, the soul of guy-next-door decency, but going back to his earliest performances in films like “Bachelor Party” Hanks has always had an edge to him. That’s...

‘A Man Called Otto’ Review: Tom Hanks in a Predictable but Touching Portrait of Grief and Resilience
Click here to read the full article.
The poster for A Man Called Otto invites us to “fall in love with the grumpiest man in America.” But really, was there any doubt, considering that he’s played by Tom Hanks? The inevitable transformation of the title character from ill-tempered sourpuss to lovable softy wouldn’t generate much suspense anyway, since the film is a remake of the hit 2015 Swedish film A Man Called Ove, adapted from the best-selling novel by Fredrik Backman. Add to that the fact that you have the modern-day inheritor of Jimmy Stewart’s mantle playing the lead, and you can pretty much predict the film’s every beat.
But that doesn’t it make any less enjoyable or moving, thanks to its reliably effective redemption arc, narrative structure and Hanks’ enduring appeal. Unlike the Swedish film’s lead actor, Rolf Lassgard, who was genuinely intimidating in his curmudgeonliness,...

Sf Studios, the 104-year old Nordic giant, has crashed into the awards season with Tom Hanks’ “A Man Called Otto,” which it produced with Playtone and fully financed.
